If Arsenal succeeds to sign Mikel Merino, then they only need to focus on signing a new striker. This will be the last focus on Arsenal current transfer goal, they are rumored to sign Viktor Gyokeres. The latest news about this player, I heard that Arsenal successfully reached the agreement with Viktor Gyokeres. If this news is valid, it means Viktor Gyokeres will follow Mikel Merino joining Arsenal. There will be 2 new players for Arsenal in the near future.
This is every arsenal supporter's sincere wish that this transfer would succeed because the gunners desperately needs a striker who can assure them more than 15 plus goals in a season for them to be able to compete with Manchester City that have Erling Haaland who is a goal machine. Gyokores looks like that kind of player, but he will need to be able to settle into the premier league as he has never played before in it, and it can be a new experience for the striker than the conditions he is used to in Sporting CP, that helped for it to be possible that he scored more than 30 goals last season.
In as much as I want Arteta to buy a prolific striker in front of goal to help them challenge for the title this season, I feel that Arteta is not yet sure if he needs one. I mean this Arsenal team scored 91 goals last season, without a world class striker. It doesn’t seem like a striker is needed for him to perfect his game play.
He trusts Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus to lead the front line. He’s strengthen the defense and midfield. He prioritizes these positions than the attack. A winger is even needed, to give much resting time to Bukayo Saka who has very very active playing in all competitions lately. Left for me, he won’t feature in the first 4 games of the season, as per he needs recovery.
Gyokeres has been on Arsenal radar for a while now. Sporting CP's asking price will also be a big issue for Arsenal in case they want to go for him. I also heard he has a reoccurring knee injury.
One thing I know Arsenal for, is their seriousness about their targets. I am manly sure they’re going to signing Gyorekes this summer.
