Ok, so if we are to believe the hype, the Chinese are dumping like crazy, and also many other weak hands.  So question is, who is buying this up?  Surely the smart money has held on till around the $3000 level before jumping in.  So who/why is anyone actually buying over the last few days?

That would be a buyer with dreams of getting rich, and this time it's for real. These are the actual smart investors who only come out of their hives when they see the drop in the prices for bitcoin or even the altcoins too. They are always thankful to such out of the way behaviour for bitcoin price. The weak hands which you see are nothing but the short investors who are just scrap and nothing else. They fear a lot because they think they are loosing he money. But there acts actually make them loose the whole money. So answer to your question takes us to those buyers who are smart investors and big fish too.

Of course it is, your coins aren't just disappear at all, they just transfer from this guy to other guy. In your case, when you're selling, there is one guy in the market has the purpose to purchase your coins, So the bitcoin is yours and your altcoins are becoming his coins. So choose the right time to buy or sell will make you become the smart trader.

When a coin is dumping there is usually someone who will buy the coins and most of them are whales. And that's usually what happens in the world of trading, someone buys them and someone sells them.

That my friends is one of the most basic principles of economics. Something loses its value if there is a lot of supply and it increases value if there is a little of it. If you are selling something that has some value, there will always be a buyer on all levels. There are the low ballers, the hard bargainers and the fools. This will never change. It is what it is.
Definitely, in every seller there must a buyer. It is the usuall activity buying and selling like in btc. Yes it is what it is the usuall happens in daily market. Those who buy most of btc and believe the price will rise so the most reasons in every buyer is to gain profit.

Sadly, this holds true in business. Haven't you heard this expression, "one man's meat is another's poison. This makes the market cleans itself up. Someone must see a reason to buy where another senses doom. Such is a life principle. But to say the truth, the Chinese didn't dump that hard. China will surely regret its action in years to come.

Talking about the dumping and who is buying, is like the popular saying that "what another man hates, another man likes- yes people must show up to buy. Living the life itself is a risk so people risk it to the fullest. Also, I do believe that China took the best of decision for themselves especially with countries starting to adopt it.

Dude you are telling the most obvious things. Like noone would even think that because it's such a common thing. Well just to answer the question you asked at the end . People are buying btc because they are expecting that the prices will increase after the Segwit2x .

If the price is dropping, then there are fewer buyers than sellers. There are some people buying if orders are going through so they must think the price is worth it. It's hard to know everyone's motivation at any particular moment, but they obviously feel like the price is good enough to buy if they are putting in a buy order.

I prefer to wait before buying any more to see if the price will drop to $3000 or less but others are buying now. This also means that there are sellers now as well.
The selling and the buying of bitcoin depends entirely upon the price of the bitcoin, if the market value of the bitcoin is dropping then it is definitely a time to buy more and are of the bitcoin because it is  definite that the prices would rise again which would earn you a profit at your end. Many of the people just as you keep on waiting for the prices to fall below expected values so that they could collect more bitcoin.

This is sometimes wrong to buy when the price is going down. We can't find the real dip, exact dip and that's why you could have bought from an expensive price even if it looked cheap to you at that time.

for some that reach the price that they expect or lower than that this could be the time that now they will collect it because they know matter what happen if they know that it will rise again no matter how much dump will happen.
You have to remember the base price you bought Bitcoin will decide your profitability in future. If you do not buy Bitcoin with a cheap price, although the price of Bitcoin can increases, but it does not help you make a good profits or maybe less than the amount of money you had invested.

You are very much right. Yes, there is no doubt that most of us keep on waiting for the prices to come down but still there are so many who keep on buying the Bitcoins no matter what the market price is. Everyone has his own way of interpreting the things and this is what they do exactly. They can manage to earn a good amount of profit even by buying Bitcoins at higher rates.

The answer is very simple . when  a rumor is published or some bad news are published then all are try to sell their project because they know price will be down sure .so they try to sold their coin quickly and wait for most dump. then they buy again these coin at lower price. And most of the big investor waiting for this situation and dumping price .when this situation is come then big investor buy the coin at cheap price . and sold at higher . so this rumor is bad for one person but it is a opportunity for another person who are waiting for price fall.

Based on what you have said, most times there are invisible hands in the system that is causing stability and never allowed the market to suffer any setback either for the benefit of the market of for their own selfish interest.

In the case of the Chinese dumping, for example, ViaBTC came out and said they have enough liquidity to cater for domestic withdrawal which means they have the funds to buy and mop up the excess that could arise from such without the gloat affecting the general market structure. Also, by that, they could be causing artificial scarcity because the ones they are buying are not released into the market immediately.

This is not surprising as its the same thing what is happening by the Central Bank in other to keep the economy in other and ensure that the gap between supply and demand is kept to the barest minimum.

As bitcoin popularity grows there are more and more new, unexperienced users who don't knw much abit the bitcoin market and trends so tey often behave very impulsive and in panic, especialy in the time of price dump. So there are many sellers on the market even if they don't suppose to be. But that is just the good opportunity for those who want to buy cheaper coins.

Of course for every completed order there is a buyer and a seller and I think with regard to your example it will mostly have been people who didn't really understand why the market was crashing and were buying simply because they'd seen the price at 5k not too long ago.

This is how the system works and we should have this at the back of our minds that if price is going up it means amount that people are ready to buy bitcoin and others coins is high than amount people are ready to sell them and vice versa. For every buying they are always a seller and the cycle continues like that.
