a burn address is an obvious address thats set up with such a lengthy address that there is no way anyone created it via vanity or private key

EG
a burn address would look like
1Burn1nhellmofothereaintanykey

here is a couple real examples
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1CounterpartyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUWLpVr
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1111111111111111111114olvt2

what i think the OP is doing is making a normal address and trying to cal it a burn address thinking people will throw coins into HIS address.
A big thanks for the information. Then the OP is misleading. I have a question, what differs between normal address and burned address in terms of transaction? Is it easy for the burn to process such thing or is it like normal address?

I have many burn addresses but not by choice.   Nothing worse then forgetting the private keys to a Bitcoin wallet!
One day I really think there will be a true way for some people to recover the missing funds they once had.

He wants to prove that the address is indeed burn address? Yahoo!!

If OP think someone will send something to such address then it must be stupid to expect as its pointless. But maybe he just want to let us know he now is knowledgeable about it and proud about it. Well good. Okay so ye maybe.

I am still not clear.
Burn address do have private key, but user put it random and did not wished it to know it or even if user wishes user cannot know the private key if he is following the process of creating burn address (if any).

I am yet to understand what this post is all about. You have found a burn vanity lost address why making up a poll for the forum. Honestly the post is quite redundant

He just want to share it and then ask people here whether he should prove that he owned that address or not. Obviously, if he controls that address, it's no longer a burn address.

Congrat if I may say that. I don’t really know if there is any essence of this as the wallet is empty and moreso burn wallets are used as store for different coins mostly to reduce the supply. So why the so much joy for finding it. I would appreciate you say more on this than posting proof of the wallet being yours.

Burning your bitcoins can reduce the overall supply, so it can increase the scarcity, and therefore it can increase Bitcoin price (in theory).

Well, someone have to ask this newb question:
What is so special in this address and how can I figure out that it is a burn address?
What are those burn addresses are used for? And why da fuck you are so proud of owning one of them?
Burn addresses are wallets that no one controls. They are used to lessen the supply in the circulation when people sends bitcoin or any relative coin to that address. It means that coins on that burned address are lost forever.

No one is owning them so theres no sense if someone boasts of telling the people that they own one.

Why would people even send coins to a burn address?

Some people simply just want to watch the world born Either because they're no longer sane or last resort if one can't protect his bitcoin.

there's even a website which let you make burn address, in case you want to try to make your own burn address : https://gobittest.appspot.com/ProofOfBurn

If you got error message like "Invalid character in input", don't forget bitcoin address uses Base58 (123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz), so you can't use 0 (zero), O, I (big i), & l (small L)

How do people create a burn address without a vanity? IF what you're saying is no way to create it via vanity, then how is it created? Surely the coincidence  would be too high to create something like 1111111111111111111114olvt2.

I always thought burn addresses were just simple address to forever dump coins people can never use. Looks like I need to brush up my education.

you have to first understand what a bitcoin address is to understand how it works. in short a bitcoin address is a base58 encoding of 20 bytes with 1 initial byte for version and 4 last bytes for its checksum.
we know the first one (version byte) and we can choose any 20 bytes that we want. with simple encoding you can come up with different variations (like all 1s, or even meaningful sentences) then you just have to calculate the last 4 checksum bytes (which is a hash) which is why the address looks like that (all 1s with different last 6-7 letters).
(this whole thing takes a fraction of a second by the way!)

now you just have to write some words like "BitcoinEaterDontSendBitcoin" conver it to byte array, add the missing bytes to make it 20, calculate checksum and you have a burn address.

that 20 bytes is the result of RIPEMD160 of SHA256 of public key. since this operation is irreversible you can not find the public key or the private key of such addresses hence any coins sent to them is considered "burnt".
why? google proof of burn.
Well explained. Thanks for throwing out some knowledge. Sometimes we forget the basics when we deal with regular issues.
Enjoy some Bitcoin Discussion merits 🙂

Why would people even send coins to a burn address?  Is it just a show off thing that they have money to burn while others are struggling to make anything.  The only positive thing is that it lowers the total bitcoin supply and raises the price even if the effect is minimal.

I too have the same questions on why would, people send their coins to be destroyed and can not be used again, I think you have lost your mind for sending your well spend coin just to be destroyed, but I guess burned coins are still part of circulation that it still exists but cannot be spent I am thinking that if a particular unexpected something happens that all non-burn coins would be exchanged for other coins or fiat money I think that burned coins would sure be there to ensure that bitcoin would still have value this is the only thing I can think a possibility why burn address exists,

I think there is so much burn address out there and there is Litecoin address as well that their address starts with L.

It's not to brag their wealth. It's an attempt to make something valuable. The first burning address linked by franky1 is actually an altcoin(ann thread).

Burning some of our coins slightly helps but the demand mainly controls the price.

I think burn address is an address which have no access of it's private key. I mean no one has it's private key. Have a read here:

Quote
Likewise any bitcoin sent to a “burn” address are also forever unspendable. A bitcoin burn address is like an impossible vanity address. There is no private key to a burn address and one would be impossible to generate.

You don't need to prove to anything since there is nothing left in the wallet Grin
The previous owner will fine if you want to use that wallet.
But if you still want to prove it here, so I think you can sign in and paste here.
If you don't want to use that wallet, you can create another wallet Grin
