ah, first user appeared. i just give 1 board to xiangfu @ beijing by personal.

That's nice, but I would like to play also with Christmas, why don't you ship the orders that are paid for ?

Based on the OP, (sorry I haven't re-read the whole thread recently), each FPGA has to dissipate less than 10W.
Are fans really necessary?
It seems that a pair of small passive heat sinks should do just fine.
Reducing both cost and total power consumption (admittedly minimally) and more importantly the noise level.

This is really a question, but there are some necessary reasons.

XC6SLX150 's FGG484 package has a very high thermal resistance, the cooling system must keep the chip surface at a very low temp.
so, a heatsink and a small fan is really needed.

i also tried a larger heatsink without fan, but result is not very good. this function limit the power below approx. 5W.

The idea seems good, another good option would be to use a large passive heat sink for the two chips at once, as do the Intel Atom not need ventilators.

i have not do any speed test between the 2 fpgas, but the signals are routed as diff-pairs, so the speed "i think" may easily reach 800M + . and i will test them when  i have some free time. you know the whole things are all handled by myself... only 1 person. and there is only 1 another person help me @ software. i'm really really very sorry for a lack of fully performance testing.
Please take your time. I'm not in a hurry. For now I'm playing with LX9 from Avnet doing really simple things to understand the limitations of the current technology.

I also noticed the words "bridal tour" in your edited first message of this thread. If you were just married then congratulations! and really take your time!

yeah, just married and take a week in Hongkong , i never go so far, i love that place and especially the Disneyland is so fantastic  even i'm already not a boy.  Grin
