wow the foundation has so far received more than 5000 BTC in donation, in just 2 months. What will the money be used for?

Paying off a congressman.

Which one?

agreed.  the fact that he donated 500 BTC means he personally owns thousands and is not likely to sell them.

It's great that Fred's publicly supporting the foundation. For one thing, it means Fred likely holds a decent amount of BTC himself.

He didn't publicly Support the foundation, cause he never tweeted, or blog posted about it. How do we even know if that was suppose to be anonymous donation, and they outed him. I really think Fred Wilson should write a blog post. Also how do you know he holds any bitcoins, remember bitinstant is part of the foundation how do we know he just brought 500btcs and instantly gave them to the foundation, and bitinstant waived the fee.

It's great that Fred's publicly supporting the foundation. For one thing, it means Fred likely holds a decent amount of BTC himself.

Remember, that Fred makes his startup investments under the umbrella of Union Square Ventures, and he's not the only partner. From what I understand, if the USV partners are not unanimous on an investment, they don't make it. So it's possible that while Fred might be interested in investing in more companies in the bitcoin space, his partners may not yet be on board.

I outlived my lifetime membership:)
Fred Wilson, is a huge VC. I would like to see a post confirming that he did it and a little insight as to why. Also they say 5 companies got the business membership. Is these 5 companies including Mt. Gox and Bitinstant or excluding them?

Honestly I wish Fred Wilson would directly invest in more Bitcoins companies, if he just handing out 500 BTCs to the foundation, I don't think they deserve that funding, when they have done nothing this far, and the community has brought bitcoins to where it is.
500 Btc isn't that much money compared to a programmers yearly  salary...

Good news. Y-Combinator, Union Square Ventures...
But this 500 BTC seem more like to be a private donation, not a official Union Square Ventures investment. What ever, that's good news.

Uh, The Bitcoin Foundation has done nothing? Guess you don't recall that Bitcoin Foundation funding goes in part to finance programmers' work on the Bitcoin client?

Fred Wilson is a big-time tech-focused venture capitalist who founded Union Square Ventures. USV has been involved with investing early in companies such as Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, 10gen, Codecademy, and Zynga.

He's definitely one of the highest-profile investors in the Bitcoin space.

you guys,  I don't want to be a dick and post a link to LMGTFY but Fred Wilson is a BTC friendly venture capitalist.  A venture capitalist is someone who invents money in start ups.

"One of the first outspeakers, Fred Wilson, a prominent venture capital figure, noted bitcoin as the next big thing on the internet, according to a wildly popular Wired.com article, illustrating the rise and so called article-publication-time fall of Bitcoin itself."

TECH Venure Capitolists are closely watched by the media so Fred Wilson action's mean:
1.  He believe's a bitcoin buisness will eventualy make him money.
2.  He will bring more main stream media attention to the bitcoin economy.

These are other names you should know.

"Paul Graham is currently the third major technology investor to show support for Bitcoin. The first was Fred Wilson of Union Square Ventures, and the second major investor was Tim Draper."

Hope that helps.
