Isn't it better to stick to one currency? I know competition is good but having this litecoin that's easier to create doesn't sound like a good idea.

The market should (eventually) sort out the differences in pricing. Of course with variable difficulty in both types, there's really no fixed ratio of litecoins to bitcoins.

One possible advantage of having multiple currencies is that it becomes harder for malicious players in the finance world (Wall St banksters and so on) to destroy these currencies. If there's no ready alternative to Bitcoin, "someone" could spend a few million dollars creating an array of custom asics to perpetrate a severe attack.

Some people worry about 51% attacks and double spending. They need to learn to think like a criminal. How about getting free money from the US Fed, investing in a massive mining rig and accumulating millions of coins, then holding the bitcoin economy to ransom by stuffing up the inflation rate? Instead of a stable market, they make it ridiculously volatile by constantly dumping large numbers of coins and then buying them back randomly, so that the "little people" lose faith in bitcoin.

What is the solution to all this? Embrace multiple currencies! As long as the general idea and "value system" is compatible, they should be easy to exchange. This makes it more difficult for any dominant player to destroy the market with optimised hardware.

Hmm interesting. So Lightcoin uses the CPU to mine instead of the GPU? When it comes to bitcoins, the GPU is on magnitudes faster, so is there any way to get the GPU to mine lightcoins as well? What about using nvidia cards?

So how do I get a free lightcoin?  Grin
It was CPU only at first, but now it is also able to be mined with a GPU, many times faster than a CPU. Look for more information in the Alt currency forum.

Thanks.  Cool  Funny, first place I ever went to get Bitcoins was the Bitcoin Faucet, yet I never even thought of going to the Litecoin one until now.  Grin
