Just checked in after a few weeks "in the wilderness" due to moving from one end of the country to the other... and then a govt enforced coronavirus lockdown... and was like "shit! I hope I wasn't the guy holding it up!".

Thankfully... I was not! Tongue

So, it seems slot #2 gets a second chance at claiming his/her prize, a 24 hour window to follow the procedure listed the first time a winner was drawn.

So...after the ban was lifted...any news about the winner? Or, did the prize go to your daughter? Smiley

Pls don't understand me wrong, but this try of yours may lead the way in the future raffles. Maybe you should consider writing your above mentioned thoughts also in theymos' OP for this procedure? I think it's a great idea, but maybe your words will convince others as well?!

Well... Because of the problems i had, the final raffle was delayed for a week... But sure, i'll hold it one last time. However, this time i won't disclose if the raffle winner has claimed his/her price.  It's the final time i re-run the raffle, so there is no need to publicly declare if the winner stepped up or not. If there is a winner, i hope he/she creates a new, anonymous, account and posts a picture of his/her keychain after he/she receives it... But that's completely up to him/her.

If i have time, and if there's any demand, i wouldn't mind writing down my experiences in Theymos's original thread. He made a nice system that adds a big layer of privacy, and my experience would help other's wanting to benefit from my experience, but if there's no demand, i probably won't bother (but if there IS demand, i wouldn't mind doing a writeup) Smiley

So...  Let's roll one final time:
We're currently @ block #623 591
Let's roll with block number #623 593

I was thinking the same: more privacy but also more difficult to organize... But I wanted to hear your words as you were (are) the organizer and you know the situation better than anyone...

So it should be done by raffles with more valuable prizes, but it's up to the organizer to try this approach.

I hope to see more such raffles in the future, at least trying to do what you did here.

Loool! I think we can agree the situation is hilarious but also frustrating. Let's see what happens next week then Smiley Will #2 and #5 be excluded from the next try?

However, I'm curious about some conclusions after you'll draw the line. Such as - how did things go from your perspective while trying to follow the new procedure? Although there was lack of interest, the organization itself is easy / difficult? Is it recommendable for others? Can your measures really offer extra-privacy? Should them be followed (the part with 10min mail and signing a message from a BTC address)? And so on. Maybe sharing some thoughts from your perspective can help other users which will organize such raffles.

Well, it's rather hard to exclude numbers, the last digit of the hash of the blockheader is going to be completely random, and it was hard enough as it is to fill the current roster... But i have an 11 year old daughter, if #2 or #5 are hit, i'll give her a bitcoin keychain and post the pictures in this thread when she receives it Smiley

My remarks about this form of giveaway:
  • It guarantees a LOT more anonimity... I have no idear which useraccounts are participating, execpt a few that did send me a PM afterwards, or used an already used btc address to include with their ticket
  • The organisation is a lot more difficult... You have to generate a draw, verify tickets, create hashes, keep a sheet with codes/btc_addresses/slotnumbers, generate a raffle email, check the email,...
  • I think this kind of raffle is better suited for a paying raffle, there will be more interest for this and people won't forget to check their tickets if they payed actual money for their ticket
  • I'm pretty sure there were cheaters that participated with alt accounts... I received 2 pairs of emails (so 4 in total), each pair using the same template (same email provider, different address => same sex => same region for the name => same wording => same sentences => same type of address => ...). Next time i'll also ask for a hash of their firstname_lastname, no capital letters, no initials, just first and last name hashed. That way it's a little harder to cheat: if the first name and last name do not match, the price is denied... This is not unbeatable tough, nothing is stopping the cheater from using their spouse's name, or misspell their name a couple of times...

The winner has untill monday 16th of march to contact me with the same conditions as the previous draw.

So... did the new winner show up? Or shall we assist to a new election? Smiley

No, no winner showed up... But to be honest, i'm not planning to keep repeating this draw until finally someone claims their price. It's just a keychain worth a couple bucks, it's not worth the time I put in...

I'll think about organizing it one more time next week, but if the winner doesn't show up once again I'm calling this a failure and lock the thread.

Yes, the winner was drawn 11 days ago, and since he didn't reply a new winner was drawn exactly one post above yours...

But that's not the reason you get this error message... Directly from the OP:

Oh I finally understood.

So in this case, if a new winner will be elected, he should have kept his code, he should know its hash and he has to sign from the BTC address already emailed. But you don't have the email anymore.

Maybe reorganize the email part again? This could be a solution... I guess.

Yep, that's correct, but i won't reorganize the email part tough... Not keeping track of the email addresses was intentional. I wanted this giveaway to be as anonyous as humanly possible, so i only kept the info that could never be used to identify an individual (like an unused address or a piece of code).

The winner of the last draw has failed to contact me in a timely matter, so i'll now do a re-draw... Let's use block #621450 (we're at 621447 right now).
The winner has untill monday 16th of march to contact me with the same conditions as the previous draw.

Good luck everybody!

Then would you consider to pick a new winner in the following days, in case the first winner still doesn't show up?

Besides, there isn't needed the email, at least that's what I understood. The winner was supposed only to sign a message from the BTC addeess mentioned in the email. Did I understand wrong?

No, you got it correct, the only thing is: without email addresses or bitcointalk usernames, I have no way to identify the winner... If the winner doesn't check his/her ticket and/or doesn't come foreward, I have no way of contacting him/her.

Sure, I'll organize a redraw on Friday, the previous winner has had sufficient time to contact me.

Hey mocacinno, any news in the giveaway? Did the winner send the proof? Was the prize delivered?

I'm curious how things went. Maybe others will implement this feature too, if they see that your attempt worked smooth.

Nope, he\she never contacted me, and since most applications came from throwaway addresses, I didn't keep any of them, just a list of codes and btc addresses... I do still check my mail every couple of days just in case the winner pops up Smiley

Welcome back from the holiday Smiley

I thought maybe people sent you already the application(s), but as you were in a holiday, we would see the last slot filled today.

But seeing the slot is still not filled is weird. Maybe users waited for your return? Or maybe only 15 users out over over 2 millions are interested in the keychain? Smiley In this case you could also proceed only with 15 applicants.

Thanks!

Nope, my mail is completely empty....   Undecided
I'd rather have all slots filled, as to avoid any discussion in case the unfilled slot gets the price... However, if the slot isn't filled by this evening, i might consider just letting the raffle run, no need to keep waiting

1 slot left - It astounds me that i can't fill 16 slots for a free giveaway  Tongue

I'll be on holliday starting the end of today's business day, untill the first of march (10 days)... So if the giveaway draw isn't happening in the next ~5-ish hours, it'll have to wait untill the 2nd of march.

Apparently, not many got involved as the method requires a few amount of time though, not just "I'm in!": obtain the code, find a 10 minutes mail provider offering the "Compose" option (as not all offer that), and maybe the most difficult part - to find out how to calculate the hash of their code. Unfortunately, I think that many didn't understand the improved privacy of this method and only saw it as being too difficult. I hope though it will be used more in the future.

Indeed it is frustrating that only 1 spot remained uncovered, but the waiting time almost passed Smiley

What I didn't understand though is the prize itself. What is a "dropshipped keychain"?

I would love to join and test the new feature, but unfortunately I'm 82 Merits short from full member!

is there a special reason for this rather strict criteria?

Not really, the main reason for this giveaway was to test out Theymos's new feature (Private Giveaway), so i needed some parameters in order to test the system... Minimum rank was one of those parameters, but i randomly picked a rank to be honest... I didn't really think about which rank to pick, and just randomly picked one.

Because i'm giving it away for free, so i don't want any extra hassle, nor do i want to overpay... I have a provider in china i've used before for myself, i trust them, their prices are good, they accept my payment methods.

How do they know who are the winner if they don't know what their sha256 hash is  Huh
They have the giveaway code, if they create a sha256 hash of the code they have at hand, they know their slot number, so they'll know if they won.

On linux, it's basically:
Code:
echo -n giveawaycode | sha256sum

On windows i have no idear, but you can use one of the many online tools to calculate a sha256 hash, like https://emn178.github.io/online-tools/sha256.html

Here is a small tutorial posted by nullius a while ago. I hope it helps everybody.
The SHA-256 hash (same as used in Bitcoin) will positively identify the file, without revealing its contents.  If the script then were to be later revealed by any means, either publicly or to a private auditor, it could be affirmatively verified whether or not it is the same script as you now have in your possession.  Changing even one byte—even one bit of the file would change the hash value.

An example of what a SHA-256 hash may look like (here represented in hex):

Code:
e3b0c44298fc1c149afbf4c8996fb92427ae41e4649b934ca495991b7852b855

By posting a hash, you would be making a cryptographic commitment.  As long as you can produce a file exactly matching whatever hash you post, nobody could later accuse you of changing the script, or substituting a different script.  —  And yet, you would not be revealing the script.

Thus, my suggestion that you post a hash.  scam_detector has called on you to reveal the script itself.  I have suggested that it would be wiser to have your commitment to the identity of the script, and then discuss what should be done about the actual script.

Assuming that the file is named “alia_script” (substitute the appropriate name), on Linux:

Code:
sha256sum alia_script

On Windows (not sure which versions):

Code:
certUtil -hashfile alia_script SHA256

On Mac:  Don’t know.  On FreeBSD, it would be “sha256 alia_script”; but I seriously doubt you be on FreeBSD.

As for the giveaway: 8 spots are gone, the rest is still open... I'm signing off for today, so there'll be no updates of the slots for the next ~16 hours. As mentioned before: it's first come, first serve. If you are one of the first 16 mails with a VALID giveaway code i receive, i'll put the sha256 hash of your giveaway code next to your slot (0-f) and announce a future block whose hash's last character is used to announce the winner.
Once the giveaway is finished the winner has 48 hours to send a mail to [email protected] including his/her physical address (signed with the address in their original email) (including a phone number, so basically: your name, your street + number, your zipcode, your country, your phonenumber).
And you didn't provide a list of people who emailed you, how do they know if they're one of the first 16  Roll Eyes  How do they know who are the winner if they don't know what their sha256 hash is  Huh

Free Private Giveaway of a CHEAP, CHINESE, dropshipped keychain.

I'm trying out Themos's new feature: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-do-private-giveaways-5226333

Basically, in order to join this giveaway, you have to be at least a full member without negative trust from DT1. If you are elegible for the giveaway, follow these steps:

  • Visit https://bitcointalk.org/basic_giveaway.php?id=DWaUZwfERv to get a giveaway code
  • send an email to [email protected] with this giveaway code AND a unfunded BITCOIN address you can use to sign a message to prove your identity (you don't have to use your real email addy, just create a free one on gmail, yahoo, gmx, protonmail, guerillamail, 10minutemail,... No link between your bitcointalk account and your email addy)

The winner can also include his/her giveaway code for extra verification. You are allowed to PGP encrypt your reply email using my key that can be found on https://keybase.io/mocacinno
I'll then proceed to dropship the cheap keychain to the address i have received for the winning giveaway code.

This way, there is no relation between the address receiving the keychain and your bitcointalk account. I have no idear if i'm giving a keychain to my best friend or my worst enemy... I have no idear if the receiver has been boasting about how many BTC he/she holds, or if he/she doesn't own a single satoshi... The only thing i know is that the receiver is full member (or higher) and doesn't have negative trust from DT1.

Since this is my first time dropshipping anything, i really hope everything works as it should... It's dropshipping from china, so it could potentially take a long time before you receive the package (normally 4 to 6 weeks, however, with the corona virus it might even take longer).

disclaimer: i'm testing out a new feature of the forum AND it's my first time dropshipping anything. IF, for some reason, there is a bug in the feature OR if something goes wrong with the dropshipping (including, but not limited to: not receiving the package, incurring extra custom charges,...) i take no responsability, i will not reimburse you, you cannot start a trial against me Smiley.
Full disclosure, to test out the system, i'll probably enter my own hash into the table aswell this time. Won't happen next time tough...

Also, if something goes wrong with the dropshipping, and any identifying information about me gets included in the box, i count on your discretion... Don't dox me for giving away a present!

Self-moderated topic because i want to be able to remove anybody posting identifying info about him/herself or me.

Let the games begin Smiley
