I hope not. This forum does not need the degeneracy of banned twitter crowd. Think of it like as an influx of Alex Jones equivalents that would try to convince everyone that the lizards are gay. Then, imagine what it would be like, if god forbid, the socialist crowd moved in here. They would spread FUD about bitcoin as they infuse their shitty politics with BTC.

Does bitcointalk have free speech or is it just another place where the truth is silenced if it is unpopular with those controlling it?

I see now that telegram is the next target. I'm not sure on what grounds?

The question is: does bitcointalk permit independently verifiable truths to be presented or is it just another free speech crushing echo chamber on certain issues?

Bitcoin is very open towards your views, as long as you post within the correct sub forum and offend anyone on purpose. For example, in the politics and society forum you will find a lot of different opinions. We have an international forum here that offers a broad spectrum of topics and opinions. As long as you don't want to do anyone harm you should be fine to express your opinions here.

Pointedly, I think Bitcointalk allows for divergent opinions and speech provided they're laced with facts and proofs. However, I have come to perceive here that reactions defer when certain people are called out for wrong doing and then their army of supporters queue up behind them, even when these supporters know that what those who are called out did is bad. I remember an encounter I had here in 2020 with a Bounty Manager whom I called out because one of the bounties he ran turned scam and how retaliatory the BM became, tagging anyone who dared fault him on what the project did. It was an obvious case of negligence on the part of BM but instead they tried to attack my post and even got a lot of sympathetic accounts to join in the melee.

Well, whether free speech or not, we have to know that no one has a right to make posts, especially on "Reputation" without substantiating them. It's the same way no on should feed others with lies about someone all in the guise of free speech. Even in real life, the court frowns at it. It's called defamation of character.

Bingo.

You see there can be the illusion of free speech until you start to discover inconvenient truths that the people controlling what you can say wish to remain hidden.

They perhaps do not have the ability yet to delete your posts but can punish you harshly if you are persistently prone to telling the truth. Why should there be potential for scammers to punish whistleblowers on this forum.
It needs to be examined and fixed.

There are some glaring issues with free speech here. That with a few tweaks could be eliminated.

For the most part and for most topics it is among the best places to discuss anything on the net that doesnt require bulletproof hosting.

I would say we need the rules that are currently in place, if not stricter ones. BCT is a informational hub for me & a part-time freelance zone. so the last thing I want to see is pointless chatter/porn/spam, seen on twitter. Matter of fact free speech is such a broad term don't think it will ever be truly allowed, trust... I've always had choice words for people, also caught several bans and restrictions from it, so was it free speech? anyways "I'M REFORMED".

in conclusion, every community has their level of Free speech, as shown in any social media guideline. There's "more (lenience for b/s) free speech" on twitter, which is better IMO for this community.

Yes tougher rules that really would block irrelevant offtopic spam.

There is never a case for developing systems that punish those that present on topic relevant independently verifiable truths.

So for example the forum must abolish any system that would permit a proven scammer on this forum from using the forum software to deter or punish someone whistle blowing on them.

That is clearly a mistake.

Creating a system where the on topic and relevant truth is punishable is clearly not in the best interest of other members or the forum.

Could Bitcointalk with a few tweaks become a new home for those that have had their free speech crushed?

Probably not. Bitcointalk is a niche forum for cryptocurrency enthusiasts, specifically bitcoin.

Bitcointalk also heavily favors those that are very active via the merit system and requires activity on the forum, and time spent on the forum in order to rank up. This means someone with an existing following would have difficulty having a voice on the forum.

Bitcointalk does very much value free speech, and takes affirmative measures to promote the ability of people to say their opinions.

Bitcointalk taking affirmative action to ensure free speech?

Could you explain what you mean?

Which measures are you referring to.

1. What would inhibit their free speech if such measures were not in place
2. If you can be punished using the systems put in place by bitcointalk and defamed for presenting independently verifiable truths regarding only the behavior of people on the forum and their observable history here then that is clearly a free speech crushing tool that bitcointalk has developed.

Generally the free speech here is way better than most social media.
However the discussion of inconvenient truths is crushed here.

That should be looked at.
There is no excuse for it

There is zero reason to point the finger and say well these other places crush either rightwing or left wing voices.
There is either free speech or there is not.

Also, crushing an unverified opinion with no corroborating evidence or proof is poor without first conclusively debunking it.
But to deliberately seek to punish or suppress undeniable and independently verifiable truth is going that extra step further.

There should never be any possible restriction or limits or admin designed and implemented punishment for presenting on topic relevant and independently verifiable truths that were already available to the public.

There is free speech or there is not.

One can argue there is no right to free speech from any service. That is fine. But that service must accept they actively and wilfully seek to crush free speech. Aka seek to suppress the truth in certain areas.

I think it should be set in stone especially on such forum as this where accuracy, consistency, transparency and trustless are big ticket usp, that the control systems put in place are not leveraged to punish those presenting the undeniable truths I have described above. Anyone attempting to do so should have a warning on their account.

This is one big way the forum could be drastically improved.

Being better than places that clearly seek to hide inconvenient truths via instant ban isn't really the benchmark to aim for.
You should be aiming to provide the verifiable truth at all times regardless of how convenient it is.

You never know what other areas of discussion could suddenly become taboo.

I suppose no point getting the forum closed down for hosting strong political discussion that grew to any size and influence.
Still would be sensible to review certain aspects of control systems being implemented.

Although I am a supporter of the free speech, the last thing I want is people supporting radical political views to land here and post about mad conspiracy theories and threats. This forum has survived for 11 years, and it will be a great tragedy if the authorities would shut us down for some crazy posts by a few lunatics. So let's stick to cryptocurrency discussions and leave the fight for free speech to someone else.
Radical political views will only proliferate if we let it be, think of this views as a cancer and society is the body, we can cure it at early stages by completely eradicating it while it is still a small movement but if we let it go unnoticed for some time, we will reach terminal case and we will never be able to fight back from it. Free speech does not mean that you or anyone who supports it lets other people get their radical stuff get broadcasted to other people, we can use the same freedom that they are using to destroy and try to impose some logic in their rotten and flawed political views. I do not think that shutting down this forum just cause some radical schmuck are posting illogical stuff in the P&S board will be the best course for authorities, shutting down will defeat the purpose of free speech, the board is Politics and Society after all so why not let intellectuals school the idiots, instead of destroying their nest which will make them migrate to other platforms in which they will spread their illogical views, why not change their radical views here.

No, I have had my free speech crushed here many times, and all those who silenced me here, will be silenced in timelessness forever.

No free speech here, bitcointalk is centralized by idiots.

It is actually worse than twitter. They ninja ban post here they don`t like.

I post and I post a lot.

I have had hundreds if not a thousand altered and deleted posts.

freedom of speach is about the wiggling of your lips and tongue to create sound that someones ear can hear.

if your using a service. any service. you have no right to it. you have permission
no one is entitled to a megaphone or a microphone or a account with a service. you are allowed these things by permission.
never forget that.

if you say something that can harm others. others have the ability to stop you.
whether its turning the mic off. banning you. suing you for defamation, criminal charges for inciting a riot/insurection.

you have the right to biologically move your lips. but the words you say come with responsibility.
so if you want to say bad things, be responsible for your words and know that you can get in trouble for what you say.

Many people posting on Bitcointalk pretend to be libertarian, but in fact are brainwashed by the MSM, and have neo-marxist opinions.
In such an environment, if you have conservative opinions, you are going to be censored somehow.

Could Bitcointalk with a few tweaks become a new home for those that have had their free speech crushed?
That would mean the servers getting shut off beyond the control of the forum admin.

Yes bitcointalk offers a platform for free speech. The rules and laws are there to help protect the community from evil doers. The trust system is a reliable weapon against scammers. A community without law will always end in chaos. Traditional social media has denied us our rights to free speech and privacy, decentralized blockchain social media is the only platform that gives users privacy and free speech.

No, I have had my free speech crushed here many times, and all those who silenced me here, will be silenced in timelessness forever.

That's not true. Your posts were probably against the forum rules. I see you are a newbie. Read the rules before posting.

If that's true you wouldn't be here.

What if I told you that wasnt true?

What if I could provide incontrovertible proof that the trust system here can and has been used to crush free-speech?
What if I could provide independently verifiable evidence that scammers here operating from inside of default trust can use the trust system to prevent valid warnings, trade red tag removals and use red tags and flags to deter those that would provide proof of their past actions?

What is the merit and trust systems here are actually tools to control free speech and deter and crush peoples ability to speak truths ? Even those that are independently verifiable?

Is that much better than banning them really?

A trust system that enables scammers to punish their whistleblowers? This is not free speech.
Who will dare to speak out if they are under threat or will be punished for doing so.

When the mugger holds a gun at your face and says go ahead call out for help but guess what happened if you do?
How is your free speech then? Of course you could call out or even tell them what you really thought about them but most will be deterred.

They also try to rebrand or claim that the truth is trolling? This is something they will beg admin to invoke constantly.

Also there are other corrupt mechanisms here that engage powers above DT that can get your account terminated for simply speaking the truth ?

Would you believe that or would you require seeing the evidence?

There is a way we could protect free speech here entirely and ensure equal and fair treatment and opportunity for a members
Should we discuss how bitcointalk can become way more useful for those seeking a home for free speech than twitter.

It must be stated at this point that I am unsure whether admin are complicit or simply dont really care much about free speech or no ot enough to fix the problem.

So, yes better than Twitter perhaps but far from perfect. Far far.

We could though improve this forum in a huge way quite easily.

It depends, what kind of freedom of speech we are talking about here, As far as I know, in this forum apart from discussing cryptocurrency, you are free to say anything as long as you speak in the right place. you want to talk about the economy, you can. you want to talk politics, you can. choose a place that suits your topic of conversation.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
This forum allows you to talk anything about cryptocurrencies in general and certain section allows to post threads which related to politics so posting your thread in the right section makes it as discussion thread or else it has chances of deletion.

Better read the forum rules before posting it because serious trolls and spams will be deleted for sure.
