7. The first Faucets actually gave 5 BTC ! *5* to each visitor ( why did I not know of this before 😭)

The 5 Bitcoins were only worth a few cents at that time and the faucet was created because the interest was very limited at that time. One must also take into account the situation was much different compared to today. If you had got the 5 Bitcoins back then, you very likely would not have kept them until 2020 (unless you forgot them). Most people have already dumped many Bitcoins from the early days at the first highs of $50-60. I remember this time because I was a part of it  Cool

Wow, but in what year this faucet? Of course, if it is today's faucet, the person will be really rich directly because of that much money. However, we do not know where it was in what year. probably in that year, the price of BTC was still very small. So the value of 5 BTC is not hat much converted to the fiat at that time. It is likely what happens to the Pizza bought by Bitcoin.

The other fun fact that I always find is about:
Many people think that they will become rich overnight by Bitcoin, although they are new without much money as funds, they will be rich. this is fun I think because they only think about the profits.

Definitely some cool facts here! I had no idea that we have already at this point come to over 70 forks.  I am guessing these are all hard forks correct, I don't believe there have been any soft forks to this point anyhow ?

Hello everyone I hope everyone is staying at home , today I stumbled across an article about Bitcoins and I would love to share some interesting facts about Bitcoins :')

1. Apparently people in the community are using Honey badger as the unofficial mascot of Bitcoins .

2. Apparently in 2010 due to a bug 184 billion BTC were produced 😂 , don't be so happy guys this error is already erased .

3. The maximum number of Bitcoins is not actually 21 millions but actually 20.99 something.

4. A smaller unit than Satoshi is in use now called msat!

5. Bitcoin's uptime is covered apparently 99.99% which is supposed to be an amazing thing if a centralized body achieve it .

6. The Disappearance of Bitcoins is actually connected with CIA when a person named Gavin actually went and complained about him. - creepy - (I don't think he would have disappeared if all he did was say good things about him)

7. The first Faucets actually gave 5 BTC ! *5* to each visitor ( why did I not know of this before 😭)

8. It is only used 10% for the crime thing ! ONLY 10% !
(For people asking me to back it up 😂 "
Illegal Activity No Longer Dominant Use of Bitcoin: DEA Agent. A special agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has reportedly revealed that the use of bitcoin in illegal activities has shrunk to about 10 percent from 90 percent previously.", Read about it first !)

9. There are around 70 forks related to Bitcoins.

10. Mining consumes much energy as a mid size country 😅 ( we gotta use some renewable sources soon enough )

11. The first transaction for Bitcoins was made for PIZZA !(first time when it was used as a Currency)

12. Lightning network can hold millions of transactions per second! ( Trust me that's good )

13 . Since 2017 the Bitcoins have achieved higher transactions compared to PayPal related to values .

https://www.coinmama.com/blog/40-surprising-facts-about-bitcoin/

There are around 40 facts here , feel free to read and share some of your own 😊 .
I really enjoyed reading this thread. It is really interesting since. This is something that is often forgotten, which is a little more than appropriate when speaking of Ghost Bitcoins. You see, a significant number of Bitcoins that have been mined and given to users are now inaccessible, either because the keys to the wallets they are store in have been lost, or the wallets themselves have been lost.

The first Faucets actually gave 5 BTC ! *5* to each visitor ( why did I not know of this before 😭)
I can remember that when I got into Bitcoin, as a newbie I was able to raise $15 from faucets after months of hard work and Bitcoin was around $250 as at the time I had this $15. But I sold the $15 and quit Bitcoin after something happened, and I was kind of discouraged. By the time I got back, a friend told me that the price was already at $2,000 dollars! Shocked Damn!

I have really missed a lot in this market and it annoys me a lot whenever I remember what I have missed sometimes. And imagine I was able to claim 5 BTC from faucets lol Cheesy Grin that means if I hold them till now, because I know for sure it wouldn't be one that I would have claimed.

It seems the earlier we got into bitcoin, the chances for being more richer if we have opted not to spend all those bitcoins. 5BTC for faucet claim is something, I still could not digest. I mean, to be rich now I would have mined bitcoins by 2010 but just if I would have tried BTC faucets alone more than enough, it seems.

Nice thread dude. I'm don't know some of the facts that you stated there.
I though that btc uptime was 100%. it was not working? why?
5 btc faucet is my dream...

Are you referring to the faucet site?

Probably yes. Faucet sites were definetely one of the funniest things connected with Bitcoin. What a waist of time and efforts for almost nothing and so many people were involved clicking like crazy. Some even really thought they can make some real Bitcoins.
True, I spent almost a year claiming free BTC in faucets and ended up in a scam. It's definitely a waste of time and effort claiming those free BTC that should be spent on other things.

Even the cloud mining sites that literally give free BTC, it's also a scam and some are just ponzi.

So if ever there's a friend of mine wasting time here, I always warned them it might be a scam and suggesting to go trading.

4. A smaller unit than Satoshi is in use now called msat!
Where uses smaller unit than satoshi is being used and by whom? Any reference link for this? Honestly I have been into thoughts about making satoshi as the base unit which also lead me to think about having other units to denote values lesser than one satoshi. But, surprisingly you have mentioned about what was in my mind for years. If your time permits, please share here any reference link for msatt unit. I am just looking for it to enlighten me more on this regard.

Edit:
msat seems a new innovation after lightening network's revolution.
Just with google search, I find this bitcoin wiki page which has a mention about msat: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Units

Any way, thanks a lot for sharing these fun facts about bitcoins; even most of them were old and already aware of, it is good to recall them.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the inventor of bitcoin.
Nakamoto published a paper in 2008 that first described the currency, and released the first version of a bitcoin software client in 2009. But “Satoshi Nakamoto” is a pseudonym, and to this day no one knows who he or she is. The last anyone has heard from them was in 2011, and various sleuths have tried to uncover their identity (unsuccessfully) ever since.

It's epic and historical and that was made by Gavin Andresen. This was the first bitcoin faucet thread made by himself.

Get 5 free bitcoins from freebitcoins.appspot.com

Any takers for that domain? The next lucky owner could use some link juice as a head start Cheesy
I don't know who's the owner of it, maybe it's still him. But if not, that's sure a piece of history that he can take for a while and sell it at a premium price.

Let's be real here. If you've been collecting a lot of coins from that faucet, chances are, you, and a lot of people including me, would've sold once it became worth something(in USD). Bitcoin was simply still very experimental back then that it's going to be pretty hard to be bullish in the long term. Tongue
For real.

Actually true, we wouldn't be thinking to hold it during that time if ever we're part of those folks who were early adopters and pioneers to know about bitcoin.

14. Bitcoin is only used about 10% for crime according to the DEA
This fact must be known to more people. We know that bitcoin is a high-risk investment, and is often avoided because it has the potential to be used as a crime tool. As with any object that exists in this world, the good and bad of these objects depends on the subject or user. Similarly, bitcoin and other cryptos can be very useful if used properly and can be a tool of a crime if the user is a criminal who wants to take advantage of this. Unfortunately, the news is often made hyperbole, making a negative stigma that bitcoin is dangerous, often used for illegal transactions, darknet, drugs, etc.
Quote
According to the Cyber Investigative Task Force, an inter-agency collaboration involving the DEA, FBI, and ATF, 90% or more of Bitcoin volume is entirely unrelated to drug purchases.

The above historical information about bitcoin is really interesting. Here I want to mark the point 13. All the discussion about bitcoin are being possible because of increasing huge volume of transaction. Bitcoin has already grabbed the top position of the crypto world. It has occupied a greater part of the world's digital transaction. It is expected that countries of the world will allow bitcoin for all types of transaction like fiat money in near future. Then we will read more fun facts about bitcoin in website, books, paper and magazine etc.

I never knew about that 😭

I am too late to know about bitcoin. But I can be realistic because now, at least, I still have the opportunity to make money from bitcoin and altcoin. I am sure that it is just beginning for us.

But I really want to back to that time to get free 5 bitcoin  Grin

Ah. A really really common statement from people who just knew about Gavin Andresen's bitcoin faucet.

So many fun facts especially this one. No one would have thought BTC would have value. The pizza guy started off by exchanging his BTC for pizza now, here we are.
Although some would have sold their 5 BTC way back before the ATH.

Thanks for this list!
I did not know #1 and, to be honest, I've never noticed anyone with such a mascot. So I'm not sure it's a thing. Especially since there's been a Bitcointalk Art contest recently and while I did not look through all the artworks, I've seen quite a lot of them and none had this animal there.
I also did not know some other things you've mentioned, but some of them don't sound accurate, to be honest (just like #1). And the Pizza transaction definitely wasn't the first one, it was just the one that got very famous.

The first bitcoin faucet creator Gavin Anderson claimed Craig wright is the Satoshi Nakamoto once.
I thought Gavin would have claimed him (Craig) as the mascot. I guess that's a bold claim but I think Gavin has already cleared it and just searching for it was it was way back 2016, I just stumbled upon this article: https://www.ccn.com/gavin-andersen-craig-wright-blog-mistake/.

And not to forget that the first (couple of) pizza were bought with 10,000 bitcoins.
