Brain hacking. When the green dot moves, it normally would leave a purple afterimage for a second. Your brain erases that, so you only see the green dot. Since the purple "afterimages" are actually there, they disappear when the green dot passes over them. Pretty cool.
Edit: I looked at a single frame. The green dot actually isn't there. it's just removing the purple "afterimages" in sequence. More brain hackery!
