Some truth.
I've lurked around both forums for a while. I am not part of your community - not for a long time. I remember when this place was cool. When it was fun. When people actually laughed with each other.
Interstellar has two great statements here (I bolded them), and seems to be trying to understand the mentality that would embrace Garza's cult of personality. Why would that be popular?
Whatever you think of GAW now, they were a great hardware reseller. The fact that when prices on ASICs dropped the week of delivery back in 2014 and GAW gave customers a portion of their money back when they complained. This behavior won them customers for life. This was good business. It was behavior we wish every reseller would try to emulate.
Fast forward from then, to now.
You have newbies adopting Paycoin and ardently defending it - people who never dealt with GAW as a reseller, but are still ardent supporters. How is this? These people have no connection to GAW prior to cloud mining and some have only come on during the conversion to XPY. Why are they willing to support GAW no matter what?
The answer is the alternative is so distasteful, they'd rather set fire to their own cash than be on the other team. You have come to epitomize the "other" team.
Read through the whole GAW thread here.
Only a few posters are civil. Even with helpful posters, others pile on with posts full of nastiness that turns people away.
Yes, you can post the truth and be such a c*ck that people shun you. Being wrong is better than standing with you.
You can say that these people deserve to lose their shirts (and you may be right) but that doesn't change that the attitude here is not helpful for mass adoption. The general public when they seek to learn about bitcoin end up here. BCT really is the face the public sees - and you remind people of the douchey 2nd level support tech, rather than the guy that comes and fixes everything and apologizes that the user had to be subjected to 2nd level support.
Mass adoption used to be a goal. Knowledge used to be a goal. Mentoring people here used to be a goal. Now it's more like the place where goth kids hang out and talk about what losers everyone else has become.
Rather than restrict your discussion to facts, personal attacks are leveled against others, and when that happens people walk away. I know, it can be frustrating to deal with people who refuse to look at the evidence when it is presented clearly. Beating them down every time they stick their head up is not the answer. At this point I don't know what is. It doesn't matter what happens at GAW - let them do their thing. Let them derail on their own. The waters here are becoming so poisoned that it is unlikely anyone will want to wade in for a very long time.
You want more people to take bitcoin seriously, you have to behave with some candor - even when others do not. You have to set the bar (I know, I used c*ck above, I'm part of the problem too).
You're a community. Police yourselves. Set the standard not only for investigation, but for the way in which others are treated.
That is how you win.
The problem is in some ways Josh has already won. He has a coin with tons of trading volume and an almost infinite supply of coins to sell. Even if he sells off slowly every day, every day that goes by makes him richer and richer.
He can sell 10000 paycoins at $3 every single day. That's $30k per day. Even if it drops to $.50 he will make 5k per day. Every day that passes gets him richer and richer. And the cultists/pawns are more than willing to sacrifice themselves to allow him to cash out against them. They are about to dig into their credit cards to help him cash out more as I type this.
It's kind of sad. We showed the truth but it doesn't really matter. Shows how fucked the world is. Unless he ends up in lawsuits or jail, what else is to stop him? The exchanges will never delisted XPY because they are making bank on the high volume.
I'm not sure I see this ending well actually. Pretty much like every altcoin scammer, the scammer gets away with a fortune and leaves the bagholders behind to suffer.
