Not familiar with the Japanese guy but experienced-wise, GGG has the upper hand. Their age is not that gap so we should not take age as one of their disadvantages. They are now in their post-prime but still thinking they will give us action like playing on their prime especially Golovkin.

It's already confirmed that he will fight Murata I think the title should be changed now and put the name of the challenger which is Murata.

Yes, I agree with that as a proper format for any boxing match threads here.

Somehow a fair treatment for both parties and not just because GGG will return to the ring. Smiley

I never thought that GGG will hang his gloves already so I'm expecting he will have a fight, even not this year but surely next year.

But since there's already an agreement, fans will be excited again to see him in the ring.

I'm hoping too for one last time that he will face again Canelo. Should be done quickly by next year.

^ No one knows for me even though GGG is a good fighter but the chances are 50/50.
Just like what happened in Manny Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugas's fight, we thought that was easy for Pacquiao to fight Ugas but unfortunately, it is a victory for Ugas in the end which he is the underdog. The same on this fight, GGG probably has better odds but we cannot be sure that there is accuracy on the result that he will always win.

You cannot compare GGG to Pacquiao, Pacquiao is so busy in so many things he is mainly into politics, and his last fight prior to the Ugas fight was two years, GGG is a more active one and he won his last fight via knock out, he is still sharp strong and fast, I'm sure that GGG will take care of business, I'm still hoping that he and Canelo will meet again, they deserve each other because of their individual style of fighting.

I agree with your opinion, Pacquiao I don't think he can be compared, GGG has been loved for a long time and apart is always a favorite, whoever he can fight with can give a great show, I do not deny that a fight against Pacquiao would give him a great leap to life. fame and he would return to the ring with all his strength, especially if he achieves a victory, I hope the promoter manages to take advantage of this moment, many of us are happy to see GGG again, but we want high-level fights.

Golovkin is not getting good fights now compared to Canelo, GGG's last fight was against Szeremeta and it became an easy fight for GGG os he on for retirement that his promoter is not giving him top fights anymore, he's still strong and people want to see a trilogy against Canelo, this is a fight that he should prepare, there's a possibility that it will happen.

While Ryota Murata is a decent fighter on his own merit, I don't think there will be much contest when he's matched against Golovkin. Not to disrespect Murata or anything, but I think his experience isn't enough to outclass and outmatch Golovkin's tenure on the ring. Still, this could be a fight that we're waiting to watch. A refresher, I must say, as we will see a relatively-new fighter square it off against an experienced warrior in the ring. It's exciting to see how Murata will handle himself against the likes of GGG.

Not to disrespect, of course, you are just telling the truth I also have the opinion that Murata's experience is not enough to counter GGG experience and power, Golovkin still has what it takes to beat anyone in the ring, promoters should give Golovkin to fight Canelo again, they are the only fight of both fighters that challenge their boxing skill, Canelo has been beating champions while Golovkin is facing unknown fighters, where's the justice here.
This should not be a problem for GGG, the quality of his opponent below the quality of the opponents he beat in his previous fight. We all long to see a trilogy of GGG and Canelo, but I think this will not happen anymore as eventually, GGG will retire soon, at 39 years old, he is already good to retire if he will not get big fights after this fight.

Looks like we can still see Gennadiy Golovkin fighting this year.

This is the article that says he is going to fight this year.

Gennadiy Golovkin and Ryota Murata agree to December 28th unification in Japan
16

Golovkin holds the IBF middleweight title, Murata the WBA

GGG fought last year, so in this scheduled fight if it happen, he will be inactive for over a year.
I hope this is not his last fight, as though is not getting any younger, many are still hoping he would fight Canelo Alvarez one more time.
This is good news, the pandemic has been terrible for everyone but athletes that were at the end of their careers are really suffering, after all GGG is not getting any younger and even if I think he is still quite good at the same time there is no denial that some of his abilities are slowly diminishing due to his age and the brutal nature of the sport, just as you I wish this is not his last fight, but if it is I hope he gets to walk away from boxing with a victory.

GGG deserves more than this. He deserves bigger fights with boxers with huge names if ever he's planning to quit. It's better to quit on his field when he has planted a good name and history. He's one of the favorites so I'm hoping that he would have more fights in the future.

He has a good knock out percentage winning 13 of his 16 wins via knock out but I have not seen him fought a big name in boxing and because of this he'll have a hard time-fighting GGG's unorthodox style, he needs to come out with a Canelo like performance to keep up with GGG power and speed, it's very unfortunate that while Canelo is fighting top fighters, GGG is not getting a huge fight so he can prepare himself in case there's a trilogy between him and Canelo.

At 39, GGG has had such a stellar career and in my own opinion should be heading for retirement after his next fight for two reasons. First, any loss at this time will not look good on his over 20years of impressive boxing career record. Second, you don't wanna be in the ring when you are over 35 years. There's a strong inverse correlation between age and a boxer's health. Although, the middleweight division has some top fighters that are yearning to get in the ring with GGG at this time, i'd say he should just do a last get fight, get win as money retirement and move on to something else.

Ryota Murata is not a popular boxer, only had 16 fights (https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/657422) while he loses of that fights.

This fight will be in Japan, so it's good for Ryota Murata as he is in his home-court advantage, but I doubt it will help him win because GGG will not make him last 12 rounds, most probably a KO win by GGG will be witnessed in the fight day.

I'm just impressed by the promoter of the fight as they also consider bringing the fight to Japan and Asians would be happy with that.

Murata is very popular in Japan. They could easily sell out a stadium with this fight. It all depends on what Covid precautions will look like. They might have the fight in a smaller arena. The fight is around the New Year holiday which is when they have a lot of big fights in Japan.

I think this is an evenly matched fight. GGG is past his prime and gets hit a lot. Murata has the perfect style to go toe to toe and make it an exciting fight which I expect to be a war.

Not sure if you have seen the second fight between GGG and Canelo. But GGG lost that fight, although it is very controversial result.

I never heard of Murata, probably this is just a get busy fight for GGG, he has a contract and promoters need to honour this one to at least give him one fight a year. In any case, if Murata is coming out of a 2 year hiatus, then I don't expect him to pull an upset against GGG, even if GGG is nearing 40 years old.

The only fighter who beat GGG was Canelo but as you said, I agree that it's a controversial one as the result is in a split decision. His opponent now does not have a lot of experience in big fights, and at his age, GGG could still dominate here. I hope it will not look like an exhibition fight because he is just fighting an unknown boxer.

No, that's a very different case, Manny was supposedly planning to fight Errol Spence Jr, all his preparations are for that kind of fight. However, in the last minute, Spence had an injury and Ugas step up and was a replacement. So they are back to 0 training and preparing for Ugas and I think this is a big factor for a Manny lost.

But in GGG case, if he has an opponent already then all his mental and preparation will be in place so I'm not expecting any upset by Murata.

Looking at Murata's professional record, this shouldn't be ignored. But we're all for GGG, isn't it?

Everyone loves GGG and this is likely that we're all speculating that this match is for GGG already.

Comparing of with GGG official record of 41W(36KOs) - 1 Loss, then even them would really know on whose the advantage on here on just basing up with experience and skills.

Its true that Ryota isnt really that much that popular as a japanese fighter aside from Inoue but this would be a good sparring fight for GGG. Cheesy

It thought or have that first impression that this has to be an another exhibition fight.

One of my favorite famous boxers GGG.
He is undefeated and considering a stronger boxer and he is a middleweight champion and ranks #7 on TBRB's pound-for-pound list.
But why his opponent is Murata seems a weak fighter to me challenging on the beast. Good luck Murata.

From his smile, GGG has its own characteristics. Despite the advantages he had, it was clear that his opponent would not really hold out. This is quite an entertaining event where we can watch the undefeated champion bounce back in the boxing ring. Maybe I bet that Murata only lasted 5 Rounds.
