Finally, the Japanese government accepted bitcoin as a legal payment!BTC

Want some insights or a quick guide into how bitcoin works as a currency in Tokyo?

What kind of products and services we can buy using bitcoinsBTC?

What app should we choose to trade bitcoins?

Or even how’s the Sakura going on under the landmark Tokyo Tower?

Yes, way too many questions!

Therefore, we invite Ruby as our Tokyo bitcoin guide to help you discover more about Bitcoin & the City.

Just by watching the video below!

If you couldn't open the video, just click the link here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfJG6iVeRfI
or
https://www.facebook.com/bitkanofficial/videos/1826169514312062/

In case you don’t have Wi-Fi now and neither do you have an unlimited data plan, we have prepared a quick preview for you:

Ruby from BitKan which is a very aggressive and professional Bitcoin agency,

in a city full of innovation and wonders, discovering every single possibility of our beloved Bitcoin,

this whole thing could totally appeal to you.

And to add spice to this documentary,

she accepted our challenge of living in Tokyo only by bitcoins for 72 hours!

As soon as it began, she rushed to her favorite place in town, which of course is the National Museum...

no way, just kidding! It’s a bar. Ruby rushed to a bar in broad daylight!

But, drinking is just like marriage, you need to choose the right timing!

5 o’clock in the afternoon is of course not a good time for getting drunk. Maybe that’s why this bar won’t open until 8 pm.

Still, nothing could stop Ruby to get a taste of Tokyo nightlife. She made the second charge into that bar, and this time she succeeded.

But how to pay in bitcoins after you get a little bit tipsy? There are two methods for you, so please stay sober and read on:

1, By using a Third-party Bitcoin Payment app.

Some apps in Japan could ensure the instant transfer of currency by using third-party payment,

and the rate will be automatically calculated.

This actually is as quick and easy as WeChat Pay, only in bitcoins.

For instance, Ruby this time used CoinCheck to pay her bills. All she needed to do is scan the QR code and press “confirm”!

2, By discussing the rate with the merchant and transfer bitcoins with BitKan app.

This method is widely used among small merchants. For instance, when Ruby was renting a Kimono, the shop keeper decided his own rate.

5000 Yen (around 50 USD)

=

0.5 BTC!!!!!!!!!

(You must be kidding me! I will give you 500 USD for 5 BTC please!)

OK, it turned out that the shopkeeper was not that good with numbers. And it should be 0.05 BTC.

Anyway, we should keep it in mind that the exchange rate might not be fair, and Visa or MasterCard is still a better choice.

(obviously Ruby doesn’t care about the exchange rate at all! Stay happy, girl!)

Q: How many dollars did Ruby pay in Bitcoin to rent the Kimono?

LEAVE YOUR ANSWER and YOUR IMPRESSION OF VIEW on the comment, leave your BitKan ID number, you will get a surprise!

I only wish that this is possible in other parts of the world.

In my country, China, this isn't possible at all. The money transmitting sector is dominated by big payment processors like Wechat pay and Alipay, and nobody is giving any thought to bitcoin at all.

This is a great decision by the Japanese government.

But at the same time, other countries are moving further and further away from bitcoin. Just look at how the central bank of China put all these regulations around the withdrawal of coins from exchanges etc.

That is the beautiful thing about Bitcoin. If your government wants to be spiteful and ban Bitcoin locally, you can still hoard it and spend it in

another country where it is accepted. { You can have a huge holiday and buy loads of stuff while you there } If these countries think, they

going to stop Bitcoin, they have another thing coming. They are just going to lose a bunch of tax income and tourism income if they ban it.  Grin

All I know is that I know nothing.
this is a nice attempt and it was kind of fun to watch, but it mostly seems like someone who is trying way too hard to make both an informative, supportive kind of video and at the same time be a fun thing to watch. i say it wasn't that successful in any of these aspects!

Since Japan is just recently recognized BTC as currency this in the video is just the beginning and as we can see it was not easy to find places where you can pay with BTC.Japan is a highly technologically developed country and I think that BTC has a bright future in the land of the rising sun.

It would be interesting to conduct this kind of research for some six months and then after one year so that we can see how will BTC actually have an impact in everyday life.

I'm glad they finally at it,Japan is a technology giant with their full acceptance of Bitcoin I'm sure they will innovate and invite usage of Bitcoin,I think a lot of great things will come out in Japan in terms of bitcoin usage I doubt if they will set up a mining company they would set up applications and products that they are going to sell to bitcoin users.

Yep, there is a news that you could use bitcoin in supermarket in Japan now! Really great experience ! Wink

Yea, we also had a guy who paid $150 for a beer at a local pub when he got a bit tipsy and there will be people who would exploit this. This is no

different for any other currency, because you can do the same with cash or credit cards. What you can do, is to use a separate wallet for "social"

nights.... Just transfer enough for the night before you go out. This will prevent scrupulous bar men to clear your Bitcoin balance.  Roll Eyes

Wow!$150 is really a large amount just for a beer ! Keep your bitcoin in your pocket. Grin

BitKan App could contain some reference pricings in a database and popup an alert if figures don't fit. That would be the modern way to do. Easy on beer.
But..
I would not tell any App anything about what I am trying to buy or rent (Kimonos are out of question here) and many users might feel similar concerns regarding their privacy.

Great suggestion!
I'm also think about the privacy problems, only in the world that we don't use 3rd part and only pay each other with our address QR code, then no one will get my information in anyway.
Your bank is stealing your information somehow. who knows.

It's a bit unfortunate that price might be manipulated because of fast changing exchange rate.
What would be a fair exchange rate for Bitcoin anyway, is there even something like fair price?

Maybe the price based on our trust. Tongue

This is fantastic new for whales that live in japan like Rover Ver. That bastard can now load up thousands of BTC and go around holding millions and spending it around, fuck!

Meanwhile, people like me are dreaming with owning 21 BTC.

Life is too unfair.

i think people realized already that they can live on bitcoin, but the point is that until their government accept it as a currency they are not going to risk possible task evasion and all the other unsecurity that come by using it

in fact you see by the time the japan government accepted it the masses which is what matter, started to use it more

btw that girl had 1000 btc, imply that japan are buying en mass, which is nice boost tot he value, they are probably leading the market right now

I'm glad this experience wasn't one of those "no, I must only spend directly from Bitcoin to Bitcoin" types of deals that others have done only to conclude that Bitcoin is difficult to spend.

Living on Bitcoin means having bitcoins and spending them. Even if you need to go through third party services.

I imagine if someone were to do an experiment of "I'm only going to spend dollars" and use actual cash they would experience more limited options. Some places in the US do not accept cash anymore.

yes but i can't see the reason to use third party you can easily use bitcoin with only your core client, you can scan qr code from there and pay anyone like the girld did

It's easy to pay directly using BTC because you trust each other and trust in bitcoin, if you wanna pay any stranger, make be 3rd part like visa card is much acceptable.

Yep, through 3rd party to make BTC much more easier to use is the best way to let people use BTC.
We don't need everyone understand it then trust it then use it, it's difficult.
But we could let people in the world to find a better way to pay and exchange, and finally they realized that that's BTC

But what's the purpose of this experiment then?

Many people have been living off Bitcoin for years by now, but they don't post twits and posts telling the public how they converted a few satoshi in the morning and spent the proceeds in the bar at night (where "good morning means goodbye"). Apart from some Tokyo Girl ("you've got the moves to rule the world") aiming at publicity stunt and looking for cheap popularity, I don't see any particular purpose in this "Bitcoin Survival Challenge". You can just order a Bitcoin payment card and get done with that. As simple as it gets, but maybe, it is just me, after all

I agree with almost all the points which you have made. But at the same time, there is no harm in doing these gimmicks. If she is able to attract a few middle aged Japanese male businessmen to the Bitcoin sector, then what is wrong with that?

This is the most controversial part

Why would they want to use Bitcoin apart from going after some girl, really? Men do a lot of stupidest things in this regard, for example, rob banks (or just buy jewelries when they don't need to rob banks), but will it have any lasting effect? What about female businessmen (businesswomen) then? Should we equip some macho with a bunch of bitcoins and send him to a male strip club to advertise for Bitcoin?

This is a good news since bitcoin was already accepted in Japan as a form of payment in exchange for goods and services many merchants are now popping out and posted outside their shops the words "bitcoin is accepted here". If you have bitcoins then it is also good to accept such challenge since that would be fun. Bitcoin will become a good commodity that can function as a currency and Japan had made it possible.

Its awesome to have a counterpoint to china's crypto involvement(even if its been there for a long time and normie btc users like myself never noticed).

Wonder if japan with its microchip savvy might enter ASIC design & production at some point in time.

AFAIK japan's electronics design and chip lithography are very good. They could have the capacity to produce next generation ASIC chips if they decided to pursue that goal

Mining in its present form is dead already

I mean with all that expensive mining hardware. In fact, it is dead even twice. As I would say, it is dead conceptually, and if something doesn't get changed on its own (in a evolutionary way), it will be changed forcefully (in a revolutionary way). But it is already dead on purely technical grounds as well, there is no more room left to increase hash rates due to technological limits. You can't indefinitely raise CPU frequencies (in a meaningful way), it is basically the same with asics. Further increasing their capacity would require enormous capital but that simply doesn't make sense. In short, asics mining is at a dead end from both sides of the stick

I have long been wondering if/when some of the big chip makers (Samsung Electronics, Toshiba, etc.) have not gotten in to making ASIC chips for Bitcoin.

It would seem to me that Samsung or Toshiba would be in a position to make MILLIONS of these chips a dominate the space.

Maybe the economics don't justify it yet (BTC market too small?).
