https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-bitcoin-foundation-113400  the bitcoin foundation was announced today. I am going to have a chat to them about handing over the "charity" account as I mentioned in the OP. For now I have added the foundation to the donation list.

Im not sure if Gavin is continuing the testing project or not so the foundation may simply replace that one.

Last week our holding of OBSI.HRPT  sold because its likely that its some kind of ponzi scheme and funds reinvested in another security.
I dont think that deserves support given the pirate debacle.
So we ended up paying .05 to 4 addresses this week.

what is your exposure to pirate?

 Grin someone had to ask.

LOL

I cant prevent people sending pirate shares to the account but so far the only ones related to pirate are YARR. I dont know about OBSI.HRPT but he hasn't said its pirate related.

We can't know if he (OBSI.HRPT) is pirate related. The main problem I see with him is that he says he's a pass through for an unknown service. As he doesn't tell us where the money is in, he can claim at ANY time the "entity" defaulted and the money is gone. I don't care if others get their bitcoins with him, but he won't get a satoshi from me.

I dont invest in him either with my personal coins for that same reason. Its entirely his choice whether he tells people how he makes his money though. I do hope its not harming anyone though.

OBSI.HRPT is a strange one. I own 1 share just to keep it on my radar, but the guy really needs to give out more information if he wants people to trust him.

This looks interesting. Any chance the charity could be used to pay people to work on core bitcoin? If so, then I may toss in some coin since block-chain compression needs to be addressed.

I would like to see something like that happen but what I need is a list of features in order of importance and a corresponding donation address to contribute to. Once I have that I can split the dividends and contribute to different bounties or even issue an asset and let people vote through motions on where to send the coins next.

Edit: See the "bitcoin testing project" in the next post.

@bitcoin.me
Would you like to discuss what those funds would be spent for? I'd like to donate, but I want to be sure that your plans are consistent with mine so to speak  Smiley

Its pretty specific.
The first 5 bitcoins raised will be donated to Gavin's bitcoin faucet to replace the ones that were stolen.

After that dividends will go to other free faucets and  http://bitcoin100.org/

The only other projects it would go to are ones that  promote bitcoin itself.

Roll Eyes

Is this not acceptable ? There arent that many which rely only on donations. If you have any other ideas I would like to hear them.

I guess he'd like an explicit list of faucet sites to which donations will be made.

Im not aware of that many.
http://paperco.in/faucet.php

If people think its a good idea I will setup an actual asset on glbse, but that seems like an un needed extra cost.

My suggestion is to do this later, when you have more money.

Donated some shares of my companies too~ good luck

No you dont have to buy shares in anything just use the transfer feature.

This is why I was asking for the BTC deposit address. The way it is now only issuers of shares can donate.

No you can also transfer bitcoins through glbse. I just created a bitcoin deposit address at 1HNhEsFJFjnipSwguuFmTFVtz5eGmX4n4J  so you dont need a glbse account.

Beat me to it didn't see your post.  I think there is room for more than one charity fund as mine it not solely raising for bitcoin project itself..  If I ever run out of time for my own fund I'll give whatever raised to your fund.  Good luck.

"charity" has  a specific purpose of promoting bitcoin itself. I dont want to pick winners and losers as far as other charities goes thats the job for the bitcoin100.

Some time ago Gavin's account was hacked and 5 bitcoins were stolen. http://gavintech.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/bitcoin-faucet-hacked.html

Because of this I have decided that the first 5 bitcoins we raise will be sent to his site at https://freebitcoins.appspot.com/

I am also looking for free (not ad supported) faucets that need support. If you find any let me know!

This is an account I setup on GLBSE after a suggestion from Sukrim. The idea is that any coins or shares sent to this account will be used to donate to various faucet sites and the bitcoin100, or future bitcoin promotional activities. I sent 7 COGNITIVE shares to it already.

If bitcoins get donated I will use them to get more shares that pay dividends and in turn be able to fund more donations. I intend to eventually hand over this account whenever a bitcoin foundation exists at some point in the future.

The glbse account to donate to is called "charity"

Edit:As there are currently no administration costs I take nothing out of the pot. I will probably only need to send out dividend coins once per week and that is a one minute job. If someone wants to donate a free website maybe on google apps that would be good.

If you dont have a glbse account I setup a deposit address at 1HNhEsFJFjnipSwguuFmTFVtz5eGmX4n4J any coins sent here will buy some shares probably in companies who have already donated some Smiley

What will the funds be used for ?
The dividends will get distributed amongst the faucet, the bitcoin100  http://bitcoin100.org and the bitcoin testing project https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/announce-bitcoin-testing-project-80019

We will also contribute to bounties from time to time for important bitcoin related development work.
