If there was ever a case to use Bitcoin I think this takes it!

http://www.arcticstartup.com/2013/09/05/paypal-freezes-mailpiles-crowdfunded-cash

Seems like it's every other day PayPal gets a bad write up. I hate them as a company and hope everyone else sees the light!

The only issues I've ever had with paypal was the tax forms and selling digital MMORPG goods..

Paypal is paradise for buyers.  For sellers?  Not so much.

I don't understand the bad wrap against PayPal here. People simply don't understand that if you break their rules then you are at risk of losing your money. When you successfully create an account at PayPal without accepting their terms, then and only then do you have any right to bitch about PayPal for whatever reasons.

Something is wrong when they dont need court orders to be even able to chargeback transactions  Tongue

Avoid PayPal like plague

This was totally justified on Paypals part. This was about protecting their customers from fraud. Nothing else.

Earning interest on frozen funds seems to be part of their business model.
Avoid paypal, use bitcoin.
I think you are on to something here. The original business model PayPal was going to use had them making their money only on the float. Then came the fees and now apparently hostage taking.
Bitcoin for the win!

They shot themselves in the other foot a few weeks back:

http://venturebeat.com/2013/08/22/paypal-freezes-35k-donation-to-fund-treatment-for-a-cancer-patient/

unfrozen now, but lots of bad press for such ignorant draconian behavior.

Last week PayPal blocked the account of GlassUp, a Google Glass competitor that was raising money on Indiegogo. GlassUp had raised $100,000 of a $150,000 goal and PayPal informed project founder Franceso Giartosio that he would only release “a tiny amount of the funds” until final delivery of the product — funds that Giartosio needed to deliver the products.

Wow, I can't believe they would do that. It sounds like a greedy thing to do.

Same here

  • Raise money for a project
  • Paypal refuses to give you the money until final delivery of the product
  • wtf

maybe they are taking the money to pay for big withdrawals from other people :-)

How else do you think paypal is such a big & rich company?

Because of big success of their service. But what goes up must go down one time

read the story where paypal store 700k from mojang :-)

For those too lazy to Google ;-P

Hopefully he'll have better luck than Something Awful did during its 2005 run-in with PayPal: After raising over $30,000 in nine hours to aid Red Cross efforts following Hurricane Katrina, SA's PayPal account was frozen for suspicious activity, ultimately resulting in all donated funds, minus service fees, being returned to donators.
