Ok, so basically this new attack protection says to anyone with a significant hashrate, "Fuck you".  What about pools with large hashrates (large in comparison to the GLD network)?  There are two main pools for GLD that I can see, what happens if one of those pools bumps over 51%?  Will they go into the ban list noted in the pdf and be forbidden to solve new blocks?  Likewise, What if an individual with 49% of the coins hashrate quits mining GLD and leaves another person who had 27% of the network now with over 51%?  Will they get banned from solving new blocks as well?

No, the new client has a built in mechanism which stops you from triggering the defense accidentally..

Essentially once you've mined 5 blocks in less than 10 minutes.. you'll get rejects until the 10 minutes is over before you can mine the 6th block(that is if no one beat you to it).

Only a modified/old client can trigger the defense.

Over 200 confirms and I still haven't gotten a transfer I made over 6 hours ago.  I made it from a 0.7.1.2 wallet to a 0.7.1.3 wallet on different computers.  I'm afraid to upgrade the other wallet at the risk of losing those coins from what other people are saying.  Losing coins is completely unacceptable.

The only way you can lose valid coins is by losing your wallet. There is no reason to fear upgrading. The people talking about losing coins were mining "magic coins" on their own chains when the network was segmented.

thanks for the brief explanation and sorry if I missed the document in an earlier post.  I will read up and post back any other questions I may have.

The Gold Standard of Digital Currency.
After 0.7.1.3 upgrade I deleted my local files (my wallet was empty anyway) and redownloaded the blockchain so everything is clean. I assume I am on the right chain now. I still got the block my CPU miner has found, 328 confirmations, transaction ID: 714f5b1d58f99cdf65b7a319150613b26024accae594e10a1060000eb0c02365

Still cgminer is giving nothing but rejects. From what I read here I am not the only one with that problem. Anyone who got cgminer to mine properly and tells us the settings?
Maybe the new protection is somehow triggered on the higher hashrate the GPU miner produces?

You can always verify whether you're on the correct blockchain by referring to the block explorer: http://gld.cryptocoinexplorer.com/

In regards to mining, the window for mining blocks is small, in that sense its more of a lottery system now than who's got the largest hash-power. We are still monitoring the network for irregularities but have been unable to confirm any definitive problems at this time.

Please stayed tuned as the developers will be reporting after they've had the opportunity to analyze and discuss their findings.

How does your network remain secure without a large group of stable miners?  Why would a miner want to mine a coin without knowledge of the profitability of said currency?  Maybe you could reveal some more details into how the new 51% attack protection is actually a good implementation for the coin.  What is this new factor besides describing it as a lottery?

Please refer to the 51% defense documentation in reference to your first question: http://gldcoin.com/documents/GoldCoin_0.7_51percent_defense_october_11_2013.pdf

Please note that the actual implementation is far more complex than the example (and covers even multipeer attacks). I may write more about it later(time allowing), after all these issues have been resolved.

With regards to your second question: Our new difficulty code will address the issue of inaccurate profitability/hashrate calculation so these problems should be addressed in the next update.

This new factor is not easily quantifiable hence making it difficult to explain except that the client will not permit more than 6 blocks in less than 10 minutes, regardless of what 6 blocks they are..
We go into a little more depth in the documentation mentioned above.

it seems everything is coming back stale. Looks like that new 51% attack defense is screwing up everything.

OK.

Block found and showed up in my wallet.
Available in 118 more blocks.
Pffffffffff.

Is anyone else having problems transfering?  I made a few transfers to another wallet on the latest update and they haven't come through yet.  It's been over an hour

Honestly looks like something fishy is going on behind the scenes.

Im sure someone must have known everyone would loose 1000's of GLD from updating the client, but yet no mention.

We would have no motivation to do that. Please remember that this is experimental software. Thank you.

MicroGuy why would delete the messages, from yesterday were produced 640 block, 590 block have been confirmed, and at one point they were all gone. Why did this happen?

Sorry. Maybe you were in the middle of an edit but the post made no sense to me. To answer your question, apparently you were on the wrong chain. I will ask the development team to confirm. Thank you for your patience.
that is, the coin return back

We were mining on wrong blockchains. Thats how we lost the coins.

This coin has seen the last of my hashing power.

2 days of wasted electricity...

Nothing but REJECTS!!.... Waste of time!!
