I beg to differ that notion.  Although all the other scrypt/sha-256 coins are called "altcoins" What makes an altcoin.. an altcoin? Merely because Bitcoin is viewed/recognized as the "official" cryptocurrency? Or is it just because Bitcoin came first and anything coming thereafter are all considered "altcoins"?  Why can't different crypto coin endw up to be each it's own?  If for some miraculous reason, S.Nakamoto decides to fab up another coin and call it "SatoshiCoin", is that considered another altcoin or something legit simply bonded by his words.  In that case, every other coins are called altcoin simply because it wasn't invented by Nakamoto-sensei, maybe.. no?
