Bitcointalk.org doesn't even show up on the first page.  As of this moment its not even number 1 on the SECOND PAGE.

Yes, something is definitely wrong with Google.

There is more to Bitcoin than bitcoins.

OK Now we're just being funny.

You have to admit the site has a WEALTH of information...

This is true, but it's not the whole truth. Lots of misinformation, scams, trolling, circlejerks, accusations, too. Essentially, the density of information here is low. Wiki has a much greater potential as an initiator for new users. If you want to help (and obviously you do), I suggest helping there.

good.

This forum is poison to Bitcoin.

The main project removed it from it's homepage for a reason.

Bitcoin is experimental. The reference client is beta software.  It is not ready for the mainstream.

Feel free to join the initiative to update this forum if you don't think it is what it should be.

Google has been a piece of shit ever since the penguin update earlier this year, it removed many good websites from the top ranking, I've been having much
trouble with searching on gogole. I've been using Bing for several months now, so far so good, much better results than google.

I have Web History turned off, so I never even get personalized results. Just the way it should be! IMO, at least.

Right. Who knows better what you are looking for, you or someone else?

the term "bitcoin?"

I get this forum as the fourth result on the first page (disreguarding the "news" section) when googling "bitcoin"

I also get this forum as the 4th result when I google "bitcoin".  I live in Alberta.
Dont use Chrome... and clean your cache, you're not seeing organic results

Ok, than I can guess you are using google Chrome.

But even if not, google track where you like to go, that you often go here, thus they put this site as relevant for you.

Bitcoin.org has a link to a google search for "bitcoin forums", this site is the first result on that search. Bitcoin.org is the first result on a google search for bitcoin. Problem solved.

in the internet industry, that is a fail. Sad

Google "james" and then google "james tylee"  ... I'd rather win with "james"

too much scary anarcho-capitalism and conspiracy talk in these forums, that's why  Cheesy

I also get bitcointalk.org on page 2 of the google search results, but with "bitcoin forums" it's the first result.

People should use more alternatives like duckduckgo.com anyway, the tenth or so result with https://duckduckgo.com/?q=bitcoin is the bitcointalk.org Marketplace section.  Huh

To call everything bitcoin related a scam.

Indeed, showing the truth is the main purpose of this forum!

(Slightly) more serious: If anyone new to bitcoin would find this site before all others and take an hour or so to read through it, I think the bitcoin-community would soon only have "veterands"  Lips sealed

Ok...then the seventh result on the first page.  Either way, I think repentance is right, and results are location dependant.

Not location dependent, Google will indeed display results based on watching your trends and searches, but thats localized to your habits.

Clear your cache and temp files.. you get true rankings.

Or just search duckduckgo.com (uses google results. bitcointalk is on first page there), or open an "incognito" tab and search through that. Google will tailor searches to your cookies, not your ip address (other than geo-location) afaik.

No proof for anyone, but I have seen reports that big G puts out different results for different areas.
