If you're a person that sees the future being with the government then you'll surely choose to work for them as the benefits are there but you've got lesser freedom IMHO. It's because you shouldn't make any mistakes on your end and even in your personal life. It's like whenever there's news that someone goes amok at a bar, the media will have that headline as "a government employee run amok in a bar". So you see that there's like an attachment whenever someone works for the government and gets into a controversy. Unlike in private companies, whatever happens to you will be kept personally and privately. I've just noticed that thing whenever I watch the news as there's always this classification if someone is from the government. As for me, whatever will help me to make ends meet, I'd be happy to that and whatever is making me happy to work for and gives me encouragement to go to job everyday, I'll be there.

It depends, like for me I will prefer a government job.
Here in my country government offer a quality pay for there workers, secondly the time spent on some government work in my country is just 5hrs, and government workers have the opportunity to engage on other work and business.
But in the private sector the work time might even take a whole day and with no quality pay. So I will prefer a government job

I think that the major determining factor here is how much either of the jobs will offer me.

If I can get a private job that pays double of what the government job offers, i will gladly choose the private job without a second thought about "life time employment" attached to the supposed government jobs

In the real sense, most private sectors pays higher and treat her employee better compared to the government  establishment.

Government job... for the right person. And Matt Gaetz seems to be one of the few right people in government. Note that even though Gaetz is taking the heat for being more honest, there were others who helped him. They, also, deserve some of the praise.

Understanding the Enormity of Matt Gaetz's Speakership Rebellion

https://libertysentinel.org/understanding-the-enormity-of-matt-gaetzs-speakership-rebellion/
Yet the moment somebody goes resolutely into the belly of that fetid beast and makes a genuine effort to change how things are done, so many of those same people are eager to condemn the individual for shaking things up.

This is precisely the reaction we are seeing from across the land, in the wake of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz successfully ousting California RINO Kevin McCarthy from the Speaker's chair. The castigation and condemnation of Gaetz has been immediate and "bipartisan," given that Establishment Republican players saw fit to decry and condemn him in terms they would never wield against the leftist Democrats.

Booting McCarthy was a first in the history of our Constitutional Republic. And that in itself says much about what is fundamentally wrong inside the D.C. Swamp. For starters, do people really believe that McCarthy was the first and only Speaker to ever have been recognized by the Congress as unfit to hold that position?

In particular, the massive programming of new politicians by the D.C. political machine, to "go along and get along," has been enormously beneficial to the efforts of the elites inside the Beltway to shield themselves from any true reckoning from those ignorant peasants back home. Even individuals who are basically good intentioned, quickly themselves sucked into the "system" once they arrive at the halls of power (and money). From that point forward too many are unable to sufficiently buck the current to actually get anything worthwhile accomplished.

The notion of all this being "fixed" by term limits is itself misbegotten. Even if the enormous effort required to enact a constitutional amendment stipulating term limits ever succeeded, the "Swamp" would quickly regroup. It needs only to gather a line-up of new corrupt political players to occasionally replace the old ones, and "business as usual" can continue with barely a hiccup.

I personally wouldn’t want to work a government job, as it would feel more like stealing than earning a living to me since everything is paid for by the taxpayer and most government employees produce little of anything. Creating a business and employing people in the private sector on the other hand is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

As they said, government job is better compare to private job because it is permanent and pensionable and the job is more secured. Though private job too some are pensionable but not permanent and not that secured. And again in private job, you have the opportunity to let them know how much you want to be paid. You can either be paid higher or lower base on how you present yourself.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?

Personally, I would choose to work for the government. Even in government employment, your compensation may be determined by the certification you hold, and not all private sector jobs positions give you the option to select the monthly salary you would receive. I've seen certain private employment where, if you don't like the amount they tell you you'll get paid each month, you have to accept it or give the work to someone else. I believe that if you work in private organization, you might not be able to leave work when you want to since there might not be someone to cover for you, so what would you do if you had an emergency at work and no one to help you? The benefit of working for the government is that there are always replacement employees available to help out. In this situation, I would definitely choose government employment for my own understanding as not all jobs in the private sector make sense.

Firstly, it is not determined on how you presents yourself but what you have to offer determines your net worth value.
On a preferred choice if to work on a private or government sector, the condition and how much involved would first be considered but if on equal tasks, I would go for government before there is definitely going to be a less pressury tasks and there would be benefits of breaks such as the holidays and the weekends free work days and also, considering the pension and my retirement for a long time goal of source of finances after retirements.

Yes, it is true that working in the government is the dream of many people in various countries, with a fairly stable income and having a pension fund, many people are hunting to get it. With the situation the country is facing like Covid yesterday, working in the government means that people don't panic and there will be no dismissals.

It's different from working in a private company, someone must think about the impact on their fate of continuing to work at the company or the company management to terminate their employment relationship, if the company's finances continue to decline. If you still survive until the specified age, what you say is true, even though you get pension funds, it makes people think quickly about managing their money when they receive the pension funds if we no longer work at the company.

Depends on the context of your country and it's economy, to be honest.
There are countries where people would rather to work for a private company and others where a work with the government is more appealing.

I have received some offers from both, but it is very situational what you will choose here in this country. Private companies offer a better salary, but their schedules are very grinding and can mess with the health of people. Government jobs tend to be more lax, pay less but you got more time to do your own things.

Depending on what  our needs are, we will end up choosing one.

Also, I have always wondered who good is to work for the government in countries like the United States and Europe. I assume salaries are better than average.

As you said, it depends on the context of the country, and answering your question, in Spain, and I think that in Europe in general, the average salary working for the Government is much higher in almost all levels (except for Chiefs, due to do the imbalance in the private sector because of greed, and the vocation of public service in the public sector).

Of course, there are exceptions, but functionaries are known in general to have a better quality of life. That's why some of the most prepared ones study for months or years for the official exam, and that's why it's said that access to these jobs is based on merit and capacity, and not on how you present yourself, as the OP said very well for the private companies.

Government jobs are the best especially the salaries are high compared to private but that's not always the case because, in some other parts of the world, private companies are giving more money and some good benefits to their employees. Here in our country, you don't want to be working in the private sector because you will end up regretting it to the point you will not last longer than 3 months. that's why most of us choose to be businessmen instead of becoming slaves to those companies.

I prefer working for the government. I accept that government pay are low, but we cannot compare them to private jobs because the government provides the security and is permanently pensionable, and is more secure. Just that private jobs paid more than government jobs but still depended on position, there are some sectors where you won't even receive peace of mind and they will pay you less without freedom, and you can be fired at any time. He simply stated that some people apply for private jobs since they have no other options.

You are correct in regards of the uncertainty of private jobs. It is easier to get fired because of minors situations or even because of the whim of your boss. Also, working hours can be harsher when compared to government jobs. Your boss in a private company reserves the right to call you at any time to ask you to do something from your computer or send a document to him (it is something which has personally happened to me).

For a first time job, I would suggest professionals to try first a job with the government, before jumping onto a private company. It can also help to accumulate experience and curriculum.

From what you've given it's like government job was the highlighted one that will be favored to. TBH I'm not into government job but for me there are lot of advantageous things when you're into private job but what's the most advantageous is having you as the boss like having a business. Though it's risky, it's worth it as well if you know what you're venturing. I'm into the latter and I will pursue it.

And another thing is they're easier than the corporate and private jobs.

Though private job too some are pensionable but not permanent and not that secured. And again in private job, you have the opportunity to let them know how much you want to be paid. You can either be paid higher or lower base on how you present yourself.
It's true because in government jobs, there's a certain allocation that's given to post and the increase will vary if the budget allocated will also increase.

But many have learned with the private sectors and jobs there that even they say that you're in a permanent position, this past years through pandemic have taught us that jobs aren't permanent.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?
These days, many are choosing to get into side hustles because you own your time and you can do much within 24 hours unlike with government and private jobs that you're tied to work 8 A.M to 5 P.M. or any timeframe for that 9 hour schedule for job of yours.

IMO, as long as it brings food to the table and you love what you're doing then that's more important to choose. Because when you love your job regardless if it's from a private company or from the government, nothing beats being happy while working and there's no toxicity.

Private jobs pay more, but goverment job is more stable. The best probably would be day work at government, and then private job, for example, Bitcointalk forum moderator at evenings.

This is funny. Is bitcointalk forum moderator as evening job? I mean you don't really have to classify it as job except maybe for side job because moderators would have other diversified source of income. But meanwhile, I don't think private jobs don't pay more than government jobs. I consider business more lucrative than being either of the employees.

It depends.
What job you want? Do you have a degree on something or are you experienced in something specific? I mean what are your skills?

If you prefer security, i would say a government job unless you negotiate yourself a good job in private sector and you are an union member. Benefits on governement is giving are probably way easier to get then from private sector. But if you want to go somewhere with your career, your changes with private sector are higher. It's no guarantee of anything and you might not get a promoton ever in there either.

Also i am assuming you are from USA as in some countries even private sector has to offer way better benefits than in USA for example. At the moment in my country i would take a governent job as future looks more bleak.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this one; it really comes down to the benefits and how secure you feel while working. For most of us, it's all about that steady salary because, let's face it, no one wants to work until the end of time. We all have dreams of retiring when the time is right, and we want to make sure we get the perks we've earned.

Speaking of stability, I'd place my bet on the government jobs. They're not likely to go bankrupt anytime soon since they rely on taxes from the people. It's a different story in the private sector, where things can get a bit wobbly when the economy takes a decline.

Government jobs provide more stability, job security& benefits. Private jobs tend to offer more flexibility, higher potential for growth & innovation also potentially higher salaries. The choice depends on individual preferences, career goals & your personal circumstances. It's important to consider factors such as work life balance, job satisfaction, career advancement opportunities&personal values when deciding between the two.
