GPU mining will NEVER be profitable ever, even if BTC goes up to $1000-$2000.
During the last quarter of last year, there were thosands of GPU being brought into the market, these GPUs will turn on once BTC rises and keep difficulties high and profits low.
The days of
$10/MHASH/BTC are long gone.
Quite a few of those GPUs / rigs got sold off, or are in the active process of being sold off. They are not being held in reserve.
Just like a couple years ago when BTC asics crushed the fpga / GPU scene for BTC, the same is happening now for Scrypt. People at those times sold their BTC GPU farms, just like they are now.
Some time in the future there will be another "Scrypt" type algo that comes out and makes GPU mining viable again...and we will again see the GPU crush we say earlier this year.
Mark my words, the cycle never ends.
