Update:

Purchases will not be started on the following pools:

  • BitMinter
  • A1bitcoinPool

These pools have trouble with block notifications and cause stale/reject rates higher than 2%.

As I have said in the past, we do sleep and don't yet trust the system to run purchases on its own overnight.  So if your purchase doesn't run its because either we are backed up or we are asleep.

You are not banned from anything.

Only trying to confirm that what I did was not an infinite loop before purchase was activated.  Thanks.

Is it that simple though?  How often are you paid $10 per hour by person X so that you may work a job and deposit $8 an hour into his bank account?  Because that's what *appears* to be happening here...

Now, neither of these address the "we make lots of money buying shares" secret... I won't spoil that for everyone...

At some point, the "we have a secret technique" people are going to begin to sound like the people who create a book that spills the beans on how to get rich quick that in the end, explain the secret is to merely write a book wherein a secret is promised and the author promises it will sell like hotcakes.  Kind of an infinite loop.

Speaking of infinite loops, I fear that I may have just banned myself.  The IRC channel is dead and my payment for purchased shares is about to reach 6 confirmations.  I am mining for public work and unleased shared go to Eligius.  I had a disconnected worker with a funny title that I forgot about.  I purchased shares and picked the pool from the drop down that that worker would work on if I were mining it, Slush.  Have I just royally messed up?

Or is the infinite loop problem here where I create a pool that goes to gpumax.com with my workers username and password, and purchase shares to mine it?

I really don't want to be banned, so if this can get cleared up, I'd appreciate it.

Pirate40,

Are you sure it is recovered? I am having trouble to connect to your pool.

It really depends on what person X is getting out of it...   Does he have some type of fetish where he gets his jollies watching you do his job?  Is he addicted to gambling, and finds that he can't scratch off enough lotto tickets by himself?  So he goes out and hires you to help, even though odds say long term he's gonna lose money?  Hey, he just might get lucky and you find that 50k winner ticket for him.....

In both the above cases, I can see it making perfect sense for someone to pay you $10/hour to do $8/hr of work...

Now, neither of these address the "we make lots of money buying shares" secret... I won't spoil that for everyone...   I just wanted to point out that if you get creative, there are all kinds of reasons why one might do something that seems illogical at the surface.

I'm simply asking for an explanation of what many seem to have figured out.

It is not that hard to figure out there are people out there who are willing to pay good money to have hashing power they don't have mining for them to get BTC, we get to share in the extra BTC gained that they are willing to pay due to the system setup at this pool it is that simple.

Update:

Our load balancing DC has had a hardware failure that has the system down.  They're working on the issue right now but no ETA at this point.  We'll be adding additional layers of load balancing sooner than later now to prevent this from happening again.

We are very sorry for the downtime and working as quickly as possible to get things back up and running.

If you cannot trust it then there are plenty of other places to mine and with the amount of whining little bitches on this forum you would know by now if anything funny was going on they would be out in force..

If we were using our hashing power to be destructive... you would know by now. Smiley

Your references are impeccable; I checked that before I joined. Mostly, I'm simply curious. But to an extent I try to rely on trust as minimally as possible - that's the whole point of Bitcoin - a currency that doesn't require trust. I have no intention to leave GPUMAX, nor do I believe it remotely likely that the hashing power is being used for nefarious purposes, but that doesn't diminish my inquisitiveness. I'm simply asking for an explanation of what many seem to have figured out - not accusing you of anything.

What is the total hash power of GPUMAX right now anyway? There isn't really any way to tell.

Ah, yes...  and we will keep it that way. Smiley

I certainly would like to learn, and I hope someone would be willing to help. Brooding on it for a while brought me naught but the above.

Who cares it is what it is we are getting paid for our hashing power as long as it is not used for malicious purposes I'm fine with it..

You may be; I'm curious, and I'd like to be my own judge of what are and are not malicious purposes.
