Sources very closed to Greece’s minister of finance told Greek Reporter that today Yanis Varoufakis held a top secret meeting with high-ranking finance ministry officials to prepare them in case negotiations at the upcoming Eurogroup fail. The anonymous source noted that everybody in the room was staring at each other when Varoufakis – also a prominent blogger – said “We ‘ll go to Bitcoin, we will be ahead of all the world economies and although it may be painful in the beginning, Greece’s economy will thrive in the long term.”
Boom

I dont know why but my brain was very ready to fall for this when i saw the thread title! good job april fools.

OK... so it was an April fool hoax. But still, let us count the positives. Varoufakis himself tweeted the news, which gave Bitcoin even more publicity. Large number of ordinary Greeks would be searching about Bitcoin right now.

The reason I posted this was it was on my google news... surprised they let this through... no intention of fooling anyone
So you really believe that this was an actual news? You knew april's fools is today but Greece accepting bitcoins as their national currency it is a little too much.
I wish that only 1 of 20 of todays news were true... So much hype na positive energy.  With just one news like that Bitcoin price would be past $500 on the road to $1000 already.

LOL April fools obviously Yanis Varoufakis and their team don't have the balls to be the Bitcoin pioneers of the world, unfortunately.

While Greece’s lenders are pushing the Greek government to accept their terms in order to allocate funds so the country will not go bankrupt, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis seems to have another ace up his sleeve. The second top thinker in the world according to prospect magazine surprised even his closest aids at a secret meeting when he said “We ‘ve had enough, we ‘ll run on Bitcoin.” - See more at: http://greece.greekreporter.com/2015/04/01/yanis-varoufakis-greece-will-adopt-the-bitcoin-if-eurogroup-doesnt-give-us-a-deal/#oo
