BOINC already hosts non-science projects.
Moo Wrapper for one example (cryptography, NOT science).
GRC is intended to reward work done on BOINC projects though, and it doesn't seem likely that will change.

BOINC can be used for any sort of computations, not only science-related. If you need some computing power, nothing stands in your way to create a BOINC project, even if it's commercial and for profit.Check here for more details:

Very frustrating coin...
BOINC is great, but GRC is like schoolboys prank: wallet crashes, no magnitude, diagnostics tool is a joke and so on and on...
