The 290x is faster than the 970 with the wolf0 miner, on some algos.

isn't wolfo miner private? you need to pay for it, therefore is useless to talk about it

Not all of them.

still skeptical about that, i'm really curious if they can beat nvidia on consumption, without undervolting  Cheesy

It's do or die situation for AMD , profits are sinking , management is bad and in the end , competition is good for customers.

Neither because I'm waiting for more power efficient gpus to come.  But if I had to choose right now, probably the 970 because of overall efficiency and growing miner support

AMD 300 Series will be launched soon and claims to have lower power consumption and better performance.
but probably higher price tag...

They will have to price it competitively if they want to gain the market that they have already lost to Nvidia.

GTX 980 if possible.
Either way, you ain't going to make much with one GPU, go with four or five and make a few cents.

Make a few cents if power is free.  GPU mining is just a hobby these days unless you can overcome power costs.

2x GTX 960 will produce more hash than GTX 970 Huh
But more expensive. I would take 2 GTX 970

lol what advise is this, 2 970 are even more expensive

1 970 to start mining is enough imho, 980 is also bad in compariso as it cost to much for a little gain over a 970, and in gaming also , not worth it at all

What I meant : two 960 have not a better perf/price than GTX 970 (especially in europe where GTX 960 > 200 euros, and we can find some GTX 970 at 300 euros (but price is increasing due to $/euro fx rate).
Yes begining with a GTX 970 is probably the most reasonable idea. You can add once later on.

If you add in the cost of motherboard, CPU, HDD and memory card. You will find out that GTX 970 is a better deal as motherboard slot is fixed to 4 or 6 depending on your motherboard.

GTX980 is king in Spreadcoin. 5500-5600Khash easily (open tsiv miner b2)
GTX970 is around 4200khash max

This makes $$/ hash the GTX970 around 30% more efficient to use for a build.

R9 280X / R9 290X will generally use 50-60% more WATTS for around same hash depending on the coin.
Also, its hard to find a good double ball bearings equipped AMD except for ref design, which is 60-70dBA

I am pretty convinced to buy a GTX 970. Will not start witk multiple GPU but will be mining as it seems funny
