How can I check if i have mined anything? do i just have to wait for these "blocks" I might of mined to be confirmed? ./bitcoind getimmaturebalance does nothing. thank you

k, I have done everything in putty. the last thing in that I done was ./bitcoind setgenerate true 3
How do I see what I am doing? I went on the webpage to my console but now I gotta log in again on a black screen, doesn't accept my details. am i going in the right direction? ok it does accept my details but I have to go through the whole process again.
