Well I get you when you said something about spamming and no useful info to be added but to me I see this post as something to motivate some users on how to drop a quality post, as you can see OP talked about merits and you have no idea how newbies are craving for it to grow their account to the next rank.
Why do you need merits?. Is it to rank up?, Why do you need to rank up yoir account?. The thread is indeed old but it doesn't need to get bumped without adding more information regarding the topic. If you are thinking how do I share the thread to ither newbies then the answer is simple which is to copy the link and send it to the person who you want to send it to. Isn't that simple enough?. I am sure they will find this thread if they will make a research.

I wonder how come they come across such old threads and try to bump it without any useful information added.This post he has replied to must be so many pages back but still he come across it without even noticing the warning he might have seen above posting area that you are trying to bump very old thread and this has not been replied from so many days but still he continues with posting it.The newbies should look into these small details without blind posting and bumping up such old threads as they just increase more spam posting on forum.

This thread might be old but the information can never get old at all. If you take a good look at some of the information you'd know how important it is for newbies even some other high ranked members still need this information too to add to the ones they know, nothing is wrong with this thread. I believe, what aysg76 is saying could be considered another advice for newbies for getting more merits on the forum. Keeping attention and being topic-focused is the direct path to it. And when users don't pay enough attention to what topics they're replying to, how relevant their post is to the community and to the OP, then it feels like they're posting for the sake of posting. And it's hard to earn merits like that.

OP this post is a real burner not just for newbies but every member that's seeking for guidance and directions on how to grow so well not only in ranks but also in knowledge of the resource the forum holds. Am impressed by this, and among other things OP has addressed I would like to shed  more lights on bounty participation by newbies subsequent to the quick cash that bounty hunting offers with no ranking restrictions.

Not to condemn bounty hunting entirely but a waste of energy and time for someone that dreams big. Why settle in catching  small fishes when actually you can put in a little more efforts and start catching the bigger ones with less stress afterwards. Bounties wouldn't make you look productive to the forum, whereas it's the more productive you become the more you earn merits that ranks you up.
LEARN not to settle for the less!

Writing quality posts addressing real issue and targeting the audience of perceived merit source is a sure bet. And ensure when you're writing to get the community involved, the minimum details required is included in your posts.
Creating constructive and useful posts is very important to keep our account free from spam. However, making constructive and useful posts is not easy, because we also need sufficient knowledge and understanding of the topics discussed. Therefore, we need to continue to learn and develop ourselves in order to be able to make a useful contribution to readers.

The most important thing in my opinion, expecting merit from the forum is not our main goal in making constructive posts. Instead, focus on providing readers with useful and valuable information. Merit or awards from the forum will come by itself if we are consistent and continue to make good contributions.

<...>For #1 learning another language and becoming proficient are admirable goals, but you can also do fine posting in your local boards.
Up to a certain degree... For example, on my local Spanish board, I consider it is not too dificult to get merited, but the expectancy there is to be merited by one person and one merit per merited post.
Today I wanted to incentivate my local board by publishing a list with the 22 people that had ranked-up at some point needing merits to do so, having been merited on the Spanish local board at some point.

I tried to see the positive side to it, being that people are ranking-up there. Nevertheless, the negative aspects are pretty clear too: 22 people is a measly figure. Of those, only 5 have received all their merit on the Spanish local board. The remaining 17 post on the regular English boards, and if you want to go above the Member rank, this board emigration process is nearly a must in order to do it at a decent pace (see the list on re:El tema de los meritos).

Good to know that you have a good local boards which is your boards have a generous merit source and not just merit source but you have a normal user like you that circulate the merits in your local and also you have many active forum member that live in your country too. And they cooperate well and that's a good job. Keep up the good work.
And Op you got me this time you are right that everyone of us must know our universal language and the correct grammar in order to be suits in community.

Am I the only one who thinks it is unfair that the English adaptation of this topic got OP 19 Merits while this is just a translation of the manual created by Slavyanskiy who received only 1 Merit

Yes, you are.
You wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been revived in the first place by a shit poster, so just let it go.
And, in case you didn't notice, the user you mentioned has been inactive since 2019, so why bother with an account that has been abandoned by its owner?

Quote
(from me, I don't have more sMerits) after I checked the original thread?

Then all you have to do is bookmark the page so that when you have smerit, you can return to it and leave some for the original post.

Quote
Doesn't this violate copyright? And maybe  the original post also deserves Merits from those, who merited the English adaptation and from the OP of this topic?

Op acknowledged the original post; he did not simply create the thread and present it as his own; instead, he included a link to the Op.

So many people always be inquisitive of earning merit when they are newly registered in the forum, actually the aspect been constructive in English language is one of the criteria that motivate or activates people to give users merit, but the prominent thing for someone to earn a merit should be making proper research that will educate people for what they never come across, with research and observation people will give you merit because what you put in writing is unknown to everyone, like example, Lordhermes initiated the ideas of poem method of composition in the forum and every other person emulated Lordhermes, so he earned numerous merit with the poem, so with your own ideas developed you can earn merit unexpectedly.

4. Be original and unique.
Do not repeat what has already been said. if necessary, add a link to the source in your post.
No need to put ( if ). It's always necessary to add the link of the source in the posts or else it will be called plagiarism as we all know. By the way this is what I like the most being original and unique in terms of posting. When posting it is important to check your post before posting if there's any mistyped words or mistakes, why? Users might find it hard to understand your point or topic you made.
I think it’s not that necessary to add link…as many don’t even care of it but still get merit points..
So it was necessary to have  “if” in the article the guy wrote
I was perplexed to have seen the subject of the thread but, when I looked as to how long ago the thread was created and even the last comment on the thread before yours @musa_scorpion which dates back to 2018, i wonder why you had to whip those dead horse of over 5years just to point out a well established fact though.
You didn't break any rules though but, I felt you must have been warned to be posting in a thread that haven't been posted in for a long time and to spell out the word "if" must have been pretty important to beat this dead horse. Okay!
When I saw the post, I thought that it would recieve some kinds of attack from some forum members. When I wasn't seeing any attack, I had to go check the date the topic was created and it dated back to 2018. Which means there were no much attacks then when someone posts anything about merits. This could be because the merit system was newly introduced then, it will be helpful seeing any thread that discuss it.

These days if someone of lower rank create such a post, many people will attack him and accuse him of merit fishing altogether.

3. Write quality posts.
Become a quality poster. Remember that these are not necessarily long, boring posts.
It can be: qualitative answers or questions, themes created by you,

4. Be original and unique.

Yes, these two are good points to helping one grow fast on your forum journey, in as much as only if he or she is focus and determine to make such a reality, because in a forum such as this with thousands of users, the only way to stand out is by creating quality post, being a good poster, adding value to the forum and assisting people in need by providing solution to whatever issues they might be facing, which in return you stand the chance of been rewarded with merit as a way of appreciation.

A guide for getting +Merit.

With the introduction of the new Merit system, many people have a question:
"And how do I raise my rank?"
This topic will provide you with an answer to the difficult question.

Here are the basic steps:

1. English language.
Learn and improve your English language, its spelling and grammar.
The Duolingo service will help you in this.
Also, try not to use such words as: Sir. & Mr., many do not like it.

2. Knowledge is power.
Plunge into the sea of knowledge about crypto-currencies, keep abreast of the latest trends and updates.
Study popular topics on the forum and improve your knowledge and skills.
First of all, such topics as: Bitcoin Discussion, Development & Technical Discussion.
Also read all the topics that received the most amount of sMerit: Top-merited topics, all-time.
Read all the fixed topics in the English branch.
You should understand the meaning of such phrases as: Bitcoin Pizza Day (the original post Pizza for bitcoins?), 2011 bubble, Cyprus,
HODL (a little history of I AM HODLING) etc.
Also dont miss Bitcoin FAQ.

3. Write quality posts.
Become a quality poster. Remember that these are not necessarily long, boring posts.
It can be: qualitative answers or questions, themes created by you,
help other forum participants (for example TwitterAudit - Check your twitter for fakes - , then guys do a free audit, and some give merit),
you can create something that can be useful and something that will be appreciated (for example. Activity points calculator)
etc.

4. Be original and unique.
Do not repeat what has already been said. if necessary, add a link to the source in your post.

5. Catch fish in fishy places.
There are interesting topics, where for certain actions or answers give Merit.
Here are some of them:
A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin - ask questions, you answer and earn Merit.
Merit System Upgrade;
Topic & Post Review - sMerit to give;
The Utmost Epic, Totally Tubular sMerit Giveaway;
Joel_Jantsen's Merit Distribution Thread (Newbies Welcome);
Bitcoin Forum Puzzle;

6. Give up the less for more.
Keep your participation in Bounties programs to a minimum. Initially, it can be hard financially, however, in time, raising the rank, you will earn much more. Believe me, it's worth it.

7. Purposefulness.
Set a goal, this motivates and will help to go in front. Make a plan and act.
At the same time, Merit is not the goal itself, the priority is to create quality content that will become a source of merit.
(bitmover set the goal to get 100 Merit before the activity is 120 and easily reached its goal: 101 merit and 84 activity!)

8. Activity in business will lead you to success.
Taking an active part in the life of the forum and helping it develop, you will easily raise your rank, and most importantly get knowledge that will bring you pleasure and material prosperity.

This topic is an English adaptation. Original: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-3741951

Thank you for attention!
Thanks OP, this is helpful to the newbie and also me that can improve my post i will note this. it's so important to have knowledge like grammar or something else, you just helped this community you will also learn what the other people says so thankyou for this post OP, have a great day !

Forget about his necro bump. He clearly suggesting a plagiarism for not attaching link when copying someone post. His knowledge for plagiarism is limited to article alone and not words given by other forum user here.

Necro bump is not an offense but bumping a long dead thread with a wrong information is consider as spam posting which is against the rule. Probably he is searching for ways to earn merit then post on the first thread that appears on the result without looking the date of the thread.

This is very helpful for our newbie. To be honest, merit is very unfriendly to newbie. I just read the rank rules of the forum. I think that for a newcomer like me, I want to get 10 merits and then become Member takes a lot of time and may take more than 2 years.

The only things you can do to rank up from newbie have been mentioned in this thread, and I believe if you follow the rules of the forum and make good or quality posts or have a perfect interaction you will rank up that you can't imagine. Having merit to rank up from newbie to full member is not something difficult that will take you even a year, much less two years.
Not because I'm better than the newbies here we are all still learning but rather because I believe that everyone should respect the forum rules in order to attain their goals without stress.

I respect your opinion. If someone is willing to put in the effort and learn to put out a well written posts in a second or third language more power to them. I myself have lost most of my ability to put together a coherent conversation in french and have resigned myself for now to just reading a bit. I just don't want people thinking "I can string together 6 words in English I should post everywhere now".

Unfortunately I feel the problem with your local, is regulation. We both know that a post worthy of it should be able to receive multiple meriters who can give what they feel it deserves. I admire the attempt to prevent Merit abuse(I'm assuming that is why there is the expectation). Perhaps you may want to consider urging the removal of that "expectation" and encourage responsible meriting practices, but in the end it's up to the members.

I haven't bothered looking into it in a while, as I stopped caring about others and their merits. I had observed a few members with a surprising mount of merit, most of which was earned in their local boards. At the time I remember thinking must be nice to have a source within such a small group(passing thought with no research) I realise though not all locals have this source. Believe me I understand wanting to achieve a higher rank, especially now it feels like an accomplishment, but I don't think people need to be concerned with a timeline per say. Like I tell most people rank is really only beneficial if you want to earn money in Signature Campaigns.

What I would encourage any user with the time, patience and Smerit is open a post review thread in your local board. Finding these posts could either help a member apply for Merit Source status, or distribute their own in a focused manner.
