I cant seem to extract smos after download?
Windows tells me the compressed zip folder cannot be extracted because it is empty?

ive also noticed ATIFlash for bios mod doesn't work either for windows 1803.

Is the empty smos problem related to windows update too?

Yes, im having the same Problem. Without being able to see the USB drive on a windows machine, you cant edit the config.txt.
I have also tried pulling the usb drive up on another machine running ubuntu and cant find the config.txt file anywhere.
Does anyone know if there is a way to edit config.txt maybe through SSH?

How do i Remove / Reinstall SMOS from USB, if want to use as normal flash drive Again
i was using SMOS my 64 GB Kingston USB .one day it stooped working giving boot error.Now i want to remove/Format the USB but it is not possible because  the flashing tool of SMOS is saying that your device is locked.i used several USB format tools in windows.all ended up saying disk is write protected.i tried to remove write protection though Regedit command and CMD but no success.how do i get rid of this corrupted SMOS from my USB by formatting or how do reinstall it.pl help me in this regards.

Vosk, I have been following your videos very closely and started my first rig build.  It is an eight GPU 1050ti rig with the exact same hardware as the one you and Corbin built.

I am having issues with the USB after burning the Nvidia smOS.  I am using the 32GB USB 3.0 Lexar and 64GB USB 3.0 Lexar.

The USB is not recognized by the rig.

When plugging the USB into my PC I am prompted to format the USB and am also notified that the USB is having problems. 

I have tried formatting the USBs and reflashing with the smOS image several times on three different Lexar USB sticks.
All USBs when connected to a PC after flashing prompt a problem notification.  All three USBs sticks are not visible when plugged into the rig.


Any insight on fixing this would be greatly appreciated as I have my entire rig put together but dont have an operating system to run it!

Just ignore the fact windows says it has a problem and needs to be formatted

For the rig is it the only hard drive plugged in? SmOS is an OS so it’s stand-alone my rigs simply have a usb plugged into them / it’s not something you can use on top of windows unless you boot into the usb instead of booting into windows



Unplug your HDD/SSD, got to bios, make first boot option USB



I am having a similar issue. After writing the IMG file to USB it disappeared from my computer. It's there, but I have no way of accessing the drive to edit the config.

I'm using macOS to format and the USB is a Lexar 32GB 3.0 with Nvidia smOS on it.

I've been troubleshooting the connection but I think it might have to do with macOS. Can't even boot to USB because the drive is not recognized.

Any ideas/solutions?

I have seen that most RX 580s have diifculty getting recognized on Linux based OSes and you mostly have to run them on Windows.
I have 3 RX 580s running on windows right now but the power consumptions are ~150W per card for 29MH/s ETH and ~90MH/s LBR.

Would SimpleOS be good to try for better results? Just looking for an opinion on this from those who have tried.

Windows has biggest choice of coins and pools to mine.

Smos is easy and most of my rigs are smos. But I have three windows rigs

Hey Vosk,

How would you rate smOS compared to nvOC?

I'm up to 8 rigs now, all running nvOC and it can be a bit of a pain to manually tweak x8 1main and x8 3bash files.

Does smOS feature a central management console that it easier to manage a small farm?  What about rigs with mixed cards?  Can those be tweaked both individually and as a single group?

smos is easiest as it has the web portal so once you set up your rig groups (rig groups are your miner and config/pool settings) you just choose which rig group, save, and reboot the miner so it's done.
Agreed smOS was a good name it really is simple / easy / effective
