... My contention is that assault weapons and bombs are only good for military applications. Civilians have no need for them because they offer no substantial benefits and often become a heavy burden on the people.
I could fill the rest of this thread with countless examples that fit your criteria. The problem is who decides what is useful to me? What if that thinking were applied to bitcoins?

Guns don't keep people safe. Bombs keep people safe. Bombs win wars, not guns. We don't have nukular guns, we have nuclear bombs. Bombs are freedom. Bombs are liberty. Bombs promote peace and love. Pussies use guns.  Cheesy
Guns keep people safe. Nukes keep nations safe.
Guns didn't help the people in Boston now did they?
You're implying a bomb would have?
Neither would have. My contention is that assault weapons and bombs are only good for military applications. Civilians have no need for them because they offer no substantial benefits and often become a heavy burden on the people.
I'm afraid you're wrong here, on both counts. Both bombs and "assault weapons" have civilian uses.

People are complicated.  Smiley
I would say any conservative would call me liberal. I support legislation which expands rights. If you want to be in a gay marriage or represent the KKK in a march or smoke weed or shoot a machine gun on your farm, I support you.
I'm not afraid of peoples rights, I think we should enjoy them in liberal amounts.

Sounds like you're two clicks away from libertarian Cool
What I was going to say. Cheesy
It's true.  I think most Americans are libertarian at heart.
I try to look at an issue without bringing my own bias. Liberal vs. Conservative is of no interest to me. Stupid ideas vs. sensible ideas are. It's why I have friends of all kinds and political persuasions.

The NRA represents me, a liberal democrat.

Wait, what?

It should come as no surprise that this failed to go anywhere. America does not want this. The media is comprised largely of urban reporters who know nothing about guns or people who live outside of cities. They like to portray this as crushed by the powerful NRA gun lobby.
Well, guess what. The NRA is a grassroots group that represents millions of people. It is not like big pharma or the unholy defense lobby. They represent a few big manufactures. The NRA represents me, a liberal democrat.
I find it offensive to see politicians and the media charge people with not caring just because their own ignorance informed agenda is threatened. Honestly, gun policy is to the left what abortion is to the right. These are settled issues in the U.S. but neither side will accept it. So they waste our tax dollars endlessly parsing words and dreaming up cheats around due process. Meanwhile, real issues are ignored.

Now go unload an extended magazine of bullets into the air...

But... then I won't have it anymore....

No point having it if you don't use it.

True. Since they didn't ban high-capacity magazines, I can always get more.

Hopefully now we'll see the shelves start filling up again though. I've noticed there's a lot of people selling their 22s. Hopefully the used market will loosen up again too. There's a revolver I've been after but nobody's selling.

Hopefully this sends a message they can't take our rights away!

No, just that they'll have to try harder next time. Undecided
