HDD mining is new thing which I have heard, as I know you can simply mine with sata drives, it doesn't cares about ssd, you need huge amount of storage, for example 100TB to get profit from hdd mining. Nowdays more known coin is burst and you can mine it, also it's profitable now. If you are now investing money, than as one member told you, it's better to invest GPU mining.

It depends on your situation and your goals (mining BURST)...HDD you make already have, how long you're going to hold the coin.  In my case I already had about 12 TB (will probably increase that), my computers are always on, and electricity costs rolled into the business.

But you certainly don't need 100 TB to get the ball rolling.

With your 12 TB you are going to earn about 17$ per month. That is in my mind not very profitable. 4TB HDD is 129.78$. That means for 12 TB I have to pay 519.12 $. At current price it's going to take me 2.4 years to ROI. Now even if you already have hardware are you sure you want to spend all that space and your time managing your rig for 17$ per month ?
We are just talking about the investment for the hdd itself we need also to compute the amount of electricity that has been use per month and if you are just getting 17$ a month from its current price maybe its not worthed to do hdd mining but looking for big possibilities if you can wait for the coin to make its value theres a big possibility that the price will go up and all the coins that you mined will be like a fortune for you.

electricity cost for a single hdd is very small, the consumption is like 6w per hour, just do the math it's almost nothing monthly, i'm sure the problem is more about how many you need just for a few cent

Wow I didn't know that you can mine using your hdd I had some few spare hdd here, but I need to know first about this Burstcoin if this is a good crypto currency to invest and will it become the next Bitcoin.

I check the altcoin section and and very surprise with so many altcoin listed, why are they not popular like Bitcoin and are they clone of bitcoin some of them claims they are better than Bitcoin..

Yep there are definitely some interesting altcoins around here that use pretty unique methods such as these ones that can use your spare HDD space. It is quite hard for most altcoins to stand the test of time and gain popularity and a big user base like bitcoin has though. Some people also tend to like to stick with one coin and keeping track of a bunch of different altcoins can be overwhelming.

Bitcoin took several years itself until it was mas adopted (2013 is when I think it started to have mass adoption, before then, it was used less). There are also people that leave the coin as well. (Recently that has been rapid adoption though which will hopefully continue, and hopefully transfer the adoption around to other digital currencies (preferably ones that aren't just bitcoin duplicates - once that use an identical network structure, software and a sha256 mining algorithm).

Burst is a very interesting coin to look at though if you're interested in mining from your spare hard disk space.

I definitely like the Burst project.
They already have a fully developed GUI wallet that links to faucets, can start mining from with the wallet, etc.
They also have some really cool features like the "Asset Exchange" where you can invest in projects, essentially buying a piece of the project like a stock investment.
They have great ideas and the coin is really developed for something that trades at such a low price.

At current price it's going to take me 2.4 years to ROI. Now even if you already have hardware are you sure you want to spend all that space and your time managing your rig for 17$ per month ?

I already owned to the HDD, electricity costs me nothing, and I don't know what time you think it takes to manage 12 TB?  So far one of the HDD has kicked out so I had to do a restart, about 30 seconds to "manage" it.

My rig is small obviously, I'll be adding more TB.  You can also buy BURST cheap and invest in assets increasing your ROI.  If you expect to mine with a small amount of HDD and look to just immediately dump the coin (and expect big profit), you're right this might not be for you.  Most people are looking at BURST because it may have significant potential to accrue, not necessarily it's price point today.

Then it's more of a gamble with investment than mining. What if you mine this coin for like a year for example deciding to hold and price crash ?

That's why you have to evaluate the potential and price point.  That could happen to any coin as well.

i'm dont know exactly how HDD mining works, but if it's like a cloud storage service you cant forget about your internet.
in a few countries, fast internet isn't cheap and they limit your upload/download. So, if you dont have a good internet provider, this might be a bad idea.

Burstcoin sell order is much lower of 10 satoshis than 3 weeks ago but it is still the best hdd mining coin it's a young coin but the potential is great, they have their own forum, and mining it will not consume much electricity and computer resource compare if you are gpu mining other coins.

I know of Burst and Storj. It seems that Storj is still profitable to mine but I can't speak if Burst but there are some website to calculate how profitable a coin is to mine, you can get that through google search

storj it's not actually really minable with hdd, it's a cloud project if i understood correctly, not like burst where you can use your hdd to mine, so we can say that only burst is the truly minable hdd coin
