Do more investment in the knowledge about trading and bitcoin. Knowing the background of its system, value, vision and mission, you will get clear view regarding this question. All of us in here cannot do something useful for you except you help yourself with the knowledge in this bitcoin realm.
Everything will be alright. This is normal. Though I feel sad about your losses, it is just a paper loss. It is typical when Bitcoin decreases its value, alts go the same. The market will recover from what I heard from others that it may be May or June. Be patient and hold still.
The price variation with majority of the altcoins is upon the market changes taking place in relation to the speculation and the news getting circulated all around. So, it is good to hold or get into trading of the assets in the portfolio to increase the value above $8000.
If I were him, I would follow just one of the suggestions you gave which is to hodl. I won't follow trading advise. Op is a beginner according to him so is better he doesn't rush himself so he does not enter double loses that he can't manage.
I will hereby suggest that, if he can research and identify some of his coins with low potential, he sold dump them at this time because some of these low profile coins will die a natural death from this present crash.

for beginners you should learn first and learn how a coin can be suitable for the purchase because otherwise you will likely be stuck in the coin that has no progress. to be more secure do not use the assets you have to invest in some coin not in one coin only.

i think i'm a beginner but like what i know about bitcoin, it's all about privacy controls by its founders, talking about prices too, it's usual that sometimes reaches to higher levels and also dramatically goes down,

For now, since everything is down, we can't do anything about your loss but just hold it. Don't sell your coins just yet. It is not the end of crypto currency. Corrections happen after a huge increase. When you bought your coins, maybe they were at a high, so now that the correction happened, the alts you bought has decreased in value. Patience is the key so hold until it recovers. Next time you invest make sure you are willing to lose it. We will never know how the market will go.

if you wantto understand about it try to read more here in the forum or search in google or try to watch some videos about cryptocurrency i thinik it will helps you a lot to get more information about it and to understand all about cryptocurrency and how it works and you should need to get more knowledge before you enter in the world of cryptocurrency. To put it simple most of your alt paired with btc. When a crash was incoming, people would want to exchange their bitcoin back to something more stable like USD fiats, as fiat only pairs with btc or other major currencies, people temds to sell more and cheaper alts to BTC as thats we knew altcoin would suffer more lost than bitcoin, its a cycle so you have to be quick with entry and exit in alts
True that, I have been slow in selling my alts and converting them to BTC and later on changing to USD, so I have lost some profit. We need to actively monitor stuff closely. This way the flow of conversion will not hurt us and will eventually benefits us in the long run.

Well not all trader have the same strategy, some short their holdings and buy on dip, while others just keep on holding, and other buying. So this thing make trading more interesting and challenging.

Its because bitcoin is marked as the barometer of the whole crypto world. Any movements in bitcoin means that the crypto world is growing. But the problem is trading in crypto currencies is to beat the movement of bitcoin and surpass it because if you are earning or losing the same as one would have done if they would have kept money in bitcoin then your trading is a complete failure. I believe bitcoin will increase that's why I keep purchase bitcoin every month and keep hold it rather than short term trading.
It's quite risky if you trade bitcoin in short term because the value still too volatile.
Overall if you do not ready to lose, better stay away from bitcoin trading !
I like reading posts like this. They could provide me more knowledge aside from researching. Experiences shared by higher rank and older than me here like you is a great help to me and other beginners. So far, I learned that it is good to hold coins if its value is still low or if you think you cannot get your target profit when trading. It's quite risky if you trade bitcoin in short term because the value still too volatile.
Overall if you do not ready to lose, better stay away from bitcoin trading !

In this kind of situation in the market it's not surprising that other people in this field are do nervous and panic but for this situation, the best and strong weapon that we can have is the spirit of having positive mind and strong foundation of trust and belief to the system.It is also better that keep to our mind that it's only a past of it's volatility and soon it will rising up again in much surprising value. For now, hold on and be calm that is better to do.

if all traders did the same strategy as you did, then we are really seing why the price of bitcoin crashed, you see, trading depends on the market share of a specific coin. the value of its market cap matters, if all or most of the traders will buy lots of different coins at the same time, the demand for bitcoin crashes too, you sell, therefore the supply increases, there you create a trend, if you HODL, then the supply will decrease, then the price or value of bitcoin will increase, if it happens, that is the time to sell again, that is how it works. same goes with alt coins.
I am quite surprised with your portfolio. It has so much that you can manage them all. As a longtime investor, I think they are too much and you will not be able to succeed with such large amounts of crypto. Just focus on a few coins, you will feel more effective
