Web wallets are easy to use like coinbase.. its perfect for newbie people and its super fast

But it isn't secure as we have no access to private keys. I would go for Blockchain.info wallet rather coinbase and such wallets.

+1 for Multibit.

pretty good choice if you want a light weight wallet.

instead of dl all the block chain, etc. It also has the $ denominations.

Yup and OS cross platform.

Bitcoin core is a great wallet. Its major pros IMO are the coin control function and that you don't need to trust any third party unlike using thin clients. The only downside is that you need to keep a copy of full blockchain data on your machine.

For comparison of different wallets, you can take a look at https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

As others have mentioned, I'd recommend an online wallet for everyday purchases, but for long term storage, cold storage is the way to go.  I'd recommended an encrypted paper wallet or a Verso card.

I suggest GreenAdress: https://greenaddress.it/en/

GreenAddress allows you to choose an online wallet or a desktop one.

then i found out about SPV, and i think both Multibit and Electrum uses that. can anyone tell me how much does each of these two take up space on me hard drive? and also which one do you suggest

I am using Electrum, and the whole data directory (consisting of my wallet file and the blockchain header file) on my pc is only 26MB large. I prefer Electrum over Multibit because it is deterministic.

Take blockchain.info if you want an online wallet and bitcoin core for desktop wallet.
