Do you have a power switch connected to the board if this rig is not in a computer case?  You said you turn on the PSU and nothing happens but lights come on.  I am guessing you are doing this with the switch on the back of the PSU?  You still need to somehow short the 2 power switch pins on the motherboard by either using something metal to connect the 2 for a second or with a power switch.

Thanks - I will try that tonight and add some pictures of my connections so you experts can see if I have everything plugged in correctly or I'm being a muppet somewhere!

I hate to ask a stupid question but I've seen people do it before:

Did you power the ATX12V1 port next to the CPU?

"I tried re-installing the cpu, removing all gpus and connections into the back of the PSU and unplugging one of the ram sticks. Nothing"

Not entirely sure about what you mean with removing gpus (did you try to boot without).
But here's what I would do.

Remove all GPU's, Keep 1 memory stick in #1 slot. Remove all eventual USB things you have connected.
Does it boot?
Add the second memory and try again.
Does it boot?
Add 1 graphic card and try again.

If it doesn't boot, make sure everything is correctly connected. (Use motherboard handbook).
If everything is connected correctly try this with 1 GPU in the main slot and both memory sticks.

Find the CLEAR CMOS jumper on your motherboard. (Use handbook for ref.)
Normally it is 2-3 pins sticking up that you have to (shortcircuit? dont know the english word.)
by either using a key or some metal piece so that the two pins get currency between them.
On most new motherboards there are a little piece of plastic with metal inside them sitting on 2 of the 3 pins.

Like [ .  . ] .
Then move it so it is . [ . . ]
Powered off and PSU disconnected.
Then move it back again.

I had the same problem with cpu fan not running and stuff when I tried to overclock once so.
Give it a try.

Hi people.

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a new rig I'm attempting to setup but I can't get power.

I am using an:

AsRock H81 Pro BTC mobo
Seasonic 1250w Gold PSU
8 gb ram
Intel Pentium CPU
4 x MSI 280x

I connected everything up but the rig won't power on when I switch the on psu - I do get power to my external DVD drive so it would seem the mobo is getting some power but the cpu fan doesnt move and there is no led on the mobo (I dont know if this mobo has an led?)

I tried re-installing the cpu, removing all gpus and connections into the back of the PSU and unplugging one of the ram sticks. Nothing.

Does anyone have this mobo - psu setup? Where should I be plugging the cables?

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help people.
