I'm curious, have you turned to Bitcoin because you couldn't play poker with fiat?

Also, you can browse the gambling section of this forum to find a poker site that suits you well. You obviously won't find anything as good as PokerStars, but most sites are good enough.

First of all welcome!

Although it is important that full nodes (Bitcoin Core) clients are running I would not recommend it to new people.
It takes a long time to synchronize and if you don't backup the wallet.dat file safely you risk loosing all your bitcoins.

I would recommend an SPV client like Electrum.
There is no need to wait for it to synchronize and as long as you remember the seed (a few words that you can write down) you will be able to recover all your bitcoins.
It is important but it isn't important if OP doesn't open port 8333 to allow nodes to connect to it. However, you do need to backup the wallet.dat file again once you have made 100 transactions.

SPV clients do not provide the same level of security as Bitcoin Core.

Good luck on your poker. I like cloudbet a lot with their live dealer feature! Do give it a try.

you can begin to use it for poker room there are plenty of them, but last time i visited one they appear to be unfrequented

there were few players, it's sad because bitcoin and poker go very well together, no documentations are needed, cards verification, crap like that

Yes few players, but rake is lower, and bigger poker rooms starts to accept Bitcoin, really a good thing.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on installing Bitcoin Core. I would have gone for a easier option.. Online wallet or Coinbase account. It depends on your choice... really.

How familiar are you with Bitcoin? It will help us to give you better answers to your questions. There are some good and some bad poker sites out there, so chose wisely.  Wink

Do you only play poker or do you play other games too? Give us a bit more info to work with.  Grin

Hey Kprawn- not very familiar, just readding the forums collecting information, taking notes. I will use mostly for poker as its the only thing i am good at playing 6+ years.  Smiley

 Hi Torus,

Now it took 3-5min to synchronize when i started it this morning. I have encrypted my wallet + made a backup and stored it in USB. I will try Electrum also Smiley
