I am alsoe debating wheter I should make my first purchase. But this market can go so fast that you just have to be involved. I knew about bitcoin before I seriously started researching it and I still regret I didn't dig deeper back then. Don't live in regret, if you're planning on holding for a long time (couple of years) then buy now.

Bad idea for Bitcoin? Probably not. There's another fork coming in November which is supposed to create a third "air dropped" currency, so if you own bitcoin before that date you'll get the benefit of that new currency being just given to you (provided you have a wallet that will support it).

Going with a coin that has a lower fiat price offers the potential opportunity for greater price appreciation. Litecoin, Ether, and Ripple all have lower prices and could be poised for more significant growth over the next few years.

It's something to consider! When it doubt, own a few!

It is very good to understand about yourself,
Most people using their emotion to trade, which is why a lot of people lose their money instead of gain the profit from it.

Crypto and other assets are different,
Crypto will always steadily increasing in value and popularity in the next few years later because it has not been implemented yet by people.
So it still have a lot room to grow in the future,it's a good start in my opinion if you want to hold it for a long run,but it would be better if you can read the markets and the traders.

Crypto rule, buy on rumour sell on news.
In coming days or week we will see another downward movement(based on my opinion),if you can spare some cash try to buy it in the coming down.but it is ok if you buy it right now and holding it for a long term,
No matter what will happen in the short run.you will always get profit if you keep it for a long term

That is my common mistake, to postpone my purchase and regret it later. Since you've mentioned that you're in it for the long term, why not buy now and forget it about it as soon as possible? You shouldn't be bothered by the coming weeks or even the coming year if youre in it for the long term. I've waited 3 good years before I let go of my first purchases on bitcoin and now holding a few more for the next 3 years again. If you decided on sticking to it, might as well buy now while the price is taking a beating.

Hi,

So having begun researching bitcoin and researching blockchain a bit a bit over the last few days, I'm building up to my first big buy in in a few weeks.  My focus is the long term. I intend to put the majority of my $2000 investment into bitcoin, ether, and ripple, with some others (perhaps neo) on the side.  Is there any reason why doing this now is a bad idea?  Best case scenario for me would be a big crash in the next couple of weeks after which I can buy in cheap, but am I just a sucker buying into the fomo or will my investment at this time go up in the long run, regardless of what short term fluctuations may come?

Would love to know your thoughts. How do your strategies compare?
