I didn’t check because my PC is bricked (sadly Sad), but I feel like this may end up removing stuff it shouldn’t in some cases (i.e when there is a table in the post), so be careful.
Oh yeah, that's what i didn't check yet. I will try to check different threads later today. But as for my knowledge as long as the selector is directing/targeting from the specific class to its attribute/element/children, it's fine, but we will see.

Code:
document.querySelector("tr.titlebg > td").style.visibility = "hidden";
document.querySelector("td.windowbg > table > tbody > tr > td:nth-child(2) ").style.visibility = "hidden";

Instead of just hiding my username and leaving blank space I would much rather like to see using randomly generated characters (as my username) each time I use bitcointalk forum.
I guess this would be trivial modification for TryNinja, so instead of being theymos I could for example be renamed to something like this: s71(qQ]MCn4VZ2zCVhg]}YZwp.
Advantage is that it's hard for anyone to remember and repeat this randomly generated characters.

I remember LoyceV saying that he uses Loyce mobile while on transit or so, that also shows that you  can have the need to use the forum in the public place.
In LoyceV's case, I believe the user talked about people not contacting them on the moniker that's strictly for when they're on the move because it's not as secured as the main account. We aren't taking about security of account here but privacy.
I've said both: don't trust my Mobile, and I don't like that "anyone" can see my username in big font when I'm "in public".

I guess a much easier (hardware) solution would be to use a privacy screen protector. The downside is that it destroys the viewing angle of your device.

Wow, a useful thread came across while exploring (Hide my name). I would like to thank the OP and whoever created those useful scripts. I have also felt uneasy many times because of my name coming out in public places while browsing the forum.

This is a good idea and we can think about going anonymous to an extent while engaging in some things on the forum whereby when someone make a post you wouldn't have the opportunity of knowing who made it, I've also come to think of it the same way when i once saw a thread that suggest not seing the person that merited you, though many kicked against it because of possible abuse in doing such, but as for this case also, when you make a post under anonymous mode and someone needs to quote you, how will it be traced to you being the OP among other features happening on the forum which may requires the mention of ones name when.

So far I haven't had any problems with the forum display - although I will always read "Hello _BlackStar" at border. My forum looks like this - so I don't see too much things at the padding. You can also hide it by simply pressing the button to the right of the forum clock and date in the padding section, so you no longer see that section.

Unfortunately - it doesn't work when I jump to another page.

Does it really make any difference?
And why hiding their profile in public places btw, how do they hold their smartphones for someone else to look through inside and see what they are doing and their username publicly displayed to everyone.
Whenever i am out, I do not operate in this forum or trying to reply some comments over here except i have a secure place to seat and browse the forum comfortably before i could. Otherwise, our part of my country where you operate phone in the public they would attack you for either being a fraudster. So, the best is i do not operate my phone in public and there's no need to hide profile.

It only solves the privacy risk for those of you who use the forum in public places such as public transportation; I don't think hiding your forum username serves any security purpose; the script is just for fun. I was hoping the script would be able to hide one's identity from an old thread but it does not work that way. I've learned not to browse the forum outside of my work space and I don't even access it on my phone anymore, so I don't think I'd need such a script.

Yeah, this my point.

The script is not bad but it will only be helpful for those who use this forum secretly and don't want to reveal their forum name to anyone around. But I don't think anyone uses this forum secretly and I don't use it secretly from anyone. I have many friends who use this forum know my username. so I don't have a problem even if I don't use this script. It should be used by satoshi and it will be good for him because he is anonymous and wants to be for the rest of his life he he

I ain't against opening this site when in public space. I use the phone version of this site. I access it on the go all the time but it's no big deal for me hiding it. In fact, no one would even know I'm accessing it while I'm in their midst. I open the site and scroll up or zoom in immediately to hide the "Hello Mpamaegbu" part if I'm in a crowded space. Otherwise, I just do my stuff unnoticed. Except you draw attention, most people would think you're just on any regular site and not one dedicated to cryptos.

That's what I do in public as well. That thing sticks out like a sore thumb

Hello Leo! You can still win.
sometime when I was on the outside of home and browsing forum I have to maintain the security to hide my identity then I need to hide my forum name  for not to be noticed by someone . And that is what these scripts do.
If the only need for such "turning off" is just to hide one's username on top but it doesn't cut across previous posts made, I don't see its usefulness. If anyone doesn't feel comfortable people peeping into their devices while they open them in open space, then it's only reasonable not to open it at all when in such place(s). Sometimes, we throw ourselves into unnecessary secrecy by hiding things that aren't even relevant hiding. That's the way I see this approach.

I think it is inevitable or not easy to be avoided. There may be a time you necessarily need to use the forum but you are in the public place. It will make sense if you can continue to use the forum while hiding your data than not to use at all. The former means you have freedom to do whatever  you want because you can maneuver your ways while the later means you are constrained.

I remember LoyceV saying that he uses Loyce mobile while on transit or so, that also shows that you  can have the need to use the forum in the public place.

But is there actually a need for this extra security, even after knowing we are all anonymous in this forum?

Most times we use our phones when we are free and less busy, so why the need to remove the welcome name from the home page of the forum?

Some people may actually feel unsafe with that, but I am always happy to see my username displayed on the home page.

Let me emphasize on what Dave1 said. Most people are actually wary of exposing their username when in public because it actually breaches their privacy. In a real sense imagine me having to be caught up in same place with you and without you having a knowledge that I am member of Bitcointalk forum you open your account and your username shows up, then I have actually known the person behind that account. If at all we later got some sort of issues on the forum, then your safety isn’t guaranteed, considering the fact that I already know you.

I think it should be noted that this will hide the details on all profile pages, not just your profile. I am not sure if there is a way to limit this to just the personal profile page.
Yes, you can try it for yourself, for testing you can paste those codes in desktop browsers' dev console in most browser using "f12" key, the effect will be removed after you refresh the page.

But in the case of Name: (Username) there was no class or ID was used or I can't found the way so that is why I also could not solve the problem here.
You can use the "td:nth-child()" selector instead since there's no id and class available, check the second code i made.

I agree to the reasons mentioned of it's rare time to visit my summary page so i don't mind to that but if you think its very important to hide those details you can add this add this line in the "try" block.

The first line will Remove all in that part including the "Summary - (Username)". I can't think anyway to remove only the username. -.-
Second line hides the username in "Name: username"
The last line hides the avatar.
Dude I was also able to do this because Summary - (Username) had Class there(titlebg). Just adding this line to the above script will hide the summary-
Code:
document.getElementsByClassName("titlebg")[0].style.visibility = "hidden";
But in the case of Name: (Username) there was no class or ID was used or I can't found the way so that is why I also could not solve the problem here.  Sad

But one new request to you guys, In this script, only the above name and avatar can be hidden, but when entering the profile summary, it shows the user name, so another request to you guys is to create a script that hides the name in the profile summary as well.
Thanks.

// @name     Hide BitcoinTalk Username and Avatar
// @include   https://bitcointalk.org/*
// @version  1

// ==/UserScript==

try {

Thank you, now I see the point for this request.

Personally I do care about that too and my personal approach is finding a place where behind my back is the wall, nobody behind me. At least with this choice, I reduce risk but it is not perfect and the script request makes sense.

Personally, I am not fan of user script as I don't know what they code  Cheesy. I can not verify script by myself and I choose a safe approach, don't use it to avoid putting my laptop at infection risk.  Cheesy

Even you hide your username but if you bring your laptop around and shows that you are using Bitcointalk at public eyes, it is already a bad practice.

Could I know more why you need to hide your username at the profile summary, please.

You only see it when you log in your account and what is the point to hide a username of your account when you are using it?

I guess it makes sense if you hide your username from other forum members, not from yourself. Such scripts are only for personal experience and other forum members mostly use the forum default, no user script so no effect on their experience as well as search engines.
