May the force bit with you.
I vote leave it as is with the switch to turn it on on init.  And no to the in wallet IRC, just is cliche for the most part in my opinion.

Everything else is looking good. And I appreciate the work going into S4C, it is a great addition.

Seems this is the majority thinking. I tend to agree.

Thanks Tranz for the info.  Tongue

NP. I also suggest after you are fully up to sync, is to shutdown the client and clone the %appdata%/HoboNickels directory and the exe, to a thumb drive. If anything happens, PC, wallet, index, whatever, you are ready to run in a matter of minutes.

Yes I backed up my wallet data. The newest beta wallet eats up the backed up data also. So I either re-sync the entire chain to use the beta or go back to 1.4.0, so I will go back to 1.4.0 and wait for the next official wallet release.

Yes version 1.4.0.1+ uses a new index method which requires a re-index. You would have to do this now or when version 1.5 comes out, if you were at a lower version. The other option you have would be to use the new version but start it up with -fastindex=0. This would allow you to use the old index but still use the new wallet.

Life is a bitch, get used to it...
I have the first beta version for 1.5 ready. I'll put up the full change log on github in the next day or so.

https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases/tag/1.4.7.0

Although I have had no issues, I do highly suggest you take the time (after you shutdown the client) to backup your wallet(s).dat, blk0001.dat and  database/txleveldb directories, before starting up the new client.

Please let me know if you see anything odd or have any issues.

Enjoy!

I downloaded the v1.4.8.0-gc2153fdc-hobo wallet and it reset all my block data? Now I have to download the entire blockchain for trying a newer wallet version? It loads faster but now I have to wait an entire day for the wallet to download the blockchain again.

I would favor simplicity and security over IRC which I've never used anyway

Personally I would enjoy a space to chat in real time with other people I know are using the coin, mainly to see who is using the coin and create a greater sense of community, maybe help create community based projects for promotion of HBN ect. It doesn't have to be in the client but at the moment it seems as though most users of HBN are a bit detatched from any sense of community development in the coin. I could be wrong though. Just my 2 cents.

Probably best to keep things simple. Bells and whistles introduce overhead and can cause unexpected issues.

otoh, I don't mind if HoboNickels-Qt is feature rich as long as hobonickelsd remains lean.

Having a trollbox integrated in a wallet would certainly set HoboNickels apart from the rest and might be a great way to build an active community. (I imagine most people that download the wallet won't discover this thread).  Of course, it might also open the doors to IRC phishing bots preying on users right inside of the wallet. That might be somewhat undesirable Smiley

Agreed, security is the number one concern.  All changes I do I always try to think of that first.  IRC is mostly safe, but there are attacks such as DoS flood attacks and other holes(I may not know of) that could be exploited.

Perhaps if we allow for it, but turn it off by default, and give the user the options under the Option menu to enable it, could be the best of both world.

I'll play with it a bit and see, most likely it may not make it to 1.5, but I won't remove it from the code for now. Just leave it as dead code for the time being.

Same as others, no need for fancy stuff on a wallet.
People that want to use irc can use many already existing tools like xchat, mirc, mibbit etc if they really want to.

Only a strong and stable wallet is needed. Less cpu/ram he use, better it is Smiley

Btw, will it be possible to get rpc commands to get info about "our weight", "network weight", "% chance of producing a stake within xx hours" ? Smiley

Lower mem/cpu is ideal. I have plans to lower CPU, but lower memory usage is still a bit off. Perhaps version 1.6 or 1.7.

getmininginfo will give you all the information you request except % chance.  I can add that..

Good feedback. I am pretty much feeling the same way.

Is there anyone that wants it?  Speak now or forever hold your peace!

What about other features? Like market data, or watch only addresses, or other things. Are these something we want to try to get integrated?

What would be the descriptions of watch only addresses or "other things?" Market data seems interesting, but a lot of places already do that.

Things like integrated block-explorer seem popular, but since these only review the blocks downloaded by the wallet, it doesn't necessarily help to see if you're on a fork. Before I move large blocks off exchanges, I always like the check my current block hash against an explorer (like say CAP and HBN's on cryptocoinexplorer, which is really nice since it seems to be updated versus the old explorer).

Watch only means you can put in another address to which you do not have the private key, and watch how coins come in and out of that address. You can't spend them, but just watch the action.

Market data could be used to tag the coin at time of mining, reciving, or spending. This way you could know exactly what the value is at the time.

True about the integrated block browser.  It maybe possible to create a "verified" version by going against the CCE API for example.  Plus this will give you historical hash rate/netweight by block number.
