I'm also holding some altar coins myself, thees however were tokens I got from bounty campaigns. I think I fall inlove to it sadly they didn't fall for me. The profit would have been enormous that I can buy a lot of things, I thought its foolish to sell its during that time since I think the market will eventually shift to bull. I never though this will take more than years. I guess we're all left to hold these altarcoins.

Yes it's foolishness to an extent holding alter coins. Every time there's market shake out, alter coins suffer loss. Holding alter coins isn't foolishness in all round it turns out good sometimes.

Cry I had some investment. What I understand in a short period of trading.Altar coins are foolish to hold long.Whenever I hold coins, I lose.Is there any way to get rid of it? If you know please be benefited.

What the hell is Altar coins? or do you mean alternative coins, or altcoin for short?

Anyways, what can you except to hold those coins. We are still in the bearish market and it's really hard to make money with this kind of trend. Unless you are a experience trader and really knows how shorting really is. Although it is still hard to short altcoins to begin with.

Of course there are ways to get rid of it by dumping your altcoins. How long have been holding though? Most holders here takes years to hold their coin and wait for the price of it to go in a upward trend before dumping.

It is very simple to say that you do not do research before deciding on what to hold. Even if you cannot do that by yourself, you might have a friend who knows how to make good choices, perhaps due to his experience or knowledge of crypto. Then gradually, you might learn how to get them done in the process.
Also, when you make mistakes, try to learn from them. They might be useful in future.

Well i have different opinion as i think selling at such low prices or near bottom is foolish approach and rather it is time to buy and accumulate more of serious alt coins as it will average out and give you more profit when bulls will take over the market but make sure you pick high quality alts only with active development teams and proven reputation.

That's probably the way to go. Most alts are at or close to their all-time lows in relation to btc pairings. Unless we are talking about moving to a better opportunity and taking a minor loss, probably now isn't the best time to sell.

Exception being if we are talking about junk. If it's some 500-1000+ rated coin with no development and some ridiculous real world use, and hardly any volume, then it might be time to just take the loss and move to something else. But even there, ideally time it right so it's as minimal a loss as possible.

It should be alternative coins = alt coins.

It is your taste and choice if you have invested your money to altcoins, what matters is what are those altcoins you have chosen? and don't you want to buy bitcoin even for once?

Holding altcoins is not foolish as you have said because am a fan of altcoins and toll now I have made a significant profit from my investment. Altcoins holding is not like our normal investment, ensure to invest on a long-term basis than on a short-term. I think the reason behind your failing in altcoins investment is because you do that on short-term basis.

I just heard of Coin Altar.Did you invest a large amount ... Give me an exchange that has traded Coin Altar.Looks like you chose a Coin that has not been popular so that the future is quite bleak if the developer does not do an intense promotion so that investors, traders know the Altar coin. My advice if you want to invest long or short term, choose Altcoin which has a large community and a team that continues to work like ETH.

Not all altcoins though and the main question is, did you really made a good analysis before buying or you just felt like buying? Buying any altcoin without proper analysis is not right as you might end up being a bag holder for long. Since you have learnt your lessons about trading as well as holding, I think the best strategy for you is to buy coins like BTC or ETH, at least you won't need to worry much or think it's foolish holding them. Furthermore, there are good altcoins you can hold too which can bring a good profit such as at when due for example XLM but in all you need to be smart and patient.

I was scratching my head thinking what the heck is ALTAR coin?
And then I tried search and found again a thread which this OP had written before this one which is this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/now-i-want-to-buy-some-kind-of-alternate-coinswhat-kind-of-coins-can-i-buy-5178510

I was actually thinking this is a coin which the Catholics are using Smiley Its a bit too late to sell them now. You might just keep them and wait will the market turns good again.

Lol same here, the first thing I saw when I search altar coins is the  currency in Idle heroes.  Anyways, almost all altcoins continous to bleed for more than a year now.  There are some that were pumped but it was short lived and goes back to bleeding again.  I believe, if you are in a losing position, hodl is a better option as long as the altcoin have a solid team of developer, huge community and active trades.  If not and it has idle volume then the best thing is just sell them and forget about your loses, move on and learn from your experience. Do your thorough research next time you buy another altcoin.

It depends on where you have invested. If you have invested in BTC, you wont regret. I guess same might be applicable for ETH, ADA, TRON, DASH, LTC etc.. Rest all is like gambling.

I had no idea what he was referring to either, then just assumed he meant alt coins in general.

Careful with that Catholic coin idea -- never know, it's just ridiculous enough for someone here to actually make it. Donate to the church using Altar coin! Automatic 10% tithing POS + free rosary beads with every masternode!

Holding of altcoin is a better option to earn profit. You need to analysis fully before to inverse your money in altcoin. Some of the less potential altcoin also available in the market. You should not get to it.You need to inverse in good altcoin like ETH, to get more profit from it.You can earn double the profit it ETH ,if you hold it for long term .

I have a question for you. Why you do consider this Altar coins in the very first place? Your questions would be answered by yourself. Take a research regarding into this coin and if you do saw some future plans came from the team behind it then it might be a considerable thing for you to rely on but nothing is certain because even if we do see some progress but it doesn't mean it will succeed in the future.Since you do talk about trading short then utilize its price volatility which is far more better than holding to a thing which isn't sure.
Just decide on where you would able to take advantage as long you can get greens then you are doing well.

Kind of a weird thread ... alts now are in an obvious bear market, so trying to play them short term for profit can be tricky. There is no set mindset of 'hold alts short-term' only though. Look at 2017/18, if you use that mindset back then you'd lose out on like 10x profits. That was then, this is now, however ... same rules won't apply if all you do is look at things short-term.

Anyway, if the OP's goal is to get some quick profits during a week or two, crypto probably isn't for him, or at least alts aren't. But if he's at a big loss, I wouldn't suggest he sell either, as all that does is lock in the loss.

Depends on what coins he holds and if there is at least potential profit there eventually. If it's a garbage coin then I'd say consider taking the loss, if a decent alt, consider riding it out.
