According to http://coinmap.org/, there are a couple of businesses taking bitcoin in Hong Kong, including hotel, restaurants, custom tailor and massage store.

International bank wire to an exchange does work.

Hi b!z,

I'm not sure I understand your post.  We accept international deposit wires and we process these as received on a weekday-daily basis.  We also allow support international wire withdrawals and these are processed just as quickly.

Hong Kong is not at all what it used to be - I tried to open a bank account there earlier this year and despite having sufficient ID they would not let me open one (they demanded to know *why* I need a bank account in Hong Kong and basically treated me as though I was some sort of criminal as I just honestly stated "because I travel here regularly and it would be useful").

Thinking it might have just been some attitude at one particular bank my wife and I tried 4 other banks and got the same treatment at each (and even at a Bank Of China branch despite my wife being a Chinese citizen they would not let her open an account either).

Hong Kong is the most capitalist territory in the world, so where are all the bitcoiners here? Why is there no HKD-dedicated exchange? Or a way to buy BTC with funds from an HKD bank account (which anyone in the world can open)? Unless I'm missing something...

We couldn't agree more!

Apologies for the delayed introduction.  For those unfamiliar with Asia Nexgen Bitcoin Exchange, we launched only late last month but it has been a tremendously busy time since!  Our official launch page is https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-updated-asia-nexgen-bitcoin-exchange-launched-no-fee-trading-promotion-262091 however I will remind everyone here that from now until the end of August we are providing commission free trading on the purchasing and selling of Bitcoins.  We also offer arguably the fastest deposit and withdrawal processing times of any Bitcoin exchange globally...AND we offer bank transfers for those fortunate enough to reside in Hong Kong, so no costly wires.

We look forward to your custom!

Please trade Bitcoin at www.BitCashOut.com

We are located at Hong Kong. Currently four currencies are supported: HKD, CNY, USD and EUR.

HK dollars is in controlled by HK central bank which will be heavily influcened by PRC.... BTW, the number of geeks who will use bitcoins in HK is fewer than the number of geerks in US / UK dollar area...

There is no central bank in Hong Kong. HKD is pegged to USD for historical reasons which means the money printing done by US central bank devalues HKD just like USD.

I do want to know what's the cheapest way to convert bitcoin to money in a HK bank account though. Anyone have experience?
How much business does your site get?

To be honest, currently the trading scale is not so big, since the Hong Kong market still need some time to build up. But there should not be any liquidity problem if you want to trade.
