The idea of having .bitcoin tld is nice but hard to actually have it, ICANN will never approve it.

Who owns the rights to the name 'bitcoin'?

If it's public no one can register a gTLD, it will be rejected like 'html', 'php' or 'linux'.

The investment that Op quoted is something big that is quite enough to make a better profit through other service availability and trading platform. I believe bitcoin domain won't be that profitable than other accessibility to different trading platforms.

How about create .bitcoin domain ?

Now we can create gtld (generic top lebel domain) with IANA.
It cost first $185,000 and $25,000 per a year.

.bitcoin domain should be delegated by famous registry after create domain.
It is able to cloudfounding (bitcoin and dollar).
Cloudfounding patron can get domain fast.

how do you think ?
Thank you.
Dot bitcoin domain will not serve any purpose for the betterment of bitcoin as a whole. There are numerous other gtld but they haven't made any significant effect.
A dot com domain with a good bitcoin keywords is still a better choice than having a bitcoin gtld

.bitcoin domain is not needed and not relevant to the development of bitcoin. It might be good to have for some businesses or information websites, but you can always use the .com .net. org etc etc....

A .altcoin TLD only available to operators of altcoins however I think would be a fantastic idea - or a .crypto gTLD open to anyone for any purpose.

I am a fan of ngTLDs for what it is worth. I am not a fan of "premium" domain names (e.g. some cost over a grand EVERY YEAR) but I am a fan of the ngTLDs.

I also wish more caching nameservers would know how to query namecoin. That is a problem.

i don't think to create .bitcoin domain is a good idea, because with .com as primary domain its the best we can create beside that .com is the main of tld. maybe if one person have big money, he will do this and then he can sold it to get money, i've seen this in domain seller which people buy a domain, maintain or abandon and then if he see good price, he will sold it.

but for .bitcoin, i think its better create another .com domain rather than use .bitcoin tld. its too difficult to remember, its just from me.

some things are worth X amount of dollars to do.  a tld for bitcoin is a neat novelty, but serves no purpose and will likely end up happening in the next five years anyway.  if it was way cheaper, sure, for fun and the attention, at the current pricing schemes, no way in hell

It doesn't really think it is logical to get a .Bitcoin domain. What good can that possibly do? I mean let's face it, .Com is the go to domain tld right now for most merchants as it is the most recognised across the globe. Many attempts have been made to gain market share from .Com but most attempts are rather futile.

It's just a waste of money I think, 200k can be donated to better the bitcoin community instead of wasting it on something that is completely irrelevant. Bitcoin isn't a country nor a business.

Personally I'm not really interested in a .bitcoin TLD. It is too specific and that could lead to its abuse with scammers using it to make Internet users think a site on it was something official.

You have a point. Scammers will take advantage of it create a HYIP or Ponzi or a doubler website and claim to be a official website by bitcoiners and later on it was too late before you know you have been scam. Or can used the generic .com extension and it doesn' t sound attractive to me. We don't need fancy names just to promote bitcoin.
