Hello I'm a new user to this forum and I've been a lurker for quite some time before making an account. I decided it's time for me to start posting and contributing to the forums and hopefully learn more. One thing I noticed is the progression for new accounts seems incredible stunted to what used to exist, according to some users. How are new users expected to rank up with the current rules? Does anyone have any experience ranking up in this newer rank system?

Your first post is about ranking up? Don't you think your priorities are a bit backwards? Your rank is not holding you up from contributing to the forum. If you really need some high-rank features - buy a Copper membership. If you need something basic like posting images - create a post with those images and I'm sure some kind soul will send you one merit to make them show up if the post is worth it.

Says the shit posting self debunking fool wearing a chipmixer sig and foxpoop avatar for extra btc dust.

The only reason people really care about ranking up ( perhaps except from newbie) is financial considerations. Legendary especially legendary DT1 crew hold an iron grip over board revenue via sigs and management positions , escrow etc. (...)

1. Meta board you found the jackpot for merit
2. Wall observer thread
Make sure to get there and eat as much ass as you can of merit sources and DT1 ( generally the same thing since merit determines DT1 selection) agree with all the stupid shit they spew out and attack anyone that presents infallible indisputable rebuttals.
3. Do some scam hunting of course ignore the scams DT and merit sources are in on or promoting.
4. Make a ton of useless stats based on the meaningless gamed merit system that pronounces all the non achieving retards with lots of self awarded merits are amazing and valuable real legends.
5. Pretend you have no interest in sigs until on DT1 so you can go straight to CM
6. If a DT1 tells to do something like betray a real friend or reject a valid flag on their sponsor or pal do it at once
7. Anyone who dares present irrefutable evidence of DT scamming is cryptohunter make sure to be first to ID them as such
8. Do not say the word 'fat' in any thread suchmoon may look in on.
9. Don't be overly nice to suchmoon. Best not have any direct contact until you win favor of the other DT1s
10. Say good things about the sponsors of DT1
11. As you get some merit praise how brilliant the merit system is and how it is a perfectly indicator of how smart useful a member is and what they have achieved.
12. Once you've eaten enough ass, supported enough retarded and broken arguments, and helped enough scammers, and tried to punish enough whistleblowers,  have betrayed enough friends and know you have past the point of no return in becoming a corrupt and dirty subservient debased and defiled piece of scum... you will be a hero or legend on Dt1 getting that btc sig dust rolling in.

Go forth now and fill ya boots.

Or just learn to trade and earn 100x more in under 6 months.

Damn mate, I think you're taking this whole thing a little bit too seriously. Especially for someone who earns 100x more.

13. Go outside from time to time. There's a whole world out there.

Welcome to the forum, your answer is on your question. Not sure if this is your primary account, but you are smart enough.

Bold part is the one who can help your rank up. But I an wondering, was it necessary to think about your rank up in your first post? You should ask yourself why you need to rank up? Because rank will not prevent you from your contributions. More important is to be an established member of the forum by your contributions. Many users rank up after the implementation of the merit system, for example, me.

However, learn to use the search button. So you may avoid creating such an unnecessary post in the future.

Does anyone have any experience ranking up in this newer rank system?
"Experience", certainly a lot has been passed by members in this forum, who have succeeded in achieving rankings while in the form of a new ranking system (Merit).

There are a thousand things members have done here to earn awards and ratings, you can learn from the members who have been successful here doing it.
you can see here a list of the history of members who have successfully done all that.

Topic: Bitcointalk Ranking-up pipeline- Those close to their next rank (lacking Merits)

The very important thing you need to do to achieve the highest ranking is: do it and make the best and meaningful posts for all members in this forum, you will automatically find the rank you want.

Do better than complain.

He's one of the good hat designer I know. However, having a hat on your avatar does not mean that you will automatically rank up. It's just away of being identified as part of one of the "gangs" in bitcointalk that is The Hat gang or sometimes known as The Wall Observer gang

I think what xhomerx10 meant is that he got merits through making hats (people merited him for the good works)

Oh lol, I thought "I just made hats" was some kind of insider joke until I saw your post Grin

Never expect to rank up and just focus on helping and learning like you wanted to do then you won't expect that you ranked up from being a newbie to next milestone. Posts above already serve as your guide on what to do contribute in this forum without expecting something in return.

The real question at hand is always: "why do you exactly want to rank up?"

I also encourage a lot of members to make an achievement every time I want to share my motivation when I'm starting on this forum.

To have an avatar that's all.

When I was a newbie I'm I tell to my self that I want to wear an avatar too which has a name of my account and logo if it takes a lot of hard times because you need to gain 100 merits before to be a full member but just to get creative and pushing my self to have avatar here am now got the Full member and road to Sr Member.

Firstly, the merit was introduced so that people can make good contributions to the forum and so that only individual that worth ranking will rankup rather than people who spam the forum. However, it easy to rank up but it will take alot of time and research which will make the merit source notice you and it requires you making special posts.
In the meantime, you can check list of recent posts that was awarded merit here and examining what they are doing.

Good questions any newbies that wants to rank up should first answer this question before asking why it's hard to rank up,and obviously we can get the answer if he is participating in a bounty campaign while he is still a newbie.

If you are a member having a bright knowledge especially when it comes to blockchain and computer programming then I would like to congratulate you in advance. Ranking up would not be a hard thing for you, I'm pretty sure you can hit Legendary rank because such discussions are mostly appreciated here Cheesy. But if not then that's fine, you can still earn merits while learning like most of the members . You can at least become always updated on the latest crypto news and post it here, create useful topics or try to be a generous type (this is proven and tested, someone out there can really appreciate your kindness). These are the common ways on how to earn merit faster.

Welcome here old lurker. Enjoy your stay here. Don't stress yourself too much. Just interact with others and let everything flows naturally Wink.

It's not a good sign if your very first post on these boards is about Merit. I can't read your mind, but you're probably here for the money from the very beginning and it's a recipe for frustration, you'll see.

I also was a "lurker" once, and when I registered my account, I knew about airdrops but I had no idea AT ALL that people got paid for wearing these signatures. I honestly believed they were worn by people who really believed in the project, or that these people were hoping to raise prices by "signature shilling". Hilarious, now that I think about it.

Anyway, it was my luck, because once the concept Merit was launched, it became more a matter of reputation to me than a matter of money and I'm [edit: NOT Grin] on this forum to gain a living (for that I have a job, you know), but basically to have a good time. Which makes that, like at the moment, sometimes I participate in bounties - which is great - and sometimes I have no sig at all - which is great too. Imo, it's the only "healthy" way of being a member of this community.

PS: But to give an answer to your question. Don't absolutely try to write top quality posts, because it will feel forced and artificial, but absolutely try to not write crap or spam. Participate like a normal human being. Merit will follow automatically.

You can always ask the 16.939 people profiles that have ranked-up at least one level under the Merit System (as of last Friday):

https://public.tableau.com/views/BitcointalkMeritDashboard/Ranked-up?:language=es&:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link

Of course, the higher the Rank, the more difficult it becomes, but even so, 14 have made it to Legendary starting-off with 0 Merits, and if we go to the common grounds, there are 3.967 Members that made it starting from scratch.

Granted that the numbers are not tremendous, but there are 16.939 that can anwser the question around here.

OP, if you want to exclusively earn merits you would have to do something out of the box. Now I know this sounds awkward for a new member to do but this is how you gain a load of merits on this forum nowadays instead of how the system was supposed to be, that is make posts that are worth reading and you have a chance at getting merits.

However I am not convinced that the OP is a new user to this forum. The way they use the quoting function to reply to several users makes me wonder who is using behind this new account.

Still if they are really a new user then my advice would be to not hunt after merits but post in threads that you have an interest in and feel you wish to add something. It is tough for newbies to gain recognition but many merit sources are newbie-friendly.

How to rank up? Gain merits.
How to get merits? Make a constructive and helpful post.

Most of the time there are a lot of members just creating an account right here and asking how to get and earn money or bitcoins. According to your OP, I think you already know the rules because you are already lurking around.

Rank before is just reflecting the number of your activity. Right now because of the merit system the rank reflections of your number of good quality posts and contributions right here on your forum if you want to get a higher rank of Hero and Legendary it takes a lot of time and journey still focusing to achieve and use this as a motivation. Looking forward to your contents right here.

The last three threads belong to me. If you notice while reading, you will see my changes (even when I wrote my stories) from Full member to Sr. member and Hero member.

To start off, you don't need to set up too high goals. Begin with acceptable high goals, not extremely high because you might be disappointed and give up. It is more important to keep up your good workds, your improvements and lift your goals upwards gradually.

Eventually, you will reach to a level at which you will neither mind on ranking up nor stop making your good and continuous contributions on the forum. There are some users who have earned thousands of merit and they have not yet stopped their contributions.

Last but not least, read and try to use Search then you won't have to make such similar threads.

Does anyone have any experience ranking up in this newer rank system?
Hello there yes, many members here ranked up since the implementation of merit system. I myself ranked up from member up to hero rank. To tell you the truth its not easy to get merit, especially if your account has been affiliated with bounty report links and almost all related to joining airdrop or bounty.

But it was a game changer for me to change that status and realized the importance of learning more here in forum than just a bounty. But as you go on, you will improved each time you encountered such failure or mistake like posting on wrong section, replying on already answered inquiry, and many more.

Let me share you my experience with this post From being a shitposter before now Officially Hero Rank hope you can learn something and inspired by this.

How are new users expected to rank up with the current rules?
by providing high-quality, useful, constructive enough, etc.. posts in order to gain merit. but don't expect to get merit every time you create high quality, useful, constructive posts.

Does anyone have any experience ranking up in this newer rank system?

this thread "The future of Bitcointalk: Low Ranking Top Merit earners in the past 30 days" created by LoyceV consists of a list of newbies, low ranks members getting merits after the merit system was implemented. a lot of them has reached enough merit to rank up and are just waiting for their activity to reach the requirement to finally rank up.

Not sure what bounties are, care to explain? Several others have already mentioned avoiding them. I am also interested in signature campaigns but those are very far in the future, so not worth considering now.
Bounties are those advertisement campaigns, for the reward of tokens/altcoins. What's the difference between these and regular campaigns? Most of them are with newly-created or to-be-created cryptocurrencies, which means that the initial cost of the bounty campaigns is 0 for the founder side (apart from time). This means that it's highly accessible for scammers or otherwise to make fake coins to pump for a quick buck, by using bounty participants to advertise it around.

Moreover, signature campaigns from bounty campaigns flood the forum with spam.

I was a member when everything changed. There were hust a few merit sources back then and the distribution of was not like now, it's easier now, less spammers more sources and higher chance to rank up if you are genuin user.

Don't think about ranking up. Think about that ypu should build a good reputation, this is what makes you valuable, the merit and ranking up will come later. Just be yourself, ask, learn and then try to help, and you'll get there in no time.
Good luck, this forum badly needs more genuin users, so you are welcome Wink
Thats relieving to hear, glad to hear its still possible to rank up at a decent as a new user compared to the older days. The new requirements for merit do make it quite harder.

The real question at hand is always: "why do you exactly want to rank up?"

Is it for the acclaim, the reputation, the status? Or, perhaps, a financial incentive, perhaps, catalyzed by someone else raving about this elusive thing called a 'signature campaign' which brings about spam across the forum.

Don't do bounties, if you do rank up.

The answer (IMO) is always: "I want to maximize my earnings".
I don't even know how they would keep it up. Spending all this time, especially from this point, just to chase after $50/week campaigns that consume a huge amount of time, unless you sacrifice your dignity and chase after those bounty campaigns and shit all over the forum.

If you live in a low cost of living area, then it might make sense... but usually, the English skill is so poor that it degrades the actual quality of the post - some non-native writers can get away with loose English, but most a lot of spammers are terrible.

One thing I noticed is the progression for new accounts seems incredible stunted to what used to exist, according to some users.
Have you noticed this yourself or have you read it from other members?  How long did you lurk before creating an account here?  Regardless of your answer, what you wrote is absolutely true, and the big change came in January 2018 when the merit system was created.  If you were a lower-ranked member then, it suddenly became extremely difficult to rank up (depending on how good of a poster you were, of course).

How are new users expected to rank up with the current rules? Does anyone have any experience ranking up in this newer rank system?
Members aren't expected to rank up at all.  It either happens for you or it doesn't.  But if you're asking how to rank up, this question has been asked probably hundreds of times in Meta and other sections ever since Jan. 2018.  May I suggest going back to the end of that month in 2018 and check out the threads in Meta, because they pretty much all dealt with the merit system and the problems it was causing members as far as ranking up goes.

It's good reading, but even if you choose not to take my suggestion the answer to the question of how to earn merits/rank up is fairly simple, and you're essentially going to hear the same thing from everyone:  you have to make good posts.  In addition, those good posts should not be posted in spam sections like Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion, because they won't be noticed.

Also, the more posts you make, the better your chances are of earning merits--but they still have to be good enough to stand out from the rest of the crap that abounds on bitcointalk.  If you put minimal effort into writing a post and it ends up looking just like every other post in that thread, it isn't likely you'll earn merits.

The real question at hand is always: "why do you exactly want to rank up?"
The answer (IMO) is always: "I want to maximize my earnings".

Exactly, just like his great example  Roll Eyes Grin

I see, are there specific discussions to avoid that are considered low quality?

Not really. A lot of the altcoin sections are filled with spam try not to post in a lot of service announcements threads (especially the gambling and altcoin section) and avoid posting exclusively in things like the altcoins section. Feel free to make any topics you think are interesting to discuss and generally you can determine something is low quality by just considering if you can lose anything by posting something - if it doesn't seem spammy to you it isn't to anyone else (I say this but a lot of my merits come from going back on my decision to delete 🤣).

It's funny how he wanted to help contributing to the forum but he's asking how to rank up before anything else lol.
The only disadvantage that a newbie account has is the image posting, but you can just have image link.
I think what you really want is to rank up to make some money in here. hmmm.

You just have to make good quality posts and earn merits.
Good quality posts like xhomerx10 over there? I'll try to match his quality.

A lot of people post in bounties and similar spammy places so they don't get much merit and don't rank up. If you're here to learn you'll almost definitely rank up fast or if you offer something to the community - discussion/an infrequently exercised skill then you should rank up fairly quickly too. Anything else and it'll take time - people that just spam don't earn much merit but if you're here for the right reasons you'll get it fast (I think we've all been lurkers if we're here for the right reasons I was lurking since April before I joined in August 2015).
I see, are there specific discussions to avoid that are considered low quality?
