I think, as FedEx has said in a few statements. "How are we suppose to control what our customers send?" "Why are we criminally responsible for something we didn't do, or have control over."
It will be interesting to see how the FedEx thing plays out. There will always be a black market bitcoin or not. People will use whatever currency is available. Its hard to blame a currency because some criminal organization decided thats what it was going to use.

The allegation is they did things specifically to help these fake pharms distribute their stock knowing that is what was being done.

That would be where they crossed the line.
I think this is going to determine their guilt. If FedEx really knew about the drug companies selling illegal drugs and facilitated their distribution then they will likely be found guilty.

I quite like how bitcoin got its first push via the blackmarket but is now gaining legitimacy. It's here to stay whether people agree with it or not.

FedEx just got indicted for drug delivery.  Don't you guys read the news?  They are under criminal indictment.

What? This is riduclous if true. Best start lawsuits against airplane manufacturers for importing all that coke.

$1.2 Billion generated sales just from Silk Road around 2.5 years operation
that's a big amount of money
and now there are some 25 new marketplaces just like the Silk Road. Shocked
i'm curious how they shipped illegal drugs/ guns to the buyer/customer?
I think the $2.5 billion figure is inflated as they measured the sales in terms of BTC but most of the BTC transacted was when BTC was trading much less then it is now.

I agree, they may have done these things. I guess the proof just needs to start coming out, and then we'll know for sure. I wouldn't put it past them if they were. Seems everyone is trying to make a little extra on the side nowadays, I'm sure they aren't the only ones. lol

Since when does Amazon and Target take Bitcoin?

Is that article that badly written?

I know O takes it but to say Amazon and Target doe is wrong, they may take giftcards you can purchase elsewhere with btc, but neither AMZ or TRGT take bitcoin.

So article is wrong and misleading.

BAD JOURNALISM

Been watching the Open ignoring news lately, I missed that story

Fedex was busted

haha

But according to the indictment, the company was interested enough in revenue from shady Internet pharmacies to create bureaucratic workarounds.

If true, that's conspiracy - and if the prosecution can prove it, they'll have a big fine to pay.

That is prosecutorial malpractice and a dangerous legal precedent. Criminal law should be about intent. By that standard renting a car can get you prison time if someone left a package hidden in the rental car that is discovered while you are in possession of the vehicle.

They mail it!
I'm kidding.
I wouldn't really know.

I thought the underground coin was darkcoin or something like that?
They use BTC instead?
I think they are really mail it, i saw in the Snitch movies, the drugs send by expedition courier. i though silk road has their own expedition to mail their "hot" product
there's no DRK at that time, maybe "they" will use DRK to make a drug transaction
I think they actually do use the USPS along with UPS and Fedex. There was a bust in my area recently and the local news station said the purchase was made at "the silk road" and shipped via Fedex. I am not sure how accurate the report was, but the packages that were delivered were Fedex.
and those expedition companies don't checked using X-ray like in airport ?

I think it is like anything else. You check a certain percentage of packages. To check every one would be prohibitively expensive.

It's easy they literately don't check the mail anymore. I'm in Florida and I know a few people who buy pounds of pot out of Colorado every week. One of them funked out the post office.

Oh they still check.

Boxes that have tape around all seems are flagged.
Packages, especially express mail, with hand written labels are flagged (businesses usually use software to print label).
Packages sent from an invalid address are flagged.
Packages sent to a name not associated with an address are flagged.
Packages shipped from a post office not close to return address are flagged.

Enough flags and it likely gets checked.

Getting checked doesn't mean they will act if they find drugs, they are more interested in suppliers than buyers so if it is a small amount, they will often still deliver while investigating who the supplier is.

Bitcoin is also growing in popularity because many legitimate online retailers like Overstock (OSTK) , Amazon (AMZN) , and Target (TGT) , now accepting it as a form of payment. - See more at: http://www.equities.com/editors-desk/currencies-forex/how-bitcoin-made-it-past-the-black-market#sthash.CF1TAlQ7.dpuf

This article is from the future  Grin

Maybe they know something we don't? I wonder when the article about the dollar getting past the black market will finally come out.

They mail it, and that is one (of many) piece of evidence they have demonstrating conspiracy of DPR to commit crimes - he had instructions on how to avoid detection in the USPS system when shipping drugs.
