If a country banned Bitcoin for internal purchases, people would just buy abroad and import the goods. That would weaken the balance of payments for the country. It would be far better to encourage the use of Bitcoin to sell locally manufactured goods abroad.

it's not banned in china "Trading or mining in bitcoin is not illegal for common citizens."

Exactly. China is one of the key factors in the price of bitcoin. If Chinese people didn't use bitcoin, the price of bitcoin would be much lower than what it is now .

The moment bitcoin is banned, by making using punishable people will find other ways to use. The thing with governements trying to educate their people is they become hated.
And a dark market will arise.

That's the reason why Silk Road happened f.e.

How do you ban Bitcoin? If they break down your door and enter you residence and find no Bitcoin address and private key... what did they accomplish? You can hide that

information in a encrypted document online and nobody will know. You can run a business online and have funds deposited into that address and nobody can stop you. They

can only stop you from "using" Bitcoin at physical merchant outlets and some services and block accounts linked to exchanges and banks. You can collect Bitcoin and go to a

country that accepts it, and nobody can stop you. You can also send it to a friend in another country and they can send you a MoneyGram in return {minus the fees} ..if you

are really desperate for the fiat. Bitcoin gives you a border less freedom to do what you like with your money. You worked for it... you own it. Pay your taxes and you will

be fine.  Wink

Such as Russia and China that banned Bitcoin?

It is banned but it is so anonymous that ban doesnt matter anything.
People in such countries can use bitcoin if the wish and no one can know because its fully anonymous

I have heard  that bitcoin is banned in some countries such as china but still it turns out to be most successful there because as said above, it is easy to keep BTC trading a secret and also users generally tend to convert it into local currency to withdraw them using different sites , so dealing in btc becomes an easy task.

same as in other countries that prohibit bitcoin as a means of payment or as a payment alternative, if Russia and China prohibit bitcoin, I think the community and users bitcoin will not disappear completely, they will only reduce the use bitcoin, because they love and need of bitcoin ,

I don't think Bitcoin is banned in either of these countries. But if either country did ban Bitcoin, it wouldn't stop people in that country from owning bitcoin, it would only limit people's ability to convert bitcoin into their currency (in Russia or China) or deposit bitcoin into their currency through their domestic banks.

I don"t agree. When countries ban bitcoin , botcoin"s rate goes down.
When bitcoin goes down less people use it.

How does bitcoin's value (you call it rate) go down if a country bans it? People can still use it, so the demand wouldn't be impacted much.

regardless it is completely banned, illegalized or something like that, its still proven ineffective since russian and chinese still know (or at least, aware) of the existence of bitcoin. But to answer your question, it is simply because the truth is citizens are stronger than government.

As far as I remember it was Russia who had the highest amount of transactions on LocalBitcoins - and China, as we all know, is a giant in the bitcoin space.

So yeah, BTCBTCBTC will live on regardless.

Let's forget about the examples given. A country probably can ban BTC, which would kill all legit use, such as paying your plumber with BTC, but that wouldn't kill BTC. It would only restrict its use to illegal uses, which may include financing terrorists which would overthrow the fascist government which banned BTC.

I think it's not wise to ban BTC.

they cant ban it..

they tried to ban alcohol in the 19th century (prohibition era).. that didnt work out well as people were still getting drunk

Putin has been saying that he would put people involved in cryptocurriencies in jail:

http://cointelegraph.com/news/115472/russias-minfin-wants-to-jail-bitcoin-users-for-4-years

Of course it's not working since the russian users are only growing ass seen in exchange volume.

Noooooo..
coin telegraph said that.. not putin..

this is what putin said

"They are no secured, the money, that's the whole point, is the main problem. They are nowhere really not tied and did not provided. But on the whole, as a unit of calculation as they're called," coin "them You can use it, they are more and more widely spread. As any equivalent in some segments of calculation, probably, probably, "- Putin said at a youth forum" The area on the Klyazma senses. "

Putin said at a forum by Vladimir examined the development of IT-specialists
According to Putin, this issue was discussed with the chairman of the Bank of Russia. "I know the position of our central bank, it is very reasonable, professional, quiet. We did not reject, but there are real serious fundamental problems with extensive use, in any case, today," - said the head of the Russian state.
CB Chairman Elvira Nabiullina in June 2015 stated that the Bank of Russia understands attractive side Bitcoins for consumers, but sees risks of their use, so it will closely monitor the market and, if necessary cryptocurrency regulate it.

in short
its an uninsured risky investment (standard financial advice), which they will monitor and evaluate if it needs regulations.

no where did they say bitcoin was banned for citizens. rumours in 2014 to a law to ban it were not for citizens but for banks internal investment.

sometimes its worth not quoting a secondrate media, and try looking for the source, because cointelegraph really failed this time

I am not sure Russia banned bitcoin banned it. They do not condone it right?
With china the same.

Remember governements can try to keep the people small, but eventually the people will revolt. History has proven this.
