Actually a good poster doesn't seek or source for merits your contribution to the forum would surely get you merits, maybe you have to be bit creative and constructive without focusing all your efforts on how to earn merits. Usually you have to locate the section and area you best suited to start contributing to the board then if your post found helpful to people then merits is sure for you to earn while posting.
Those whose main objective is to earn merit will never actually come up with constructive posts and come up with something creative. Because their only objective is how to get merit. If our aim was not to earn merit, but our aim was to post constructively in the forum or share some important information in the forum, then there would not be so much competition between us to earn merit. We will always think that I share something in the forum so that others can benefit from the information I share. If you have such thoughts then you don't have to worry about merit and you will be happy that everyone has given you merit. So we must think about how to post constructively in the forum rather than how to get merit.

Though I understand that everyone wishes to grow over here so they needs to be wary about merits. Any post that qualifies of receiving merits would surely be merited, so I believe they needs to work very hard and be more creative. Then lastly I noticed the merits of a thing is causing distraction whereby they couldn't focus on gaining the knowledge being shared here than just focusing their efforts on it.

If you've got the right direction, now lock your topic.
That would be good if he lock the topic because the further discussions would keep on streching the same information on how he can get merits and there are plenty of useful posts guiding him the way to get merits. So now locking down the topic is best.

Hi I'm a newbie here and would love to ask for advices on how to have a good background here?

Is merit important and should I interact more?

Can you guys suggest any advice thanks a lot!
It's important and you need to get them if you must rank up...
Try as much as possible to make quality post that will attract people's interest....how ?? Give positive or negative replies (depending on the concept, idea or area of discussion), make good references to the source quote of the idea in question ( just for proper confirmation)...and for the fact that some peeps are usually very inquisitive.
Lastly, I'd advice you to "be yourself" .. don't tryna force out something that's not already imbedded in you; learn and teach in a reciprocating measure, you'll have 'em coming in without stressing out.

OP i just go through your profile and discover that you have been active since the day you created this thread in asking for ways to earn merits, you have also received few on this thread from members of the forum, now you can see that it is possible to get merit if you're active and also contributing, yo the best of my knowledge you often times receives merits on posts you least expect to get merit from, but you have to show it all with your commitment, merit is earned by what quota you're contributing serving as quality post to the reader.
You have some points and from my own knowledge, the best way to earn merit is to make a good contribution on the board that's most targeted by the merit source cause I have seen some people who there most merit is earned in their local. Another way to earn merit is by solving other user issues and creating threads that enlighten the forum, especially the newbies.

I'm having fun by learning new things in here by just reading and interacting with people, I'm suprised how helpful people in here. Thanks a lot!
So have you understood how it works, or do you need more advice on the question?
If you've got the right direction, now lock your topic.

In my opinion, instead of busying yourself to think about things like merit, it is much more useful for you to find out many things about how you can use the information and knowledge spread in the forum for your own improvement. Merit is needed, rank up is also needed, but if you want to change your destiny then try to find out many things about bitcoin and how you can own it. In the end finance is the main issue why people want to buy and invest in bitcoin, so don't waste your time.

If you want to raise your rank here in the forum, you need merit for this to happen. Now, for you to have merit, you must make your post here in the forum that will be useful to all community members on this platform.

It depends on the topic you will make in the forum, you can point to something else here that you think no one has done yet, or you can also make a reaction to an article and give your view that makes sense and lesson learned by anyone who can read. If you do this for sure there will be someone who will give you merit no matter what.

Hi I'm a newbie here and would love to ask for advices on how to have a good background here?
You can have a good background here by staying away from plagiarism, post quality threads and have more time to read than posting. Ask questions on what you find difficult to understand in various boards.

Is merit important and should I interact more?
Merit is the fun here, because it enables you to reach a higher rank in which you can partake in a signature campaign to get a little stipends for wearing their signature and avatar. The higher the rank, the higher your stipends. Your contributions to threads and creating topics that other people will learn from will earn you merits

OP, I see that you have been inactive on the forum for a very long time, 3 years. Was one of the reasons for that a merit requirement for advancement on the forum?
However, I see that you have tried again, after 3 years, and that you have chosen the right approach this time, because based on your honesty and simple question, you have already received 3 merits and you are no longer a newbie member. I'm happy for you and now I hope that you will stay active on the forum now.
It looks like your question got the best possible answer  Grin

Which means that a thread doesn't have to be 3 paragraphs of information before it gets merited. Any understandable thread; question or answer is accepted in the forum and could help the merits of members to increase. If Op has been a registered member for long and didn't rank up then it's not a problem because he decides how to utilize the forum. "not all meat pleaseth all man" Maybe it didn't please him to bother about increasing his merits in the forum. Sometimes a user can leave because the forum is quite complicated and return at a time he is sure his brain capacity can scout the forum and create threads too. Op to get merits is unpredictable, just stay active and drop a readable and an understandable response on threads. The more people sees your seriousness in the forum they'll likely give out some merits. And such merits to me helps me to stay active in the forum reading different thread.

I don't know why you would still refer to yourself as a newbie, despite being registered here in May 2019. That's almost four years, isn't it? You got in here when the merit issue was a hot take and I can't find any reason you didn't have this issue sorted out. Either by deliberate omission or not, I want to hope you didn't have anything that will later expose your account as having done any wrong in the past. Going forward, I guess you should lock this thread to avoid spamming. Your question has been answered. Just read up on all the links supplied you.

Op your topic and the above bolded question are some how dichotomous, you asked how to get merit and still asked again if merit is important. Well merit is important and without merit you can't move forward. It is merit and activity will make account or rank grow. If you are lagging behind in any of the mentioned aboves then you will be stagnant in one place until you have the required merits and activities to move upward.
Now what you have to do now is reading and commenting on other users post or threads, then when you have mastered the forum then you can create threads so others can also make comment on you post just like the way were doing it for others.

Here are some of the things you will do to increase your merits:

1 ) quality Post: improving in quality Post in the platform will really help you to attract other people attention to know that you have go far in research concerning the founder of BTC.

2) impact: ensure any topic you create in the platform will be a type of topic that will impact other people in the community.
3)
don't post because of merits: when you come across a topic that will make people to show interest and you bring it to the forum, I believe it will surely attract merits to you at the end.

Merit is very important for a bitcoin account but if you post only to earn merit you will never succeed and you will lose patience. First of all get rid of the thought of merit and always think about how you can post constructively in the forum. That is, always try to be active in the forum and share the important news from the forum with everyone. When your post is quality and when others read your post and collect some information, you will see many users are satisfied with your post and give you merit. If your goal is to achieve merit then you must change your goal.

Doing this will just make you hypocrite or in denial to get merit. You already said that merit is very important on Bitcointalk account so why you will get rid the thought of earning it. You can always use merit as a goal or inspiration to create a constructive topic or post. There’s nothing wrong to post to get merit except if you are begging for it. In fact there’s a thread that you can share your post you want to received merit which means merit source allow constructive post with a sole purpose to get merit.

I’m always trying to make my post constructive as much as possible so that a merit source or someone might give me merit once they read the content of my post. I’m not doing this get rid the shit of merit just to make my post constructive.

People mainly want Merits so that they can join signature campaigns and (shit)post to earn some ka-ching.

But if you're looking to earn, contribute to the discussions here, or post helpful threads. They will come naturally.

I started participating in discussions in 2018. Took me a whole good 5 years to reach this stage.

I love my merits to come naturally just like your opinion it should be on the discussion where you are knowledgeable and not trying hard to get one, it's very tempting to join campaigns where you are getting paid for doing the things you love doing but its should start from your passion and not from the weekly payment.
Merits are a good motivation and a good incentive to come out with the best post possible so just improve your post and merit will come naturally we have a lot of members who check and read posts because they too learn from these posts so pick the best topic where you are familiar and give your best shot.

To be successful on this forum, I will advise not to prioritize merits hunt first, because you will be so disturbed and distracted from the main focus you're expected to give to the forum while learning, merit is earned and what places you to that capacity of receiving merits is on the quality of what you contributed and how the members feels like in giving you, merit was introduced to lay low spammers and trollers from ranking up, if you think you're not one then work on yourself and give your best and merit will flow.

Act very naturally and try your best to try to learn more and get to know the members' posts and how to work in the forum, then you will see that you have started to receive the Merits automatically.

Constructive posts and good topics, whether it is questions or new information, is the best way to receive Merits, but you have to do it naturally, meaning with the aim of discussion and really learning, without caring whether you got Merits or not.

It may take some time but I am sure you will get good results in the end.

It can be said that the OP is not new to crypto. It appears from the posts that you, OP, are trading and familiar with Bitcoin, so I think it won't be a problem for you to move up the ranks. Furthermore, it all depends on your activity. You have a big break in posting, just visit the forum more often and share your knowledge, I'm sure you will get what you desire quickly. Good luck. You seem still hanging for advice 😉

Eat it!
Be a scam buster LOL
Sinuously, go check everyone's profile, police them and open reputation thread for them, ask others to help you to find evidence.

Go to altcoin announcement board check every project that are launching their ANN. Look for plagiarism, or missing team members. You don't need to even look for anything. Start just by saying the domain registered a month or week ago. 🤣

You can also look for bounty cheaters. Link the addresses they posts and accuse them for bounty cheating.

Another one is to find alt accounts. You don't need much thing to do. Just tell that they are changed hand. Quote few posts and booyah! You will become a hero.

Or just go and speak against the sportsbook that is hated by a specific group of people LOL

First of all, if you have registered on this forum to learn about Bitcoin, then you should spend more time learning about Bitcoin. And if you get enough knowledge, you yourself will be able to write articles to teach others. The question of how to get/earn merit will take your aim in different directions. It is important to clear the objective first, because if you post effectively and those posts are helpful to other members, you will already get a lot of merit.

Since we have similar rank positions, it would be rude for a newbie to give advice.
The desire for something will be realized depending on the effort.
Since I joined the forum on November 06, 2022, you can see for yourself that my activities are only 22 (including this post). At first glance, I am a user who has a habit of being a little lazy.
Maybe if I am the opposite of lazy, namely actively reading and writing according to the topic of discussion, at least we are not in the current position even though it is not necessarily achieved.

I'm not trying to say or insinuate you, but I'm talking about my bad habits.
Yes, maybe from some threads that have been around for a long time, I can understand that merit is important and how to get it based on what I have read by making quality posts, namely informative posts and posts that contain solutions to trending problems.

Merit is important, but shouldn't be your first chase on this forum, you will need time to learn and grow first, after which much shall be required of you as well to offer to the community growth, from the quality of what you offered, members may got touched from what you're contributing and on their wish they may merit your post, also if you think you're posting good enough to receive merits, you can apply to some merit giveaway threads but they only give to quality post that meet up to their required standard.

Hi I'm a newbie here and would love to ask for advices on how to have a good background here?
What do you exactly mean the background here? If you are saying about having sufficient knowledge then it would come by learning with time and spending time on forum reading different threads that will enhance your knowledge giving you solid background but if you mean something else then specify about it?

Is merit important and should I interact more?
I would say merits are important only to increase your rank but most importantly you should focus on increasing your knowledge and interacting more here with others actively engaging in healthy discussions that will help you to gain knowledge which will eventually help you in writing quality posts and you will automatically get merits. So you see how this prime goal of growing yourself up from knowledge perspective will help you to accomplish all other goals. So as newbie just gain as much you can.

I will take note of this. Since I still don't have any idea why people chase merits all I know is that it can cause you to have a good background! And I agree when posting a topics that are educative.
Merit is needed to rank up, that is one of the conditions that you must fulfill so that you can rank up.

Read here:

Of course, you should get used to interacting with multiple forum users, not just on one board, but across multiple boards or elsewhere if you understand the topic and know what to write about. This will encourage you to gain knowledge, and of course it will also help you earn merit. Good luck.

How can I increase my merit?
I just checked your profile and you don't have any merits let alone asking how to increase it.
The right question you should ask is, "how can I earn merits?"
To answer how you will earn merits.
First you have to understand what you are good at, develop more on it and then start helping people solve their problems.
The more problems you solve here, the more merits you will have.
So you have to give out something in order to recieve.
But do not be too merit conscious, because if you are, you may never earn it.

Knowledge that you have, thoughts that you have is very much appreciated here, whether it's about Bitcoin, crypto wallets, development, reputation, speculation, economics, law and so on you can see on every discussion board, including in your local Philippines, what do you have about it, that's the best background if you have it.

Is merit important and should I interact more?
What's your reason for registering an account here on the forum? If it's to learn more about Bitcoin and invest a bit when you've acquired more knowledge, then the forum ranks and politics should not really bother you. Merits would more or less be pats on the back for an educative post or response.

But if you are more focused on advancing in the forum, knowing how it works beyond the rules and maybe entering a signature campaign, then you should understand how ranks work.

Secondly, you should not interact more than you wish to. If reading and learning without commenting works for you, do that

Write quality content and try to be helpful and you won't have any issues getting merit. Write shitposts and spam posts and you won't get any merit, no matter how many posts you create.

Generally speaking: Try to find your way around the forum, read up, learn about the forum features and try to help other members. Then you won't have any problems getting merit.

One more thing before I forget, plagiarism results in a permanent ban and there's no second chance. So be sure to cite the sources from quotes or articles.
Plagiarism is a most hardest rule in Bitcoin talk even it has been handled less strictly past two years. It is still one of rule every member should keep in mind.
33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.[e]

  • Plagiarism: If you copy some text from somewhere, then you should have a good reason for it, and you must link to the source. Doing otherwise is plagiarism. Changing a few words around doesn't matter. If we find that you plagiarized, then you absolutely will be permanently banned, even if we find it years after you did it.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/signature-campaign-guidelines-read-this-before-starting-or-joining-a-campaign-1684035.0
Warning: Anyone caught copying other users' posts or plagiarising content from elsewhere on the web will be immediately permabanned. You shouldn't need a warning to know that this isn't acceptable under any circumstances.

Plagiarsism QA topics. I don't think new topics about plagiarism are necessary including good guidelines to avoid plagiarism and permanent ban.

And when you post a new topic, let it be educative and have meaning rather than asking questions that will only fetch merits to good posts underneath.
I disagree with this, that you should only make a new topic when you want to educate others and not when you want to ask question and its one of the common misconception that cause newbies getting into troubles, thinking that they have to be knowledgeable in order to get merit so they plagiarize someone else's content.

Its perfectly normal thing to come to a forum asking for help with something (or simply wanting to learn more) and sometimes this can be more worthwhile than a generic newbie guide we often see in Beginners & Help board that is nothing but a merit fishing.

That's a lot of dedication right there! Thanks for the information though I just started earlier and I think it's a good start. Have a nice day!

No worries, you should do fine. One more thing before I forget, plagiarism results in a permanent ban and there's no second chance. So be sure to cite the sources from quotes or articles.

You have a great one as well Smiley

Is merit important and should I interact more?
Merit is needed to progress in the rank ladder, nothing more.

Now higher ranks are able to join signature campaigns with higher pay so it ends up being a merit-hunting game for many users on this forum. After all who does not want some coins from discussions in this forum?

Do read old threads, post regularly, solving problems and helping others, you will eventually gather enough merits to grow your account's rank. Obviously the merit sources are biased towards older users, but you can become a "newbie of the month" too.

Well, I see merits as a by product of a properly arranged, constructive and educated post. Is it important? Yeah. As it gives you the motivation to do more. But mind you, in your search for merits while you post, ensure to be open to criticism as this helps you grow.
To the b part of your question: yeah, you def need to interact more. (Intelligently, if I might add) as this helps to broaden your horizons and makes for more room to research and do better.

Many had shared important links that will help you so there is no need for me to be repeating what they had written. However, I will like you to have it at the back of your mind that the more you chase merits the less you would get. Let it chase you, just let your posts be of quality, be natural, and the merit will certainly chase you.

And when you post a new topic, let it be educative and have meaning rather than asking questions that will only fetch merits to good posts underneath.

I will take note of this. Since I still don't have any idea why people chase merits all I know is that it can cause you to have a good background! And I agree when posting a topics that are educative. I'm having fun by learning new things in here by just reading and interacting with people, I'm suprised how helpful people in here. Thanks a lot!

Is merit important and should I interact more?
For some, yes. But you are not obliged to interact with the forum. You can just be a silent lurker and learn from here.
