these things take time! since we are talking about adoption. but it will eventually happen. for starters the smaller businesses will start accepting bitcoin as payment, then more people come in and eventually bigger ones like Amazon for example will start accepting bitcoin and by that time you can say bitcoin is "viral".

as for cryptocurrencies in general, they first need to work on being secure and usable so that they can have something to say in competition with bitcoin and also with other payment systems.

If we want to make the crypto go viral all over the world, first we need to use the crypto currencies for payments in all possible ways and it may encourage other people to do will cause good impact of the bitcoin users. But until now people thinks bitcoin is for highly techno oriented person like hackers so we need to break that mindset by using it ourselves.

We should encourage payment in cryptocurrencies like transferring the crypto-coin instead of the fiat currencies to family members and friends. Also, we can offer  cryptocurrencies gifts to loved ones and people  in festive times like birthday, wedding, or anniversary

It already has gone viral - it's literally had it's moment of fame, and I'm not entirely sure it's going to have another one. Bitcoin had it's hype; in-fact, IMO more hype than I originally expected considering the amount of everyday individuals asking me about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

If Bitcoin or Crypto is going to go viral, it's going to be because of another price increase, but I don't believe it will be as "viral" as the first increase upwards of $25k a pop.

I think the best way to make bitcoin go viral is just by an individual hodlers or bitcoin users or the enthusiast,  we should all stand by it first in our different domain we find ourselves before go out to propagate it to other people,  by this I think we'll make bitcoin go viral at it's maximum.

The answer is simple, we need some killer application or game linked to Bitcoin payments for this to go viral. Image if a popular online game like say, "Fortnite" would allow only Bitcoin payments for add-ons and skins or one of the popular mmorpg games like, ArcheAge, Rift, Lord of the Rings Online.  Roll Eyes

These games have millions of players and if they bought stuff regularly, then Bitcoin would go viral very quickly. The thing is, governments does not acknowledge Bitcoin as a currency.  Angry

I would start with friends and family, tell them how crypto has grown over the last ten years and maybe open them all a wallet and stick them in a few coins as a gift, like Xmas, Hanukkah or Eid is a good time to give out a few and tell them how to use the wallets etc. Despite our finances not being very good this year due to the bear market, we are going to give a few crypto gifts to close relatives, just small bags and like my father in law he is going to sell his house in the U.K so he will buy several Bitcoin he said and will hold them and he has a couple of other crypto he is holding. My step son will also get a small crypto gift as well. Just what we can afford to get him started.

For this post I would interprete viral, as mass global adoption.
As holders, you can improve awareness about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies I'm your locality and take advantage of options to purchase goods and services and use bitcoin for payment. Which would help improve it's popularity.

Bitcoin has already gained global attention from governments and the financial sector over the years, and majority of people are aware of the rough idea if the concept. So in a way it has gone viral

Segwit is being used to increase scalability and this would go a long way in making it more suited able as an accredited alternative to fiat and an accepted currency.

I think no one is replacing crypto coins with other coins especially if talking that they will create it themselves will be very difficult to happen because crypto will be one of the goals for all users to get it.

Just try to spread to the people around you who don't know cryptocurrency. tell them how much money you have gained from cryptocurrency and how is cryptocurrency works. People around you will be interested to join using cryptocurrency if you telling them like this...

Well for me, when I read first the question, there is only thing that comes into my mind that answers this question, in which how can we make crypto into viral, and that is, make and spread several fact news, announcements and updates about crypto currencies which positively influence the community. A good great and positive news will make more people to become more curious regarding the crypto and will eventually engage to it.

fact news will not lure people they will just enlighten on what and how crypto works it is better if they will engage for real, it will be hard to do that because it really needs the cooperation of the government and the well known establishment.

crypto is a currency people can choose to use.
"crypto" means cryptography! it is not a currency! Wink

We need to build it as good as possible so that people who choose it, can.

i think you already answered your own question here! the cryptocurrencies that are being created are pretty bad and if you want to see any of them be adopted, used, or go viral they first have to start being a lot better than this!

I think that your vision is wrong because not all coin nor all people do that there are real icos making their token truly value-added I think yes this form is essential the token has the added value to its name people confuse with property of action

I don't think there's really a point in making it go viral. That already happened last December, and basically everyone has heard about it. It's very likely that those who were even remotely interested has already entered, and maybe even left the market. It's even a pop culture reference now.  That's not going to happen a second time unless it has something new to offer.

Is rapid adoption that necessary?

It doesn't necessarily have to be rapid, but it's for sure going to be welcome. Either way, Bitcoin is still a work in progress, so we probably shouldn't stress about its usage yet. If it turns out to be as good as advertised, adoption should follow naturally. For now, spending and supporting the ecosystem is the best we can do to help it.

For bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general to go viral, viral as in everyone uses it, it's going to need to be very easy to use. It's going to be quite difficult to get people to use 12-24 word phrases as their backups instead of using something significantly easier like a username and a password. And no, using a centralized wallet like Coinbase isn't a good solution as it completely defeats the whole purpose of being your own bank.

It currently works well as a store of value though(minus the volatility), for the decently tech savvy person(mostly millennials). It's just going to be quite difficult for the older folks. I mean, I couldn't even get my parents to remember their passwords.

Cryptocurrency(the bitcoin in particular)has already gone viral, it's everywhere in the news, the government talks about it now and then, some stores now accept it as a medium of payment etc, it's done very well to spread the world over in a short space of time(anyone who hasn't heard of the bitcoin possibly lacks access to the internet or lives in a remote village in some 3rd world countries)

You can obviously do your bit by talking to friends and relatives about the bitcoin, and also getting to patronize stores/online shops that accept payments via the currency

Now, crypto is a currency people can choose to use. They don't have to. We need to build it as good as possible so that people who choose it, can. And those of us who want and have time and resources, focus on building good showcases, demonstrating that it works. Is rapid adoption that necessary? We need to be able to learn as we scale upwards. Right now, we're in the middle of the development after having learnt that "on-chain isn't the be-all end-all scaling solution". It was a fight getting here, and in the end the big-blockers went and created their own coin, which I think was good for all parties. Has it gone viral already, in a way?
