Well if you wanted to do that then you should buy "Bitcoin Cash". Although I will warn you there is much drama in Bitcoin recently and it is hard to tell which one of these coins will emerge victorious in the end.

Bitcoin Unlimited by itself is not a hard fork. It is rather a tool to help the ecosystem to find consensus about a blocksize limit increasing hardfork and execute it. It just enables nodes and miners to agree or disagree with a change. When the majority agrees that it is needed, it can be done. Bitcoin Unlimited is not a contradiction to developer-proposed blocksize limits, to public debates or to flag day activation. Bitcoin Unlimited is not a hardfork to an unlimited blocksize. It is a tool to raise the blocksize limit without splitting the network. An instrument to find and execute consensus.

If I wanted to buy BCU (bitcoin unlimited) bitcoins instead of the traditional BTC (bitcoin core) bitcoins, how do I do that?  Do only certain exchanges have them currently?
After hard fork you will actually get same amount of coins in both BTC and BTU if you hold your bitcoin in address which is under your control (i.e. you have private keys of those addresses) before hard fork which is yet to happen.

So does anyone actually know when this this bitch is about to drop?

So we can go home already and stop speculating on whats going to happen. Roll Eyes

Yeah, I totally agree with you because it seems we are spending too much time speculating the future of this fork which us yet to be implemented. We are better off using our time for something else rather than speculate for weeks.

thats very risky better off holding BTC and then trading BCC / BCU once its for real.
for all we know core will roll out a 2MB hard fork and we will delay this split another year.
The exchanges are already having huge volumes in trading BTU,i am not sure how those things will work out but i am sure that the core will increase the block size to 2 MB and settle the heat for now and in the mean time they can come up with a durable solution to take the bitcoin in the future where it can handle more transactions .

BTU coins will happen in fact they are the next bitcoin imo in terms of popularity.
You are really ignorant to say so, they are a bunch of greedy people who wants to control what is a decentralized process and they wanted to make the maximum profit out of it and they wanted to do that with an theory rather than having a good code. It wont be popular and it will die off soon.

The baby BU has not yet born.I hope it would be soon aborted before its birth for the progress of bitcoin. Its useless to buy BU coins. It will not exist and will disappear in coarse of time.

I don't think BU can happen currently, if you look at the real support levels, its very low compared with Core. Something big would have to happen in order for that to change.

how many hours do you figure it'll take?

Bitcoin unlimited is not yet launch, let's see what will happen next. So do you think those exchanges that have already the tokens is worth buying? What will happen now to BTC? Could it recover again from issues it facing, I hope so...

The Chinese exchanges have already started bidding for BTU and if you are looking to buy some then you can purchase in those exchanges and the current rate is 0.06 BTC for BTU and when there is a split you would automatically get both the coins if you are holding the coins in your wallet.

You can only buy tokens at Bitfinex right now but doing that move is kinda risky since we're still not entirely sure whether there would be a hard fork or no. But if you really want to speculate on the said fork, might as well just do it on your own because with your own coins, you, in theory, have both coins and it's you who would decide on what to use and where to use them to.

BitFinex has a BCU token trading with USD and BCC.

Any and every bitcoin that you buy today is simultaneously BOTH a Bitcoin Unlimited coin AND a Bitcoin Core coin.  This is because they are both compatible right now.

If you store the bitcoins in your own wallet, then you will have full control and if there ever is a fork, YOU will get to choose what you WANT to do on each fork with your coins.

If you store the bitcoins in an account with a service (such as Coinbase, BitStamp, Bitfinex, Localbitcoins, etc), then they will have full control and if there ever is a fork, THEY will get to choose what you are ALLOWED to do on each fork with your coins.

As far as I know it is not still available until the fork is implemented. And if the fork is implemented they say that it will be an altcoin so I am not interested in it.

The hard fork hasn't been initiated yet. So there are no BTU coins.
Exchanges have been talking about what they will do in case there is a hard fork. Everything is purely hypothetical.
