When we mention PR, it is important to say that coin value is increased for coins with a large community and user, who actually use the coin for the same purpose than bitcoin is used. If so the coin is a disruptive force to the current banking sector --> deserves some value.

I think it depends on the marketing job and those who work with the marketing. They are very good in advertising and attracting investors. That is why they can easily get millions dollars in just a few hours

Marketing and a great team behind it. Thats what I look for so I don't think thats too uncommon. I got my eye on a few just because of those facts.

I've seen some ICO's raise $25 million in 15 minutes. Is that through their existing populairty, Public Relations team or what???

$25 million in 15 minutes.  Cheesy Cheesy  Just beware that not all ICO are real. Sometimes the dev shows the wrong stats or self buy coins  with other people name so as to make a drama of lot of people investing in the ICO and this may lead more people invest in real and dev can run away with the funds. Just be sure to investigate more in such type of ICO, before investing your money.

Some great marketing, Innovation, trust, bonuses (usually for those who invest in first 24 hrs) and also some greed. PR also matter when it comes to find investors.

it is mainly greed in my opinion!
most of these projects are simply over-hyped. they use a lot of different techniques to advertise it, and in the end we all see the ICO coin holders sell their coins at the first sign of the coin being listed on an exchange. it seems like this method is the new method of making money which has replaced the pre-mine strategy!

you can call it popularity, or you can call it a good advertising team who knows how to lure people into investing Wink
Yep greed. They are so greedy that they will do anything. Their greed will make them do anything. It doesn’t matter what the consequences are for that extra dollar they will do anything. You can get rich like that but there are of course a lot of side effects. I don’t think they really know what they are doing though because money gotten that easy is not spent well.

In my opinion its really depend in the project its self information features values in the market exchangers sites design and many aspect of the coins the succes of the coin depend in the fund raised during the campaign but investor dont just invest but having a deep research in. The ico so its really depend in the development.

A mix of previous successful crowdsales, very specialized buyers and early adopters who possess significant Bitcoin investment example Winkeveli and finally a hunger for diversification and ownership of a new sphere of tech with viable approaches and innovations to the current ecosystem.
But Good Marketing always helps though and it needs to be a decent idea first ^^.

ICO's becomes more successful based on the platform the development team chose for the functioning along with the different promotion techniques used to make it more valuable. Importantly the funding is a must to promote and get listed to exchanges. Most ICO gets off with the presale.
Almost all of the ICO i am seeing are based on the Ethereum platform and i am not sure how much long these trends continue but for now these things are interesting to make a good profit and their method of advertisement makes the project successful according to me,as you have to let everyone know about the project to attract investors.

ICOs don't really happen in a day. They really offer it up maybe in months time or so, they will offer it maybe in the first week with a lot of bonuses and it becomes less and less in the next coming weeks. Also advertisements help there success hoping for the Altcoin and Bitcoin community to participate in their new altcoin launch. Altogether with the hype of buyers they can persuade the market in making the price to go up if they are offering it in altcoin exchanges.

You are right. The work to make an ICO successful is done months ahead of the opening. Otherwise, it might not be able to fly and failed ICO can be hard to relaunch. Investing in ICO can be so profitable but we have to be careful as there are really ICOscam.

The icos you see are not just in a few hours. It may have only been posted on here for a day or two, but they have it posted other places first.

They have PR teams that create social media accounts to put out hype and information. They target people who they know want to invest large sums of money in the next "big thing".

Lately more and more icos are giving coins to the investors. The investors a lot of the time dump the coins for easy profit when it is listed on an exchange. A lot of this is really a pump and dump.

Some coins will have real value and use years from now. It takes awhile for people to get used to a coin and what it is going to accomplish. ETH was 60 cents for awhile and started to take off because of all the deals they made with other companies and their innovation. Most new coins arent like this and will just fail.

Remember that investing in an ico is like investing in a small business that has a lot of risk.

Interesting project, good develop team and great marketing. If your project is interesting and doable and you write white paper that explain the project very well, you can attract more investor. Add good team background on top of that to ensure potential investor that your team can do the project, and the last is bringing the hype using good marketing.

If you say you have seen some..how about you name them?

There are two explanation for large amounts:
human greed combined with stupidity and a team doing a very good as painting a ponzi scheme as an investment.

The alt section is a grave of more than hundred of those ico and ipo and hippos.

Depends.

Sometimes just a bluff to attract more investors. Sometimes it's really $10 or 15 million and not $25.
Yeah definitely! It's all about attracting investors so they'll do as much as lie to the public to achieve what they need to!

Who said all ICOs are successful. If we see in term of data, I guess 8 of 10 ICOs fail in long run.
However, certain ICOs like QTUM in recent days do come up as successful. The only reason I guess in solid pre-plans and innovation. QTUM project spent around $1 million in its advertising prior to ICO
I'm not generalizing here, I said SOME ICO's not ALL! ...And that's quiet a budget if you ask me but nevertheless, they probably earned it all back in minutes!

There is no ICO that is successful in just a few hours because it is impossible and i believe that it takes a lot of time before you will see an ICO as a successful project. It is all depend on the white paper and also the road map of the ICO if their coin or service offers good quality and if yes then it will attract a lot of investors that will make their project successful.

$25 million in 15 minutes Shocked can you Name any of such ICO  Roll Eyes
I don't think this is practically possible if it was not funded by some private investor within few minutes of ICO opening. I have seen SONM getting 10000 ETH = $1,000,000 ($1 million) within 10 hours during their Pre-ICO and that was possible because tech behind this project is quite promising and also their Developer team looks competent.

Public relations team and different social campaigns are key for ICO success but project also need to have good dev team behind and should have real life application.
Trust me, there's been a few but obviously not close to that amount. Here's the link of the example Im taking about -----> https://cointelegraph.com/news/biggest-ever-ico-jackpot-netted-by-ethereum-based-aragon-despite-bad-actor
