How do you check the balance of a paper wallet (in cold storage).

It's nice to reassure yourself a few times a week that your entire balance is still there lol.

 Grin
Just write your address into searchbox on blockchain.info

Other than checking your address balance on block explorers, you could also make a watch-only wallet to keep track of your balance. It is convenient if you have multiple paper wallets and don't want to check the address balance one by one.

or just load your balance in a safe machine

But it will no longer be a cold storage once you put your private keys on a machine with internet connection.
i think what he means is just a "watch only" wallet where you only insert the address to be watched for balance changes

All transactions are in public blockchain, everone can check there what amount is at any address.

Thanks for that.
Typing them in one by one is a bitch.

Interesting that you can search the balance of any public address.

You can see the balance that fellow posters here have in their wallets (the donation addresses in their sig any way)

Bitcoin #1! People can see that you have millions of dollars but if you made the wallet securely, they will never be able to access those funds!

They probably have other addresses with stored Bitcoins.

Thats one of the key features of BTC. There is a transparent public ledger.

You can check the balance using any blockchain explorer.

Whatever you do, don't put all your stash on one paper wallet.  Break it into a few denominations like you'd do with regular money.

Like you wouldn't have a single $1000 bill lying around, you'd have a few hundred, a few twenties, etc all split up accordingly.

I split my stash into '5 BTC' paper wallets mate.

It's the best advice going to be fair.

I also have two copies of each wallet laminated.

For this reason, use separate wallets for different sites and do not transfer or use your normal wallets with these addresses.  Grin

People follow bread crumbs to your treasures. Leave your stash in cold storage/paper wallets.

Install a app on your phone like this one.

Is this app compatible with all smartphone ?

This one is for Android. I think there would also be a iPhone version.
