Hmmmmmm None at all.
Because of investing, I became emotionless already. F*ck investing.

Kidding aside, I don't feel anything at all. I'm not a top-tier poster, but I can't consider myself as a shitposter either so if somebody gives me merit then I'm grateful but not to the point that I'll be happy or smiling (even though I'm using many emojis in my posts). I'm just sharing my opinions here base on what I know and if somebody sees it very useful or helpful and gives me merit then I'm grateful to them.
I saw some unique responses and your responses are also different from the others and it adds to my insight in taking an idea or conclusion, therefore I can't equate my guess at each person's response with others. because there will always be someone who has a special or unique response. like you. like a feeling of emptiness. feeling flat or empty.

even the majority of people mention happy. but actually it's not the same. The fun has its own level. like you are happy but not smiling widely, some are happy to smile broadly, some are happy to grow more spirit or motivated (booster), and some are happy to the extent of gratitude and gratitude, some are even happy to feel the whole day, and some are happy to make them feel proud of themselves, and some are happy and want more so they keep trying harder to improve quality in order to get it back. and many more that cannot be mentioned.

As for myself, I am among those who are happy to receive it and become more excited.

How do you feel if your question or answer recieve good number of upvotes in quora?
How about when your karma increases in reddit.
How do you also feel when your post on Facebook recieves many likes, I meant when you maybe update your profile picture.
How do you feel when your tweet is trending on twitter.
All these things might not mean any serious thing for some persons, but for an average user in all these platforms, they feel happy, honored and recognised by the community.
In general, I feel nice when I receive merits especially if I create a topic and merits lands on them in numbers, it makes feel that I am a good user of this forum.

Similar to how some have responded, I was more enthusiastic about it at the beginning. Now that I know I have the necessary merits to reach Legendary, I like it, but it is a much more routine feeling than before. I guess that also happens because I am not and will not be fighting in the top ten of earned merit, which I guess those who are there feel differently.
For sure those top ten merit earners of all time from the beginning of this forum will be so proud of their achievements. Cause we all know that nowadays,  it's hard to get merits if you your self did not contribute well to this community. And also it's hard to rank up after the merit system was implemented here in the forum. And those knowledgable and good contributors here will be recognized and will be known .

Frankly, I am pleased to receive merit. This was especially true on the way to the next rank. At first, every merit evoked pleasant emotions. On the one hand, this meant approaching a Sr. member rank that I really aspired to, since it seemed quite achievable for me and required relatively little merit. On the other hand, it served as a marker for me (actually, this is still the case ) that my posts were appreciated positively and someone liked it and even turned out to be useful. Now, after some time, I perceive merit more calmly if they are given to me, but I worry if I don't receive them for a long time. This serves as a signal that my posts are not that good and I need to work on their quality.

Always happy I am always when I am gifted with a merit. When one appreciates the effort and contributions you gave in a particular topic, it gives you joy of value for your hard work. At the same time you feel bad when you're not merited enough for a particular post or contribution you've done. It tends to kill the moral of doing more next time. But whether merited or not just have in mind that you're here to learn and learning never ends. You’ll be  soo appreciated more  one day beyond expectations.

Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
If you work hard on something, it's a good feeling getting acknowledged and rewarded for it. On this forum, the way to show appreciation to someone's efforts is to merit their posts. Merits have more value than likes on social media and they are not the same thing. You can like every single post on FB, if you want to. You can't merit posts here unless you have the needed sMerits to do it. And you won't get merited unless you contribute in ways that others will like and appreciate.

I don't know how to tell you how I feel about getting the merit. It seems just like you, I too was a user who registered on the forum after the merit system was introduced and it's a nice feeling when someone merited my opinion regardless of whether they don't say the quality. Happy, motivated to do better, and also want to help other users to have the same feeling.

I once made a thread about my journey on the forum to reach Legendary, you can understand that as a reason that it's a great expression of how I feel about merit.

If someone merited our post we feel so exciting's to do more work hard and make quality post or let's say once we got merit we are motivated.
Because if we got merit meaning of that we are finally contributed to this community. And also when someone rank up to the next level beginners will get motivates as well they do what are going to do as a begginers to gain merits and reach what others already achieve.

The question is
How do you feel when someone gives you MERIT?

And I'm sorry that when I created this topic, I didn't have the smerit that I could give to appreciate those who participated in responding to my topic. so I can only say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PARTICIPATING AND RESPONDING TO MY INTEREST.
although I'm not really looking for "merit", I certainly feel happy if my post is given "merit" because it means someone is satisfied with my post...

Merit ruined my life.
I'm sorry to hear that. Too bad I can't un-merit you.
Have you talked to theymos about it?  Cheesy

I immediately imagined what would happen if the un-merit feature was installed, then we would see a lot of accounts with spam posts going to "give up" lol.

I get a brief gratifying sensation when a post of mine is awarded merit especially when I put a lot of energy into creating the post. Merits is a form of acknowledgment that the forum sees you and values your contribution. In my POV without the merit system, spammers would not even know they are spammers they would just rank up like everybody else.

How I feel when someone gives me merit?
I guess I see it as an acknowledgment that I prepared and wrote content that helped someone or contributed to this forum.
It’s much easier to show that you like someone’s content on social media than on a forum.
In this way, we inspire and encourage each other, and reward someone's effort and contribution to the forum. At least that's how I see it  Grin
Of course, it’s not the same feeling when you get merit as a new member or as an old member who is already legendary.

Well, I thought this question was really easy to answer, but I wrote this post for almost 20 minutes and kept deleting my sentences because I couldn't explain it! Lol. I would just answer it in simple terms: it makes you happy! That's all. It is like you have been commended by someone because of your writing or of what you have done. Mostly, I am not one of those posters here that gets a merit every day, so it is really rare. That is why the happiness it could bring me is like my parents buying me an ice cream when I was a child, but after I finish it, I will forget the happiness and want/eager to get more!

You are right . I myself think this is an easy question when I see this post. but when I started to write the answer it turned out that there were many elements that I had to pay attention to, namely remembering the moment when I was rewarded and pouring it into writing honestly. and sometimes it is very difficult to put feelings into words. so the word happy is the right one. How do you feel when someone gives you MERIT?

Personally, when someone gives me merit I get a warm fuzzy feeling all over.  I'd liken it to peeing your pants in the freezing cold.  The instant relief from cold as the warmth dribbles down your legs, heating everything in it's path with no regard for the consequence.  This is what merit feels like to me.

Even better than receiving though, is giving away that sweet sweet merit.  I enjoy spraying merit all over the boards for everyone to share in that warm fuzzy feeling with me.  I always look for opportunities to shoot merit on those who have yet to receive it in the hopes that it helps remove some cold from their day as well.  Warm fuzziness for all!

The question is
How do you feel when someone gives you MERIT?

Honestly, I feel indifferent when someone merits my post, but on the other hand, I am happy, and my happiness isn't cus of the merit itself, my happiness is more on the fact that someone or a group of persons actually finds my post valuable which is why they merited it.

The thing is, it is better to put your 100percent focus on making valuable posts that people will actually learn something new from, or confirm a knowledge they already have, it is better to focus on that than to pay more attention to making posts and anticipate to get merited.
With the first, you have peace of mind, whether your post gets merited or not, and you did be amazed how naturally the merit will come, but on the later(that is when you put all your focus on making posts for merit), you will be stressed out by the end of the day, cus all day, you will keep thinking of getting merit and this will make you to keep checking your post to see if someone merited you, and if in the end you didn't get merited, you will become disappointed and also become discouraged if after making 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 different posts and none of it earned you any merit.
This is one of the reasons why we have a lot of inactive accounts especially from newbies who try all they can to get merits, and when they don't get it, they get discouraged and leave the forum.

So it is better to focus on making posts other members will find valuable than making post with the sole purpose of getting merits.

Speaking for me then back in the days when i got first merit on my post it was immense joy as @theymos introduced the merit system and to rank up we need it along with activity and it was like my goal to reach the next rank which was senior member. It took me some time to be participant of this race as stated learning more and became dedicated towards growing my knowledge and rank up on the forum.Afterwards whenever i got some merits it boost my morale and zeal to more quality poster on the forum.

At first I didn't think merit was important. but when I was given the merit for the first time it turned out to be a pleasant impression. although I didn't really understand how to use it at first. but after receiving it I became a little learn it.

ohh yeah i have a user on this forum that amazes me . namely those whose merit reaches 10,000 and I forget the names of those who are still in the 9000s. I saw the posts made by them. because I wonder how they can have so many. and I check each of their posts and it turns out that my curiosity is satisfied. see the quality of their posts which are indeed of high quality and deserve an award. I am motivated by them in the regularity and quality of posts on this forum. I hope to be like them in the future in this forum. if this forum still exists. but I'm sure this forum, God willing, will continue to exist.

How do you feel when someone gives you MERIT?
I don't think it is a necessary matter to be discussed. This question is the same as when you ask someone about "how he/she feels when getting a gift?". It is not a proper topic to be discussed in Meta. IMO

We know people view merit differently. Each person may have a different perception about the importance of merit, it can be an extraordinary thing, a usual thing, or a useless thing. Some people probably think merit as a form of appreciation for our post quality, so they try to improve their post quality. While in another case, people may think merit is only applied to valuable information, so they do more often share valuable information. But there are some people even don't care about merit because they think merit is useless. They never use merit for any purpose, and they assume merit never be a measure of member quality. According to this assumption, we can conclude how they feel once getting merits. No need to ask the question.

It has been discussed many times here in the forum, how to get merits, how you feel when your post got merited, how to earn merits and etc. But to this topic only thing I can say is that don't do against the rule in order to get merits, like plagiarism (copying someone text and then posting it here) or ( begging for merits) that's prohibited in this community and to earn it. Don't stop contributing here in forum and make good quality post then I assure merits will come.

In short I've tried to include it in this thread, but it may not describe my true feelings about the merit system.

As far as I understand and experience, the merit system has motivated me to post something useful. Some people may still think it's bullshit but of course we have a different point of view. Every time someone gives me merit on a post, then I will usually try to read it again why the post is useful for them or others. I don't know if it's good or bad for me to keep doing it, but there's a nice feeling when I manage to hit a new milestone for the amount of merit I've earned.

I actually thought that I couldn't get any merit or even a single merit at all but I was advised that this forum is not about merit but doing the things that this forum is what it's supposed to be which is share, learn, discuss and help. Though there are some people who didn't do those things but only came here to spam, scam and earn without thinking the things that it bring to bitcointalk forum. Because of that, the forum's staff work double time to delete those spam messages. By the way, it made me feel happy that I received a merit which made me think that I also did contribute to the forum ny receiving a merit especially from those well known forum users.

Hello Leo! You can still win.
There is a power in merits. When you recieve merits, it's either you experience the positive or negative aspect of the power.
When I was a newbie, I didn't know the much essence of merits. I created a somewhat controversial topic which led to divers option and counter opinions from reputable members. I received so many attacks because the forum members believed I was relatively new to make such a proposal. The topic didn't receive a merit, but when I started engaging users in the comment session, I was surprised when I received merit from someone who didn't align with my idea, but due to I presented a resounding and solid argument, I was merited by him.
Honestly, that singular act gave me a whole lot of understanding about the merit system and how it works. On a norms, I wouldn't merit someone who is opposing my view, but with the merit system, the story is different.

How do the people I have given merit feel? Do they have the same feelings as me like being happy and feeling valued. or each level has a different feeling.
I guess everyone here then felt the same way receiving merit the first few weeks/months it was instituted. Now I can say the feelings are different. Some users don't care any more whether they receive it or not, especially if they're highly ranked to legendary.

When I saw merits on it which were 4 from different senior members I felt like someone that just won an academic award. And seriously that even affected my mood throughout the day and was where my love for the forum escalated.
This is reason enough to merit any newbie who has meaningful posts out there. You never can tell how that makes their day. This is why we all have to share love, life doesn't end in this forum.

To merit or not to merit, that is the question.

When it was first implemented back in 2018, it was satisfying actually like you got someone's attention but overtime it felt like it is just similar to me getting upvoted in Reddit through comments (I do not post a lot lol) and it just happened that I do not look at the merit count anymore when I post in here. I just wanted to join into conversations about any topics that I seem to be interested and that's it.

It is also similar to me by the way when I get reacts from any sort of Facebook posts I made, and I don't even know anymore how much is that "99+" notification to me right now nor do I care. Cheesy

Somehow someone will be so eager to express their feelings when they get merit 1,2,3,4 and so on. I felt burned because of the merit system at first because I almost got promoted to become a Hero member (I mentioned several times), and I've felt stuck for a while but for my efforts in terms of improving and improving the quality of posts since then I'm enjoying the results now because the Legendary has been achieved.

Some of the feelings about getting merit of course will probably be the same among most people as it can be used as fuel to burn your motivation to earn more to rank up. But I'm sure some would still be different especially if merit wasn't that important to him.

It gives me a sense of satisfaction that someone read my post and showed some appreciation for my post, or my attempt to propagate some thought into a certain topic in the forum. Because the number of signature-led posts is in large number in this forum, many posts go unattended by merit sources even those genuinely handing over merits to every thread.

However I try to help newbies out on trading and in general how to handle bitcoin, which I am well versed in and getting merited there makes me say a mental "thank you".

Hence I do check back to see which post of mine got merited recently when I come back to the forum, and who was the merit sender.

Merit ruined my life.
Finally hit legendary [GONE WRONG]

prior to Theymos rolling it out it was chaos all over the forum, and it got to the point where the shitposting and account farming was driving me nuts.  Many of my posts from that time period were really angry because I felt helpless to do anything about it.
I think it's probably one of the implementations that the majority will actually agree made the forum ten fold better. There was a period of time where everything was getting a little bit out of hand. Now spam has reduced, we're actually starting to get reports from way back when, and ultimately cleaning up some of the mess left behind before merit. Obviously, there's still a lot of spam coming through on a daily basis, but nothing out of the ordinary for a forum this size. Whereas, before with the ICO craze in particular, it was crazy the amount of spam being pumped out.

if you've accumulated sMerits, please do your best to pass them on.  It keeps the merit system well oiled.
With the somewhat recent merit source increase I'm finding I'm banking my sMerit for when I've cycled a little bit too quick with my merit source allocation, whereas I couldn't do that before since it was all going all too quickly.

In the early days of the merit system, I'd be pretty stoked when I got merits, because it was the first metric on bitcointalk of post quality and I'd always wondered how the community viewed my posts.

Then after about a year, year and a half, I stopped caring so much--it might have been when I became a merit source, because then I started focusing more on trying to keep the system working smoothly. I can't stress how important I think it is, because prior to Theymos rolling it out it was chaos all over the forum, and it got to the point where the shitposting and account farming was driving me nuts.  Many of my posts from that time period were really angry because I felt helpless to do anything about it.

So anyway, members should feel proud if they've received a lot of merits--especially since those merits have a monetary value on the merit market.  They're not supposed to be sold, but they are anyway.  When somebody sends you merits, it's much more valuable than someone just hitting the like button like they would on a different forum.

To be honest I don't really know what answers you're expecting as the answers are going to be pretty obvious lol.
The answer I expect is very simple, namely an honest answer from the feelings that are felt. This is simple and easy and does not need to be complicated and difficult. Thank you very much for responding to this post.

Buddy, let me land you on the ground a little. Questions about merit are of interest to those who are only growing in rank. But what you write, what people answer on your topics, is not only answers to your supposedly interesting questions, but also the most common fulfillment of the quota for subscription companies.

Just watch that when you ask a very simple question, you get a lot of relatively similar answers. Do you seriously think that this all comes from the sincerity of people?

While you are growing in rank, you are full of enthusiasm, but after that, many no longer appreciate it so much. You can get merit for a simple joke while causing bewilderment among newcomers.
maybe you are right.
I did expect a sincere answer from feelings. and I would really appreciate it.

but even if someone answers insincerely then I will still appreciate it. because I can't measure someone's sincerity. then don't be afraid to write even though the answer will be the same. because I would still love to read it. because when you take the time to reply to this topic and answer my questions that already makes me very happy.
people are free to choose to be honest or to lie. because behind a choice taken then there must be a reason behind it. and I value every one's personal reasons. and I want to keep positive thinking about each respondent.

I like your thoughts. well, the merit system is indeed very good and has a positive impact on this forum.

'Life's but a walking shadow'!
Some users would say it depends somewhat on the rank of the user, for example a newbie would prolly be overly excited to get a couple of merits here and there cause it helps them rank up (and tbh, every user wants to rank up, even if they claim otherwise), and a Legendary user would be happy to receive merits cause it shows someone likes/appreciates/think what they wrote is good/recognizes their efforts, etc, even if it does nothing for them in the grand scheme of things (as they have no other ranking up to do), except that it allows them apply for good campaigns that have a merit criteria (like x amount of merits in the last 120 days).

Overall the merit system is great for the forum, it combats spam and reduces it to a large extent, though it doesn't eradicate it which is not possible, but it has a really positive impact, and any user should feel great when they get some, except those who totally do not care about the merit system (whether sending or receiving).

And I'm sorry that when I created this topic, I didn't have the smerit that I could give to appreciate those who participated in responding to my topic. so I can only say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PARTICIPATING AND RESPONDING TO MY INTEREST.

You can get merit for a simple joke while causing bewilderment among newcomers.

oh so it turns out. there was a slight change in mood when receiving merits at different ranks. when it is legendary then it is not a big thing anymore.

If the main goal (as with a huge majority of users) is to rank up to be able to potentially get higher payrates on signature campaigns, then of course merits are going to be very important.

To be honest I don't really know what answers you're expecting as the answers are going to be pretty obvious lol.

Back then, +merits gave me a dopamine hit, the same effect (but a bit better) from receiving likes from Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. Now though? While I still really appreciate merits, it's really not much of a big deal anymore. Though I still feel that I'm somewhat contributing better if my posts get merits so I kinda use that as a gauge.

It's different when you're still a member like me, then receiving a merit is still a tremendously big impact because members have other goals and encouragement other than feeling appreciated for posting but also being given the feasibility to develop and being given the opportunity to move up to the next level, namely like me from a member I want to go up to full member. so when someone gives me then I feel like I've been given the opportunity to get closer to ranking up. and of course feel appreciated also for my writing. I feel like a child who studies hard and is given a gift by his father.and that makes the child even more active in learning

I actually thought at first that Merits were just like the like button on Facebook. Then through reading I found out that it is more than that. Say it is an award given to you when you actually contribute something of value to the forum. My first merit came on my second which was more like a questionnaire post. I never thought I would be merited on it, that's after my first post wasn't merited. When I saw merits on it which were 4 from different senior members I felt like someone that just won an academic award. And seriously that even affected my mood throughout the day and was where my love for the forum escalated. And also those first merits of thought me that this forum actually honours you with merit depending on your ability to learn and also contribute to others here.
Right now I am only think about adding more values to the forum. But I always feel overwhelmed when I see people more experience than me credit my card little. Seriously it's always a great feeling  Grin

Your experience about merit is almost similar to mine. which I also misunderstood at first. thought it could be given to anyone without limits and by anyone. like the like button on facebook. but it turns out I was wrong when I don't have Smerit and will send it to someone, it turns out that we are required to have at least 2 merits, which means we have 1 Smerit that can be sent.

and it's true I also feel what you feel. the feeling of being happy and feeling appreciated. truly extraordinary. so I decided to be diligent in giving my smerit to share this happiness in useful and worthy posts and to those in need. and it doesn't feel like my Smerit is now up. and it's nice to appreciate someone's writing by giving a smerit. and because I feel happy too when I receive it.

When I was a beginner when I didn't have merit I asked about the reason why you all give merit to someone? (Please State What Criteria or Reasons Willing to Give Your MERITS to Someone?) . At that time I didn't even know what it was like to give merit and I even tried to send merit to someone when I didn't have any merit at all. and of course it can't be done. and I also post a question about the criteria and reasons why someone sends merit to someone.
And I feel happy because so many people respond to my questions. and I also collect all the data from the responses or answers of everyone who has participated in the topic. and use it as my reference to improve my writing and quality. and it worked. I thank everyone who participated at that time.

but now when i have merit and i often give merit to someone i have a new question in my head. that is :

How do the people I have given merit feel? Do they have the same feelings as me like being happy and feeling valued. or each level has a different feeling.

I started to think of a possibility that I think maybe everyone's responses and feelings are different. and one indication is that every level from beginner to Legendary has different thoughts and feelings. So I decided to make the topic of this question back. and I hope that someone will respond and give an honest response starting from the feelings of the Newbie level, Jr Member, Member, Full Member, Sr Member, Hero Member, Legendary and even staff and moderators and merit sources who have merit advantages.
