I only use TOR to access TalkImg (and some other site) while I was not in my home network, and I mostly use my home network, so I barely use it. And specifically to TalkImg I never encounter any difficulties, whether when accessing the site or uploading the image. Sometimes the image links doesn't work, but I guess that happens too on other image hosting site occasionally, so I never think that problem was related to TOR. But tbh idk.

Because security system used by Talkimg isn't always triggered when you access with Tor Browser.

My hosting includes the Imunify360 service which is equivalent to Cloudflare.
But, since it is already integrated with the hosting service, I don't have many configuration options, just the basics.

I've answered "yes" to using TOR - at the insistence of @suchmoon a couple of years ago.  As soon as I clicked "yes", I thought I should probably clarify that I also use it for BPIP, ninjastic and the bitcointalk forum site.

On occasion, I will also check out the conversion site and the web.archive.org site, however, the archive.today website requires the "prove you're not a robot" check box (which never works properly) (both of those I mainly use via Firefox in the clear), but apart from that, just the four (talkimg, ninjastic BPIP and bitcointalk).

I'll also reference mempool.space or some of the broadcast your RAW transaction sites, but that's not on a daily basis.

I have not used Tor browser before to access "TalkImg", but what I used is "Brave" and it has always worked perfectly fine for me, but in regards to this thread, I will be heading to download "Tor" right away, so that I can give you feedback before the next 24hrs. However, there are certain things we need to note while uploading images on "TalkImg", as you are only allowed to upload images of size lesser than 2.5 MB, if you try to upload an upload above the size of 2.5 MB, it will be declined, and I think most times that might be the challenge people could be complaining about, as the only solution is to resize it, just as shown below.

But this 2.5MB limit is on purpose. Because, it doesn't matter if you upload larger images, they won't work on the forum.
This site was designed for Bitcointalk, so it follows the image standards that the forum has.

As a solution for these cases, I have the zip.talkimg.com service (in beta), with the aim of reducing the size of images.
Thanks for your response Boss, as I'm very much please to know that such tool like this exist here on this forum to help members upload images with size above 2.5MB. However, this is literally my first time hearing of this new version, and I was able to give it a try and I must confess, satisfied with how it works. Hence, I think this new version need more exposure as the previous, as not everybody knows about this it's "beta" version which enables uploading of images with size larger than 2.5MB.

Some users have complained about some instability when using TalkImg, because they use Tor.
The site works correctly in any browser, just due to the server's protections against hacks, those who use Tor sometimes have some difficulties accessing the site.

I am not sure what image you are uploading that needs to done on tor.

I guess some people could be in strict areas of the world and want to remain hidden.

If you don't want your forum activity to be connected to your real life identity then using the image host dedicated to this very forum without TOR would make it very easy for any prying eyes to locate you and completely unmask you. So I don't think OP is doing anything unreasonable. Honestly, in many countries even pedestrian stuff like gambling or political speech can lead to jail. So it's not necessarily that he's doing something bad.

This type of security is crucial for individuals who highly prioritize their online privacy. So, when you mention using TOR to conceal your actual location or IP address, does this imply that it is also advisable to use it when accessing Bitcointalk? Because I'm under the impression that both TalkImg and the forum might be able to determine our location unless we take steps to mask it.

On the other hand, Contabo does not have great technical support to help me with the migration. It's not problematic, but it would involve more caution.
That's a good point. If you need technical support, you shouldn't use an (unmanaged) VPS. And managed servers are a lot more expensive.

Contabo's technical support is poor and cannot always be relied upon.
But it is a cheap server compared to other servers like Digital Ocean which are more expensive, but have good technical support (price determines quality).

Contabo uses an older CPU that has a slower single-core speed but still provides a large number of cores and high-end DDR4 RAM with the best cooling and great data protection, not to mention 2-5Gbit DDOS protection is included for free to protect the VPS from being damaged (depending on the package chosen).

Do you know their service?
Do they not set limits, other than those mentioned prominently in the plans? Some create small print with some conditions.
Do you know if they really provide 32TB of traffic?

But, I think the difference is in the cost of technical support. They don't offer any support, and what I've been looking into is support. Hence the price differences.  Undecided

I use Tor, but I choose to use it so I won't complain Smiley if it happens that I cannot do something with Tor then I use other browser. It's not that big security issue especially with Talking.
If it wasn't such a big security issue why would you use the Tor Browser, since you end up using a regular browser to access and upload photos on Talkimg?

I am not a Tor Browser user and have always used the Regular Browser to upload photos.
I even have an account to manage the photos that I have uploaded before.

When trying to use the Tor Browser it looks normal as usual.

Even with a stable Internet connection, when using Tor to access bitcointalk, it's so slow for me. I don't know why, but I face this every day. Also, whenever I minimize my Tor browser to do other work, it takes forever to reload a page afterwards. The only solution is to make a new identity and relogin again. Sometimes Tor won't even connect, even with a proper bridge and other configurations.

So my personal opinion is that it may create additional problems if you upgrade Talking. Like accessing the website, uploading, logging in, etc. Not everyone faces the problem I faced. Maybe it's my side problem or my internet is slow. I don't know. My other internet-related things work fine, however.

Accessing bitcointalk using Tor is hard enough for me. I think I'll avoid using Tor for Talkimg. It's not that I use talkimg. I don't even remember when I last used it. But I really need it I would rather use a VPN. So I'm voting "No".

I think that so far, the service has fulfilled its purpose, despite this inconvenience for some users. Therefore, I would like to understand how many users use Tor, so I can make a decision on the matter.

I therefore appeal for your consideration on this topic, and whether it is really relevant at this time to make this upgrade or follow the plan in order to ensure longevity.

Appreciate your feedback.

First of all, in the poll, I didn't understand what you mean by the option "Yes and Others."

Anyway, I agree that TalkImg is definitely fulfilling its purpose at the moment, and personally, I'm quite satisfied with the service.

I would say, please follow the plan, "this is to ensure longevity" Smiley ... I mean if this upgrade is going to cost triple, and that too monthly, and will be beneficial for only four users (four YES votes at the moment Cheesy), then please hold off on this upgrade.

Secondly, regarding Tor, I have never used it to access TalkImg, so I'm not sure about the issues some users are facing. However, I have read many times that users face issues, even with Bitcointalk's captcha when accessing the forum via Tor. So, the issue may not be unique to TalkImg.

Also, the poll currently shows that 75% of users are not using Tor. Let's give this poll some time to gather better results, and then you will be able to decide. For example, if the votes are 50/50, then an upgrade is definitely needed. If "No" stays below 25%, you can hold off on the upgrade.

Since you asked: I use Tor. The most annoying thing on TalkImg is that direct links to an image don't work.
Given my experience with cheaper servers, I doubt trippling server costs is necessary. Ninjastic.space for instance works fine on Tor, and I think it still runs on this package. My guess is TalkImg is much less demanding in resources, since it doesn't have to search through huge databases.

For contractual reasons I still cannot change hosting companies. Maybe in a few months I will be able to evaluate this.

This service seems acceptable, even so, the current cost, compared to what this company offers, will be at least double (depending on the option chosen). On the other hand, Contabo does not have great technical support to help me with the migration. It's not problematic, but it would involve more caution.

I want to ensure you that the talkimg.com site runs well when I use it and there are no problems when I upload images in several browsers that I use such as Mozilla, Kiwi and Tor.

There was a failure, but it wasn't bad because after I reloaded the browser, the site returned to running normally.
I want to say that this talkimg hosting is an amazing project even though there are other image hosting sites, but I am comfortable using talkimg.com

When you stay off a website for a long time you will be forced to refresh it before using, it happens everytime not only on talkimg

If I'm not wrong in my self-assessment, my level of knowledge about having to refresh a website if you want to use it is no longer at that level because I often advise my younger brother about that as the most basic lesson I taught him. beginner status in the internet field.

By the way, I want to say thank you for warning me about this even though my goal was just to convey to the OP that the talkimg.com site runs well without any problems when I use it in several browsers.

I have never encountered any significant problem whilst uploading images to TalkImg.com through Tor. Only small annoyances like not uploading fully, which was easily fixed by doing a simple Tor Circuit change that is only two clicks.

I can say that I have a similar experience, whether it's Tor or VPN, it all depends on what our own internet traffic is redirected through, but it's nothing that can't be solved by changing the circuit, as you say.

There is no doubt that with Tor we can experience problems with slow page loading or the occasional request to solve a captcha, but I think that many people do not understand how Tor works and that they have to adapt if they want such a dose of privacy.

Are there any reasons that encourage to use TalkImg with a Tor browser? Are users concerned about a threat to their privacy possibly posed by this website? Why not use any other browser like chrome or firefox on TalkImg?
~snip~

I don't think the question here is that the OP is encouraging someone to do anything, but in my opinion the point is that if you already use Tor as your main browser, then you will use TalkImg with that browser - and if you have problems using it, that means you would have to use another browser at the same time.

I don’t think should increase server maintenance costs for the sake of one and a half John. If they want, they can access TalkImg without Tor, that’s right.

Already now the advantage in voting is 25% / 75% of those using and not using Tor to access the  TalkImg. It seems that everything is obvious here and it is unlikely that the results will change much.

Not everyone trusts their IP addresses with a third-party website like this. Op claimed he doesn't save logs, but how can we be sure if the project is closed-source? It is better to be safe than sorry.
In fact, the only record that exists is the IP, for image moderation reasons. But, nothing that a VPN can't solve.
But, maybe I can still change this type of moderation.
Yeah, I agree that this type of moderation needs to be modified for the sake of privacy, but it wouldn't matter if you made improvements to the Tor site since individuals that value privacy highly won't use the cleanet.
