I can not give much meaning to the Merit system. Many people use it for multi accounts. I see some very good messages but people do not give any credit for them. This system was not very good for those who use the forum in good faith.
youre right, there are a lots of good quality post but no one is giving merit to them  and yet those one liner post or bump post made  by some members are recieving merit points.

Merit has made the forum more organized and also much better. Perhaps many people are affected after the enactment of this system, now the spammers are getting reduced. The specified rankings are much tighter and there are also special specs like having to get some merit points in order to get an account level increase. I see this as an advancement because then we can see some threads already have quality and can contribute to the development of Bitcoin and generally for the development of cryptocurrencies.

I don't see merit as an advancement but a barrier. Just like mining bitcoin, useful & interesting information is becoming harder and harder to find.
Considering ordinary members like me, I've only known about crypto and this forum recently. Maybe I am yet to contribute to the development of bitcoin like you said but I do contribute to the development of this forum, right?
Do you know about Communism government? If something can not be controled, they ban it. This merit system somewhat sounds like them.

I found a topic about merit & ranking here. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350
Not every one is an expert so I think this merit thing is unfair.
Merits are a way to limit spam on the forum to improve the quality of each post by the members. Merit is required for you to be able to increase the rankings on the forum beyond the action point. This is a great way to manage the bitcointalk forums.

It was an intelligent solution to save the credibility reputation of the bitcoin forum from spammers and greed users. Every user need merit points to rank above the junior rank and use plus advantages. A good way to clean it up.

Merits is needed to make your account to ranked up, in other words if you dont have enough merits you will be stuck in junior member rank forever.Thats how important the merit is.

For each reached ranks you will get merits.
For example:
1. JR.MEMBER - No merits
2. Member - 10 Merits
3. Full Member-100 merits and 3 sendable merits
etc...

Before, you only need a certain number of activities to rank up. Now, you also need merits that will be given to you buy the members of this forum. There is also a certain amount of merit required in every rank you want to reach except Jr.Member.

Merit is soon implemented in the forum. As a basic principle, to gain merit, you must have quality posts so that those who read it remain impressed and give you a merit. These cumulative merits help you promote in rank. From newbie to junior member you do not need merit for promotion, but from junior member up, promotion is based on merit. From my point of view it's a stupid rule. You can have the best posts, if someone does not want to give you, you do not give it. There will be merit among friends to help each other. Merit is a new rule implemented in this forum. Merit is needed for you to be promoted. If you are a newbie you can be promoted to Junior Member even without merits but if from jr. member to Member, you must earn 10 merits and from member to Full member you need 100 merits in all to be promoted so on and so fort.
